Chapter 13: Energy Of The Seal
The decision was indeed a difficult one for the dragon snake to make. Even with the long silence that had settled after Laz's declaration, neither of their minds seemed at rest.
For the Dragon, it considered certain factors if it had allowed a human to command it before. An intentional attack earlier, which wasn't even geared for danger, had classified this human as a weak intruder, or is he more than that?
It didn't want to be sure to crown Laz an intruder, since he was looking for a way home. Maybe he is lost or something.
Except for these doubtful considerations, there was sense in other reasons the human made. It wants freedom, and it needs protection to avoid entering even another domain of captivity. But will the human whom it perceived as weak be able to give it that protection?
Now that it thought about it, was it going to give in easily? Or, should it just accept the human in its front, maybe, once he becomes the master, it will find out some hidden qualities and potential.
It sipped the tongue in the air, and flickered it twice before pulling them back in.
Meanwhile, Laz, who has declared his exit, simply stood there, patiently waiting for a response from the monster. He had nowhere to go, and never actually planned to leave on his own, but that was the only choice he could come up with since he didn't know the way out.
As if after waiting for centuries, the dragon snake slowly dipped its head.
"I accept your conditions."
If you were a living thing inside of Laz, you would have seen how much elated he became after hearing those words. He didn't bother to show it off on his face; he intended to maintain a certain sense of confidence that could dissuade the monster.
"From this day onward, I am yours to command," the dragon snake's voice reverberated once again.
Laz blinked, still unsure if his ears had just tricked him. And once he certified it was reality, his worry tinged in.
How was he going to absorb the energy now to save the monster?
Earlier, he made a statement and wished the creature had a solution to that. When he said, "I am going to save you, But I don't know how", his purpose was to trigger the monster for help.
"Can we begin?" The monster's voice caught him off guard, but he still maintained a confident stand.
"Sure."
The dragon snake shifted, loosening as it traveled backward and forth, stretching itself free from its coil.
"To release me, you must absorb the surrounding energy of the seal."
Laz heard this and tilted his head. 'You've mentioned that before. You might want to elaborate.'
It seemed the creature was yet to be done with its directives as it slithered its body and returned it to the forefront of the barrier.
"Once you are able to absorb the energy, we shall form a bond that binds our relationship..."
The rest of its words trailed off in Laz's mind as he didn't pay attention to them.
'That was very important, get on with the directives already.'
"All binding energy draws from nothing, and all drawing energy leaves a residue. These residues are what is reclaimed by the worthy."
"It's that a riddle I'm meant to solve, just to absorb the energy?" Laz asked.
"It might be. But this is the conceptual process of energy absorption," the dragon snake said. "For you to have been able to pass through the seal classifies your eligibility. Now, jam your palms together."
Laz did as he was told. He enclosed and rubbed his palm, bringing them to a halt before raising them to his face in an Amen format, and waited for the next instruction from the creature.
His eyes caught a glance at the mark on his right wrist, and he wondered if it was going to play a role as well.
"Close your eyes," the dragon continued. "Focus your concentration on the pushing energy that forms as a result of your inner body's air articulation."
At this instruction, Laz flickered his eyes open and watched the dragon in a doubtful manner. Noticing a look of disappointment from the creature's stare, he hesitated, and then obeyed.
After a while of assuming the position, Laz's breath seemed to seize. He started hearing some whirling sound within him, as if some kind of wind was stirring in motion. Thoughts wanted to creep in, but he held his mind against them, and awfully concentrated.
"Control that articulation!" The dragon's voice echoed in his mind. "Direct it with your imagination."
Laz tried. A pang of pain fell into his head, as if he had been hit in certain areas by tiny needles.
But he endured.
Soon, he was able to focus the flow of the inward air to an upward direction.
One thing he didn't notice yet was the effect on his physical being.
