Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics

Chapter 4697: Chapter 3772: Spiritual Energy Recovery (Part 1)

It's another morning in New York. Wanda got up early, took a shower, and leaned lazily against the bathroom door to dry her hair. By the time her hair was almost dry, Jarvis had also gotten up. They both went to play with the child, then Jarvis went to scoop the cat litter while Wanda topped up the cat food, and then went to the kitchen to make a simple sandwich for both of them. After wrapping it in paper and cutting it in half, she placed one half in her own bag and the other half in Jarvis's bag. Jarvis held the child as they got into the car, and Wanda drove towards their respective workplaces.

First, she dropped Jarvis and the child off at the Stark Building, and then Wanda drove herself to the Elders Council Hospital. Once inside the hospital, she took out the sandwich from her bag and ate it as she quickly walked to the emergency department.

"I'm here!" Wanda gulped down the last bite of her sandwich, took two gulps of water, then asked, "Was everything okay last night?"

"Thanks to you. The two car accident victims are out of danger, the one who had acid reflux into their trachea is fine, and the one who had a shampoo bottle stuck in their rectum just left not long ago. The work report is on the table, you can read it yourself." The night shift emergency nurse said while packing up.

"It's good that nothing happened." Wanda sighed in relief. "I was a bit worried about that patient with a ruptured spleen from the car accident, so I came in early today."

Before she could finish her sentence, a middle-aged doctor in a white coat rushed in: "Wanda! Hurry! Come with me, quick! There's a baby with heart failure in the ambulance, but it's stuck in traffic! We need your help!"

"I'm coming!" Wanda quickly tossed her water bottle aside, threw her bag onto a nearby chair, not even having time to change clothes, and hurriedly followed the doctor out.

As soon as she ran out of the hospital doors, she grabbed the doctor: "Don't drive, tell me where they're stuck, I'll fly over directly!"

"It's right over by Fifth Avenue in Manhattan! There's only one ambulance there now, if you fly over you'll see it. Bring the child back first! Hurry!"

Wanda turned into a streak of red light and vanished into the New York City skyline. She arrived beside the street the doctor mentioned, and sure enough, she saw an ambulance from Elders Council Hospital stuck there with its lights flashing.

The cars beside it weren't unwilling to make way, but the morning traffic in Manhattan was so congested there wasn't even a sliver of space. The lane they managed to clear was barely wide enough for small vehicles, but the ambulance couldn't pass. Yet unfortunately, the baby needed the ambulance equipment to stay alive, and the cries of the parents were audible from a hundred meters away.

Wanda hurried over. Seeing a red light descend in front of him, the ambulance driver and doctor not only didn't panic but instead relaxed and shouted: "Quickly, Wanda! Take the child and the equipment first!"

Wanda reached out to hold the child, but the moment she touched the baby, she hesitated. Seeing her expression, the doctors and nurses around her were also stunned.

"What's wrong? Is there a problem with the child?"

"You said this child has heart failure?" Wanda asked in confusion.

"Yes, he has congenital heart disease, he..."

"He doesn't have congenital heart disease." Wanda said, looking at the parent speaking, "His heart is fine. And aren't the data on the device normal?"

Everyone turned to look at the monitoring data. The doctor widened his eyes because he discovered that in the very second Wanda spoke, the data on the monitoring devices had returned to normal.

"Did you do this?" another nurse asked Wanda.

"It wasn't me, I don't have a medical license and wouldn't dare to meddle with someone else's heart." Wanda shook her head and said, "I've told you before, although the power of Scarlet can heal some injuries, I don't have professional medical knowledge and wouldn't dare to randomly touch important parts like the heart and brain. I can't treat heart disease."

"Then how did this happen?" The doctor scratched his head and said, "Never mind, just to be safe, take the child to the hospital and let the attending physician give him a thorough examination."

Wanda nodded. With a wave of her hand, the entire ambulance lifted off the ground and flew to the hospital at the fastest speed. The attending physician and the treatment team were waiting eagerly at the hospital entrance, and upon hearing that the infant was out of danger, they were also dumbfounded.

Soon they took the child away. Wanda had just returned to the emergency department to rest for a bit, but she was called over again.

