Shinkai Island is famous for its seaside scenery and diving activities.

But since the treasures in the underwater ruins have attracted many treasure hunters, the Tourism Department added treasure-hunting games and similar events to the itinerary.

"Mr. Hayashi, would you like to join the kids in the treasure hunt? I promise it will be fun."

After settling everyone in, Iwanaga Shouji looked back at Hayashi Yoshiki.

"Let's see later."

Yoshiki didn't decline directly—he simply smiled.

"It's a rare trip to the beach. I want to relax first."

"Ah, that's true!"

He hadn't been rejected directly.

Shouji energetically arranged for a car to take Hayashi Yoshiki and two girls to go diving. Conan wanted to follow, but as soon as he took a step, Kojima Genta and the others stopped him.

"No!"

"We're the Junior Detective League. Of course, we all have to work together to hunt for treasure!"

"That's right, Conan! Don't even think about sneaking away!"

Conan, still reluctant, turned to Ran for help.

"Ran-nee-chan, I want to go diving too!"

She bent down slightly and smiled gently.

"But everyone wants to go treasure hunting. Without you, Genta and the others won't have fun... So, Conan, why not wait until after the treasure hunt to go diving?"

After that, Conan had no choice but to give up.

Sonoko secretly laughed and gave a "Yeah" gesture to Hayashi Yoshiki—one less burden.

As for Dr. Agasa and Kogoro Mouri, one said he wanted to rest, while the other went off in search of a pretty hostess to have a drink.

"Have you ever been diving before, Yoshiki?"

"Yes."

"You really seem like someone who's done everything... just like with skydiving last time."

"That's because I'm very free," Yoshiki smiled.

He had, in fact, tried diving before traveling through time, and found it more enjoyable than skydiving.

Soon, Iwanaga Shouji sent the trio to a snorkeling shop called Blue Hole, where they were greeted by a dark-skinned woman named Yamaguchi Kimiko.

"I'll be your diving instructor. Would you three please choose your suits from these?"

Just then, three muscular men with equally tanned skin walked out from the back of the shop, each carrying gas cylinders.

Yamaguchi Kimiko's face turned cold.

"You guys. Clean up after yourselves."

"Don't worry. We'll be back."

The lead man said jokingly, then exited.

Yoshiki instinctively memorized their faces. He smiled:

"Treasure hunters?"

"Yes. They're all over the island these days."

"Will we be diving with them?" Sonoko asked nervously.

"No, no. Don't worry. They only came to borrow the compressor," Kimiko reassured.

The air tanks used for diving are filled with compressed air, which requires a professional compressor.

"Recently, people like them keep borrowing our compressor. It's becoming a hassle," said the shop owner, Mabuchi Chinatsu.

"Seems like the silver cutlery found recently was quite valuable."

"Yes. Rumor has it that Anne, the escaped pirate, hid treasure on this island."

"Anne?"

"Yes."

Chinatsu pointed to a poster on the wall, showing two pirate women.

"Around the year 1730, when the underwater palace near Shinkai Island was still above water, a scimitar called Cartras and a flintlock were found there. Judging by the initials on them, they likely belonged to Anne Bonny and Mary Read, two infamous female pirates of that era."

They were rare examples of female pirates in history.

Yoshiki remembered reading that Anne Bonny and Mary Read were captured by the British and sentenced to hang. But both escaped execution because they were pregnant. Mary Read died of fever in prison, but Anne Bonny escaped and reportedly continued pirating across the Pacific.

And Kamishima Island—was in the Pacific.

After a safety briefing, the group drove to the beach and boarded a yacht to reach the snorkeling spot.

"Be careful not to swim off on your own," Yoshiki warned as they geared up.

"We're not children!"

"That's what I mean."

"But you're both underage," he smiled.

Ran smiled too, eyes narrowing.

She was used to caring for others—both big and small kids at home—but she actually liked being looked after like a younger sister.

She was only 16, after all... Sometimes she wanted to act spoiled, but she was too shy to try.

Then instructor Kimiko led them into the water.

In the heat of midsummer, the first sensation was still cold. But that cold quickly gave way to wonder.

The sea became the sky, and schools of fish danced all around—truly breathtaking.

Kimiko led them toward the underwater palace.