The mark on his wrist tingled. At first, when the air stirred intensely, threads of blue shimmer began to rise from the mark. But now that he has controlled this air, it blends its glow, shining brighter than usual.
Then, from this blue glowing energy, faint shimmers began to dance across his skin. Within seconds, it expanded, wrapping around him like a second skin. Sparks arced across his shoulders, radiant blue threads traced the lines of his muscles, lighting his veins from within.
Laz inhaled.
And exhaled.
Instinctively, his eyes flickered open, now glowing with the same blue energy, and his palm separated, hanging face-opened in the air.
Streaks of energy from his surroundings began to travel towards his open palm, invisible to the eyes of the dragon but visible to Laz. Although the dragon knew what was happening.
Before him, the barrier now shone with the same energy, blue sparks lighting across it.
Having gathered much energy from the surrounding air, Laz walked closer to the barrier, raised his hands and directed them towards it.
From the other end, the prisoner rolled its slithering body, flinging its neck backwards so that its short limbs could meet with the shimmering barrier. It stretched its hands forward and paired them with those of Laz, resting on the barrier.
The sparks flickered, trembled, then shattered like glass struck by sound. An expanded ball of light formed and covered Laz, with his hands still merged with those of the dragon. Pieces of light burst into the air and dissolved directly into that ball of light.
There was a brief stillness.
Slowly, the ball of light also began to dissolve, and once it was done, Laz reluctantly crumbled onto the cold ground, and the glowing energies disappeared.
The dragon snake roared in joy, its vast coils spiraling around the domain, spinning and twisting, hurling its long body like a thunderous ribbon.
After several ecstatic moments, the dragon returned to Laz, coiling calmly beside him on the ground, and began to move its body with its head lowered.
"Hey, I'm still alive," Laz muttered weakly, giving in to the idea of the creature.
Successfully, it was able to raise Laz to his feet once again, after which it turned its gaze toward a jagged rock behind where it had once been sealed.
Its mouth opened slowly, and from the throat came a flickering spark that exploded into blue flame, bathing the rock.
CRACK—CRACK—KRRRRRHHH!
The rock split down the center, revealing an empty space behind it. From inside, a glowing substance erupted, sending a wave of pressure outward. Laz's silver hair whipped backward, and though he stumbled slightly, he held his ground.
Then, the dragon slithered forward and coiled gently over the broken rock. As it lifted itself again, something glinted in its center.
The glowing substance from earlier.
A sword.
Sleek and silver-blue. It pulsed faintly with the same blue energy from before. Its hilt was forged with the threads of scale wrapped around it, as though the scales from the creature had been melted and merged with the sword's steel.
The dragon gently lowered the sword into Laz's hands.
"My gift, for you."
Laz's hands trembled slightly as he held it.
"…I've never owned a sword before."
"Now you do," the dragon snake assured. "Use it and protect yourself from any trouble, or in the midst of chaos."
Laz took some steps backward, gaining sudden confidence. He flicked the sword diagonally to unleash arc streams of blue energies which shot outwards, almost catching the creature, which was fast enough to slither out of the danger.
"Was that intentional?"
"No, I was just testing the material," Laz replied, bringing the sword down to his side.
An evil thought, however, replaced his physical answer. 'What if the arcs interlocked with the creature and laid its body lifeless?'
Shaking his head, he let the thought off, and watched as the sword disappeared into nothingness.
"You can easily summon it if need be," the dragon soothed, he, whose mood immediately changed after seeing the sword vanish. "And, I am also not too far from your call, Master."
Laz tightened his lips, spreading his chin into a forceful smile.
Then, without another word, the dragon turned, coiling toward the open void, and slithered into the blue light.
Laz watched as it vanished, and realized. That must be the gate the creature talked about.
"Amazing."
He tried to summon the blade again in his hand, and once it worked, he muttered. "I won't ever forget what happened in here."
Staring into the void, unsure of where it would take him, he braced himself and walked forward into its glowing energy.
And disappeared.
