Chapter 9: Food for the Soul
A sports car drove through the night. Tobi sat in the passenger seat, letting the night lights pass by like blurs. He gazed out of the window with empty eyes. Alcohol was still running through his veins.
"Do you need some air?" Tatsu's voice reached his ears.
"...No. I'm fine."
The silence between them was comfortable. Just like how it always was. No pressure. No expectations. Just company.
"Tobi…"
"Hmm." He hummed lazily.
"I'm glad you're coming with ME." She emphasized herself. He raised an eyebrow.
"Who are you comparing yourself to?" Tobi asked. She paused for a moment. After heaving a sigh, she answered.
"Barbara."
"Why compare yourself to her? I haven't spoken with her since I left the school. Any further conversations would be her trying to capture me."
"So you know that she's Batgirl then."
"I figured it out the last few days. Especially with her religious attachment to not killing."
"Mnn. Did you know that you've been expelled from campus?"
"...Ok." He looked at her weirdly. She giggled softly.
"Don't look at me like that. I'm just saying."
Tobi shook his head. It was at this moment that he realized…Tatsu hadn't let go of his hand since she grabbed him earlier. Almost as if she was worried he would teleport away if she let go.
"......"
"Let's jam when we get back." She said.
"...Alright."
About half an hour later, they reached the better side of Gotham. The buildings were nicer. The streets were cleaner. That didn't mean there wouldn't be crime though. Crime was everywhere in this city.
Tatsu pulled into the garage of an unsuspecting home. As they got out of the car, the door slid shut. Neon lights flickered on and illuminated the room. The peculiar Japanese girl snatched his hand again and pulled him along.
'Is this what possessiveness is?'' He wondered.
Once they went up the stairs, they were on the main floor. She kicked off her armored boots and made him do the same. Now in his socks, he started peeling off layers. The overcoat left his shoulders first. Then came the suit. He unbuttoned the top of his white dress shirt and loosened the tie.
He finally sighed in relief after taking off the layers. He'd been wearing these clothes for several days. They didn't smell because he didn't sweat…but he definitely needed to get more clothes. Now that he had a bunch of money, he could start thinking about spending. Still, he wanted more.
Tobi didn't know when he would be satisfied with the amount of money he had. The life he lived up until now showed just how important it was. Not to mention that it was his father's dream to be rich. The young esper knew that he would keep stockpiling money until he couldn't anymore.
"Toby." A voice snapped in his ear. He jumped in surprise.
"...Yes?"
"Get out of your head. You think about things a little too much. It's self-damaging." She advised.
Tatsu had changed into new clothes. Now wearing a slim fitting t-shirt and hot pants, her curves were on full display. She was barefoot as well. A slight smile rose on his lips. It didn't reach his eyes. Fake.
"Well…I drink and smoke…so that's self-damaging too." He said.
He sat down on a sofa in the living room. It was comfy. The tension slowly left his body. Tatsu sat on the arm rest right beside him, forcing him to look past her cleavage if he wanted to make eye contact. It was calculated.
"I didn't know you had so many destructive hobbies."
"Well…I picked them up recently."
It was obvious what he meant. Before the vibe could grow stale, she lifted his chin. She was quite…forward.
"Forget about it for a moment. Let's jam."
"Alright. Let's do it. You got a keyboard?"
"I just bought one the other day. I knew you'd be staying here, after all."
Alright. She just admitted that this was calculated. No need to guess anymore. He could only shake his head at her words.
"I'll set it up."
About half an hour went by before they were ready. He plugged his phone into her sound system and put on an old 90s rap drum track. It was tradition for them at this point.
Tatsu started strumming on her guitar. Simple strums and strings. Vibey. Tobi supported her melody with his own. After a few minutes of testing…it clicked. His mind reached out to hers again, and they let loose. His fingers swam over the keyboard while she supported him. Then it reversed the other way.
It was a back and forth tug of war. They took turns exploring the key signature. Pushing to see how far they could take it. The vibe was there. Their heads bobbed in unison. Soulful, prideful, talented. Art.
