Destined to Be Yours

Chapter 14: My father... He was a Criminal

The tension in the room hung heavy, thick and undeniable. Saanvi's gaze remained fixed on Adhitya, her emotions swirling in a sea of confusion and hurt.

The words he had just revealed hit her like a tidal wave, leaving her both shaken and silent.

Adhitya sat on the edge of the bed, his hands clenched together, trying to find the right words, knowing that they couldn't erase the hurt he had caused, but hoping to explain, to make her understand.

His voice was calm, though filled with a deep sincerity.

"Saanvi," he began, his voice steady, "I did it for my sister. I know you may never fully understand, but everything I did... it was for her safety.

My father... he was a criminal, Saanvi. And how could I expect anyone to marry a criminal's daughter? The stigma, the reputation—people would have looked at her and seen nothing but her father's sins."

He paused, his eyes meeting hers, searching for the empathy that had always been there.

"I couldn't let her go through that. So, I made your brother an offer. I made sure he'd marry her... because I knew she'd be safe with him. Shourya is a protector. He sacrificed his own happiness to ensure my sister would be secure, loved, and protected.

The man who sacrificed his whole life for his sister's happiness will definitely protect my sister. And I... I did that because I wanted to make sure that no harm would ever come to her."

Saanvi's heart ached as she listened to him, the raw emotion in his voice was undeniable. Adhitya wasn't just the man she had married; he was a man who had his own burdens, his own sacrifices. The quiet strength, the love for his sister, it all made sense now.

He looked at her then, his voice softening, "I'm sorry, Saanvi. I never wanted to hurt you. I know I kept this from you, but everything I did, I did with the intention of protecting those I love. Please... understand."

Saanvi blinked, her thoughts slowly falling into place. His actions, the secrecy, the strain—it had all been because of love. It wasn't the way she imagined things, but love was never simple, was it? Slowly, she took a step closer to him, her heart no longer burdened with resentment but filled with understanding.

"I do," she said quietly, her voice tender, "I understand now, Adhitya. I can see how much you care. You did what youthought was best, and you weren't wrong. I see the love you have for your sister... and I see how much you care for me too."
