Chapter 16: Emily's Pheonix history
"Adam! Wake up! We're gonna be late for school!" Emily gently tapped his shoulder. Adam opened his eyes to see Emily's face close to his. As she leaned in for a kiss, Adam instantly reciprocated with a short kiss as he got up.
"Are we already late?" Adam asked, trying to gauge how much time they had to get ready.
"We have 15 minutes to leave the house," Emily noted as she put on her clothes.
Adam instantly duplicated himself as he slowly walked to the bathroom. His duplicates helped pack, made food, and prepared their breakfast. Adam washed himself, still half-asleep, and quickly got out of the shower. As he put on his clothes, he could see through his duplicates' eyes that Emily was already eating downstairs. Adam looked at his wrinkled shirt and used magic to straighten it out before wearing it.
Adam floated down the staircase. "Your lover has arrived," Adam jokingly said as he floated all the way to his seat. Emily laughed at the absurdity of Adam's antics.
"We're still early, you know," Adam said with a playfully annoyed expression.
"I want to walk together instead of teleporting there," Emily stated.
"Wow, you're trying to be more human than I am," Adam joked.
"I do have experience of being human longer than you," Emily retorted.
"Okay, fine, walking it is then. Don't ask me to teleport halfway through if we're late," Adam challenged.
Adam was still thinking about what happened the day before, but he didn't want to bring it up. He felt that lightening the mood would brighten Emily's day.
"I know, I know. I'll just fly us there if we're late," Emily said jokingly.
"Just a question, how do your clothes still stay on when you transform into your phoenix form? Shouldn't you be naked? Or your clothes burned?" Adam asked, curious but also playfully teasing Emily.
"Well, wouldn't you want to know?!" Emily shot back.
"I'm actually curious and wonder how it works?" Adam asked, as genuine curiosity kicked in.
"Alright, just like my dual blade, I have a personal dimension that can store my clothes inside. My flames don't burn anything depending on my will. That's why you don't get hurt while I was flying. If I wanted to, I could burn your ass a little while you're sitting on me," Emily explained, laughing at the thought.
"Then I'd just freeze you with magic and put out your fire," Adam retorted, laughing back at Emily.
"It wouldn't work. I have what you would call an eternal flame," Emily explained.
"Eternal flame? What is that?" Adam asked.
"Don't tell others, but I'm actually not from this world. There are other phoenixes that exist, and the lands once thrived with eternal flames," Emily explained.
"So there are species of your kind existing in your own world?" Adam asked, absorbing this new, profound knowledge.
"Yeah, we are creatures that have the eternal flames inside of us. So technically, without the eternal flames, we're just normal creatures," Emily spoke, revealing secrets of her own world.
"Wow, I feel like I shouldn't know this. The whole time the stories of phoenixes have been a lie. 'One of a kind creatures,' my ass," Adam said, now understanding more about Emily as a phoenix.
"Well, it's true that I'm actually one of a kind in this world," Emily said, trying to regain her reputation. "However, in that world, many of us existed with the eternal flames." Emily explained.
"Wait, so it's not just birds that have the eternal flames? Other creatures as well? Lions? Bears? Fishes?" Adam asked.
"Yeah, it depends, actually. Not every creature there is able to receive the eternal flames, but yeah, those that have it and live there become eternal with the powers," Emily explained.
"Eternal as in immortal?" Adam asked.
"Yeah, they don't need to rebirth. They just continue their life, not dying, and stay immortal," Emily stated.
"Wow, so your rebirth is actually just your powers getting weaker outside of your own world. How did you even get here in the first place?" Adam asked.
"It's by accident. I was accidentally summoned in the past. From what I remember, I've stayed longer in this world than in my own world. That's why I prefer to be human rather than being a phoenix," Emily stated. "We're late to even walk there now. Thanks for asking so many questions." Emily playfully disturbed Adam, pinching his face for being so curious.
"Wait, there's so much I want to know!" Adam said.
"Teleport us to school, we can continue next time, alright?" Emily said, looking at the time.
Adam instantly teleported them to the school rooftop.
"Here we are, the place where you begged me to live!" Adam joked about their past.
Emily pinched Adam's ear as she pulled him towards the rooftop door. "Yeah, and you didn't bother to live your life and got reincarnated instead. So much for listening to my words!" Emily continued pulling Adam's ear as she opened the door.
"Okay, enough joking around. Be normal!" As Emily let go of Adam's ear, she pulled him close to her. Emily leaned in for a kiss, and Adam kissed her passionately. As Adam and Emily slowly pulled back, smiling and looking into each other's eyes, Adam held Emily's hand as he looked down the staircase.
"You can go first, my phoenix," Adam gestured for Emily to walk down the staircase first.
"Thank you, my love," Emily said as she walked down the staircase, looking behind her and blowing a flying kiss to Adam. Adam stood there smiling at the top of the staircase, watching Emily walk down, before he walked down by himself, not wanting to let people know about their relationship at school.
