Chapter 8: CHAPTER 8:"Adam"
_Chapter Begins_
The wind blew past Elsa and the mysterious boy sitting atop the tall street lamp beside the dying flowers of the garden.
Elsa looked at him with an annoyed expression, then spoke—her voice calm and firm.
"Why are you here, Adam?"
The mysterious boy now finally had a name: Adam.
Adam lingered for a moment before placing his pale hand over his mouth and letting out a light chuckle.
Elsa clenched her fist tightly, trying not to show the anger and irritation she felt toward him.
Adam rested his hands on his knees again, continuing to speak with a wide smile painted across his pale face.
"Well, Elsa... I have a feeling you know why I'm here."
Elsa's calm demeanor finally cracked. She glared at Adam. However, he didn't seem to care about her threatening eyes—he just kept talking.
"I also know why you shouldn't be here, Elsa."
Elsa crossed her arms and lowered her gaze to the ground.
Adam's smile seemed to vanish, replaced by a frown.
"It doesn't matter that you're only here as an illusion," he said.
"You're still interfering with a mortal's story… and that is not allowed."
Elsa grunted and lingered for a moment before raising her head to face Adam again—
But something was wrong.
Adam, who had just been sitting atop a streetlamp at least twenty meters away, was now only inches from Elsa's face.
His two black eyes—like miniature black holes—stared directly into hers. Paired with those eyes was a wide, sinister smile. And then came a single sentence:
"Don't forget the decision you made… and don't forget what you are now."
As quickly as Adam had appeared, he vanished.
And not only did Adam disappear—but all the withering flowers, trees, and bushes suddenly returned to normal, as if nothing had ever happened to them in the first place.
There stood Elsa.
One would expect an expression of fear, doubt, or at least surprise after Adam's sudden appearance and disappearance.
But no.
She looked completely indifferent.
Totally blank.
Even a little tired.
She was about to sit back down on the white marble of the courtyard and the scorched marble of the church… but then she heard fast, pounding footsteps coming from inside the church.
Before she could even turn around, a boy with black hair and torn-up clothes burst through the giant wooden doors of the church.
Which, frankly, was impressive—those doors were extremely heavy. For someone to just break through them like that could mean only two things:
Either they were incredibly strong and flexing their power…
Or they were weak, and adrenaline had just given them a temporary surge in strength.
Elsa knew the boy, so she knew the second option was most likely correct.
Without asking any questions, Elsa immediately began running after William.
As they sprinted toward the park they had slept in the night before, Elsa took a brief moment to glance behind her.
What she saw was chilling.
More than twenty figures, all dressed in black robes and black masks that hid their identities, were charging after them.
And it was clear—they were chasing both her and William.
But more specifically... William.