With nobody to tell them when to stop, they went on for quite a while. Both of them had talent but only used it for moments like this. There were no plans to perform in front of a crowd. No plans to get famous in music. It was solely for these moments. Kicking back with someone you know, making art and having a good time.
Tobi's body relaxed more than it ever had in the last week. He definitely felt good. Music was a window to the soul. It was nourishment for the human psyche. On this point, the two agreed. It was what brought them together in the first place.
They instinctively knew when to stop. So much time had passed. Time flies when you have fun. Tobi could acknowledge that she was one of his favorite people to be around. He could admit it. These moments…it kept him from falling into the deep end.
He played his last key. She strummed her last chord. Then they looked at each other. Her gaze was hungry. His gaze was soft. Calm. Peaceful.
"Good session." He hummed while cracking his fingers.
Tatsu exhaled a steamy breath and closed her eyes. Once she gained control of herself, she finally spoke. Her voice was slightly raspy.
"Even better than last time. How do you do it?"
"At this point…I think it's a passive with my abilities."
"Mmmn. Well, it's perfect. Hopefully you can reserve such a skill for me."
"As you wish. I don't jam with anyone else anyways. By the way…can I borrow the shower?"
"You can live here. Don't need to ask."
"...Alright."
Tobi got up and headed toward the bathroom. He casually unbuttoned his shirt as he approached it. Tatsu eyed his back as the shirt came off. Then his figure disappeared around the corner.
The shower was nice and warm. Something that he rarely got to appreciate at home. Most of his showers were cold, since Denny and Gummy took up most of it. The water ran through his hair. He sighed as he grabbed the body wash.
Before he could put it on…he sensed a body entering the bathroom. Clothes dropped to the ground. Slender arms wrapped around his waist. Soft breasts rubbed against his skin. Tatsu kissed his back muscles. Her soft lips trailed his tattoos and stopped at his neck.
"Let me wash you." She finally whispered. He remained silent. It was tacit approval. Her hands immediately wandered.
She was gentle. Rubbing his body and massaging his head and shoulders. She even showed love to his rod. Once he was clean…he washed her too. His hands squeezed her breasts that barely spilled out of his hands. He felt her soft skin. The curve of her waist. The lovely shape of her ass.
Once they were both clean, she wrapped her arms around his neck. She had to get on her tip toes. Their lips met. Her tongue wasn't patient at all, trying to get inside as soon as possible. Tobi picked her up by the waist. Her legs wrapped around him.
The young esper casually turned off the shower and carried her toward the bedroom. A good time was ahead of them. They already knew how compatible they were just by the music. He laid her down on the bed…and gazed at her slender body. He couldn't help but taste it. Sighs of pleasure would resound through the house for the rest of the night.
…
…
…
At about 4am, Tobi hadn't fallen asleep yet. He didn't plan on it. He wasn't ready. This was the most relaxed he'd been in a while, but he was still scared.
Instead…he focused on the soft body lying on top of him. Holding her and caressing her skin. Her body felt great pressing against him. It would be hard for him once she put her clothes back on. He definitely preferred her naked now.
As an assassin, Tatsu could wake up at the tiniest thing. Her eyes slowly opened due to his caress. She glanced at the bags under his empty eyes and frowned.
"You haven't slept yet?" She asked quietly. He shook his head.
"No. I was too busy looking at you."
"Liar. With bags like that under your eyes, why aren't you fast asleep?"
"...I can't."
There was a moment of silence as she drew circles on his chest. She understood. What she didn't know was that he was chosen by sorrow. His dreams would be pure and unfiltered. The emotions held in a vice grip would drown him. The nightmares wouldn't be pretty.
"Then I'll stay up with you." She hummed while putting her chin on his chest.
"Just go to sleep. Don't worry about me."
"Mm-mm." She shook her head. She then grabbed his hands and brought them to her shapely bottom. He squeezed them and held on.
"..........."
"Don't let go." She mewled.
They would embrace each other like this until the sun rose high into the sky.