More than 20 meters down, they saw a structure too perfect to be natural—like a flat-topped pyramid.

But before they could approach, a shark suddenly blocked their way.

Yoshiki quickly extended an arm to stop Ran and Sonoko.

The girls panicked, but the shark seemed uninterested and darted downward, chasing the scent of blood in the water.

Elsewhere...

The same three treasure hunters were being attacked by multiple sharks.

One man was bitten badly at the waist, blood billowing out as he lost consciousness. His companions panicked but managed to pull him up with propellers.

Kimiko urgently motioned for Yoshiki's group to surface.

They emerged from the water to a shocked Mabuchi Chinatsu:

"You're back so soon?"

"A shark attack!"

"What!?"

Shark attacks were rare. But Chinatsu immediately took it seriously.

Yoshiki and the others got on board. She helped retrieve the wounded divers and sped to the port, calling emergency services.

The wounded man was taken to the island hospital.

"Damn... it's been years since anything like this happened here," muttered a bald elder from the island authority.

Yoshiki handed two bottles of iced drinks to Ran and Sonoko, pressing them to their cheeks.

"Wah!? Brother Yoshiki!?"

"You both look so pale. Are you okay? No trauma, I hope?"

"I was a little scared..." Ran admitted softly.

"Yeah... I didn't expect to actually see someone get bitten by a shark."

"Don't worry too much. I think it was premeditated."

Everyone froze.

"Premeditated... murder?" Kimiko whispered.

"I checked before getting drinks," Yoshiki continued, watching the anxious treasure hunters near the OR door.

"The man who was bitten had a bag of fish blood in his diving suit. Under deep pressure—30, maybe 40 meters—the seal would easily burst. Sharks can detect diluted blood from miles away. That's why only he was attacked."

"...So it was murder," Chinatsu murmured.

Then the red light turned off. The doctor stepped out, grim.

"We're sorry. We did all we could... but he lost too much blood."

The other treasure hunters looked devastated.

But Yoshiki had other priorities.

"Ms. Mabuchi, could we return to the store? This dry diving suit is very uncomfortable."

"Ah, of course!"

She quickly took them back.

There were two shower rooms. Yoshiki waited for the girls to finish before heading in.

Under the hot shower, he wondered idly:

"If I wrote 'killed by the largest shark in the Pacific' in the Death Note... would that count as a third party causing the death? Are sharks 'third parties'?

He had once tried writing dead animals' names, but nothing ever happened—maybe animals didn't recognize the names given to them by humans.

Outside, Ran and Sonoko were chatting with Kimiko and Chinatsu.

They avoided shark talk, so Kimiko recommended beaches and restaurants instead.

"But I didn't bring a swimsuit," Ran said.

"Let's go buy one! There were tons of shops nearby."

"Okay!"

Then Sonoko glanced toward the locker room.

"Isn't Yoshiki taking a bit long?"

"Maybe he doesn't have a towel?" Ran guessed.

She picked up a towel and knocked on the door.

"Yoshiki? Do you need a towel?"

No answer.

Thinking he might not have heard, she opened the door... just as Yoshiki stepped out of the shower.

"Oops?"

Wearing only a towel around his shoulders, he smoothed back his wet hair.

"Thank you, Ran. I was just looking for a towel to dry my hair."

Ran froze, blushing furiously.

She tried to act natural, handing him the towel—but…

Yoshiki was only in his underwear.

0.3 seconds. That's how long Ran lasted before not looking there.

Yoshiki seemed totally unfazed.

Ran turned and quickly left the room, cheeks radiant red.

"Is Yoshiki okay?" Sonoko asked.

"Ah? Yeah... he seems better now."

"Wait—your face is bright red! Don't tell me... Yoshiki was naked in there!?"

"No!!"

"Really!?"

Sonoko was horrified.

She glanced at the closed door, stunned—before Ran hugged her violently.

"He wasn't naked!"

"Guah! I get it! Calm down, Ran!"

The women nearby—Kimiko and Chinatsu—smiled at their antics.

"You two are like Anne Bonny and Mary Read," said Kimiko.

"Eh?"

"They were close friends who fought together. But... legend says they also shared a lover."

"Shared a lover!?" they both shouted.

At that moment, the door opened.

Yoshiki emerged, drying his hair.

"Sorry to keep you waiting!"
