Digimon: The Child of Miracles

Chapter 65: -Chapter 64-

...

Filmon let out a grunt of exertion as he fell to his knees in the face of MadLeomon's brutal strength; it was not only the venom of the berserker lion's claws but also his immense strength that was putting the hedgehog in a great predicament.

Refusing to back down, Filmon covered himself in electricity, giving him a brief boost, which he used to deflect MadLeomon's claw to the side and leap backwards, landing right next to BlackGarurumon. The ferocious lion sank his claws deep into the ground, causing a large portion to turn a putrid purple and green color; it was almost like watching an acid destroy every fiber of life that was in the ground.

Filmon swallowed hard as he eyed his own claws warily. 'If that had hit me, I would have died instantly.'

Despite his thoughts, the large hedgehog shook off his fear and smiled confidently as the jet wolf rose to its full height at his side along with a small pink furball just above said wolf.

"Because I'm always the one who gets the surprise attack..." BlackGarurumon muttered with a low growl and eyes burning with anger. "You! Crazy asshole! Who the fuck are you, and how the fuck did you get in here!"

MadLeomon, on the other hand, simply seemed to stagger on himself as his arms moved in odd directions, crawling along the ground and snarling into nothingness; suddenly, his whole body stopped before he looked up at BlackGarurumon and growled menacingly. His muscles seemed to bulge in on themselves, crunching his small exposed bones and forming cracks in them.

'Nasty' Filmon thought.

Sensing that he wasn't going to get a response, BlackGarurumon glanced sideways at the small pink ball that had moved to his shoulder before speaking softly. "Piximon, how are you feeling?"

"I'm... pi, not well, pi" Piximon seemed to be quite exhausted but had recovered enough to stand and float without much trouble. "I need some time to recover, pi, but I should be able to support you on this, Pi. I doubt I can throw a definite punch at you, though, pi, I'm not a good fighter, pi."

"Don't worry about it" Filmon smiled terrifyingly as he took a low stance and extended his reddish claws that flashed with electricity. BlackGarurumon simply stood his ground as blue fire began to erupt from the sides of his snout.

The entire field seemed to fall silent before MadLeomon's crazed scream broke it and kicked off the fight.

A purple blob came face to face with a silver one.

Filmon, taking advantage of his greater speed and smaller size, quickly entered MadLeomon's range by slashing from the bottom up with one of his claws while making several thrusts with the other. Sensing danger, MadLeomon turned slightly to the side, dodging most of the thrusts and parrying Filmon's slash. The reddish claws met his purple counterpart again for a brief second before a fight of quick, violent slashes was unleashed, which were constantly blocked by his opponent.

After a few seconds of the fierce encounter, MadLeomon was forced to retreat due to the overwhelming speed of Filmon's movements, almost making him look like a small yellow-red storm.

One misstep was all it took for Filmon to lunge like a bloodthirsty shark toward the lion's neck. But that eagerness to end the encounter as quickly as possible was exactly what MadLeomon took advantage of.

Moving his body faster than Filmon thought he was capable of, the lion grabbed Hedgehog by his forearm, stopping his advance in its tracks. Grinning madly, the lion headbutted Hedgehog hard as he stabbed him with the claw of his other arm.

MadLeomon's smile disappeared to be replaced by a confused expression as Filmon's body dissipated, as if it had never been there.

MadLeomon grunted in confusion as he punched the air where Filmon had been, but before he could understand what was happening, a powerful sound wave caused him to take a step back and cover his ears momentarily.

"Wolf Cry!!"

BlackGarurumon charged at the lion in an attempt to take advantage of the latter's daze. But to the wolf's surprise, the lion suddenly dodged his lunge by moving to the side, leaving BlackGarurumon vulnerable.

The lion seemed to chuckle between growls as it brought both hands together to form a hammer and smash it into BlackGarurumon's back.

However...

Bong!

A small pink force field stopped the lion's strike, allowing the wolf to move away quickly and assess its opponent more cautiously. Piximon, who was on the wolf's back, let out a sigh as it dropped the force field.

"He's smarter than I thought" BlackGarurumon growled as he began to walk in circles around the MadLeomon, who was keeping track of his opponent.

"He's a Berserker, pi, he couldn't do many things, but fighting to the death and beyond is his specialty, pi. Chances are that even if you had hit him, he would have just shrugged his shoulders and hit you anyway, pi. Don't be fooled; he may be an idiot, but his instincts far outweigh all of us, pi."

BlackGarurumon remained silent.

Even when Filmon appeared behind MadLeomon and slashed one of his arms with his claws before dissipating again.

"But he's confused to think he's the cat and we're the mouse, pi."

I took a light sip of my tea, allowing myself to savor it and smell it deeply for a brief moment.

I let out a satisfied sigh before looking up to find myself face to face with a small white cat, which was looking at me with hostility.

"I know you have the Card, don't make this a Data spill if you know what's good for you" The cat said coldly as the claws on her hands extended to be as big as her forearms.

I didn't respond.

Instead, I simply rubbed my mustache thoughtfully as I looked calmly at the Chosen Child of Light's companion. I couldn't understand how one of the Digimon destined to save this World found himself working for the darkness; if this was one of Vamdemon's plans, I had to admit that he had far surpassed himself.

He had explored and visited every nook and cranny of what was left of the old world, sometimes observing, sometimes guiding, or provoking small coincidences, all in order to resist the coming years until the time of the Chosen Children came.

The wait had been costly; the few remnants of the Sacred Forces perished at the hands of the insurgent darkness. It was painful to know that the Digimon I personally trained, that I cared for like my own children, were destroyed and slaughtered like pigs. I'd be lying if I said there weren't moments where my faith began to waver, where I wondered why or what for to go through with this.

And then I remembered that this was the punishment I imposed on myself.

But finally, after centuries, new hope for the World had arrived.

And now all that hope was at stake.

"Here you go" I said softly as I pulled the letter out from under my sleeve and tossed it at Tailmon's feet.

The cat looked genuinely surprised for a moment before taking the letter and looking at it closely. After a few minutes of silence, the cat nodded to himself and turned to leave.

"May the Light guide your path."

Tailmon paused for a moment to look at me with narrowed eyes before turning again and disappearing from my sight as she walked through the door.

I stared at the place for a moment as I pondered to myself.

'There really is no worse torture than hope'

...

A/N: Finally... I'm free from college.

I'll try to post another chapter tomorrow, and another one during the week to make up for the... two? Three? Weekends that I couldn't post anything.