"Wanda, are you sure you didn't use the power of Scarlet to heal his heart?" The attending doctor asked her, "We mean no offense, but this child's congenital heart disease suddenly vanished. It's not the kind that was cured by surgery; it's suddenly no different from a normal person. If it's not supernatural force, it really can't be explained..."

"It really wasn't me." Wanda said, "The power of Scarlet can be said to be an omnipotent force; it truly can heal wounds, but this child's congenital heart disease is a congenital malformation. If the power of Scarlet were to heal on its own, there would be no change, because it grew this way upon birth, and no matter how it heals it can only grow back the same way. And if I were to control it to heal, I wouldn't know how to treat congenital heart disease at all, so it couldn't have been me."

A room full of doctors scratched their heads, not knowing what was going on. The parents of the child were also perplexed. Their child's congenital heart disease was troublesome, and they had visited almost every known hospital in America; they even looked at the scans themselves and could see the abnormalities, making a misdiagnosis unlikely. Normally, congenital heart disease does not self-heal, but their child's heart now shows no difference from a normal person's, which is utterly baffling.

"Professor! Professor!" a young doctor suddenly rushed in with a scan saying, "Professor, is our hospital's equipment malfunctioning? Why can't we see the gastric spread of the cancer patient in room 3019?"

One of the gray-haired doctors unwillingly stepped out from the group of doctors, took the scan, and was just about to chastise them when he was taken aback: "What's going on? Was this scan taken today? You didn't take the wrong one, did you?"

"No, this is just taken a few minutes ago..."

"Doctor! Doctor!" Another nurse rushed in and said, "Who is the attending physician for room 806? Did we get the stitching time wrong? How is the wound completely healed without even a scar when we changed the dressing?"

"Dr. Ferdinand! Did you overdose on the painkillers again? The patient with the twisted joint suddenly says he doesn't feel pain anymore. Give me your prescription to check!"

"Where's the attending physician for room 1301? Why hasn't the patient's mood been calmed? Why did he say he was cured and didn't need treatment again this morning?"

The whole hospital was in chaos, with nurses and doctors everywhere searching for people. The suddenly self-healing patient was no longer the biggest issue; the oncology department was where the real trouble had started.

Wanda wasn't an oncology nurse, but she overheard a few things from the nurses who came looking for help, and with the self-healing patient incident just now, she sensed something was off and kept thinking about it as she returned to the emergency department.

Soon, her colleagues began arriving for their shifts. As a superpower user, those dirty and tiring tasks that trouble ordinary people were no issue for her; she could solve them with a wave of her hand. Plus, whenever an ambulance was blocked, or patients caused a ruckus in the emergency room, or unreasonable family members caused trouble, it was always Wanda who resolved the situation. That's why, even just after passing her probation period, she had already become like the head nurse of the emergency department.

"Morning, Wanda. How's your little sweetheart doing?"

"If you're talking about those two less furry ones, they're fine. Ever since they learned to walk, they've been running all over the place, and Jarvis has to take them to work, or else by the time we get off work, they'd already be near Manhattan."

"Oh, I meant your only little one at home who's taller than the table legs. Is he coming to pick you up after work today?"

Wanda rolled her eyes slightly and said, "If you and Lina could shift your eyes off my husband a little, I think he'd be more willing to come."

The nurse's station erupted in laughter. Wanda sighed. Having a handsome husband was a real problem. Every time Jarvis came to pick her up after work, half of the hospital's nurses would be drooling over him.

"Alright, seriously. What's going on this morning? Why's the hospital in such chaos? Did those doctors go out drinking at a party again last night and are now writing prescriptions with their feet this morning? The head nurse of the oncology department has already been ranting for half an hour."

"Who knows. I heard something's going on over in the surgery department too. There's a surgery that couldn't be completed halfway. Dr. Strange is over there yelling at people and just made two interns cry again..."

Hearing Strange's name, Wanda's mind stirred. Being a mutant, she naturally knew about the big events happening in the cosmos recently. The changes in the hospital now might be related to that. But she was just an executor, not knowing the full plan or what ultimate changes were brought. However, Strange, being the Supreme Magician, would definitely know. She had to find a way to ask him.

Thinking about having to go to the surgery department, Wanda felt a bit intimidated. Strange in work mode was like a devil; even the king of hell would get snubbed. She was sure to face trouble if she went.

But since there really weren't many patients in the emergency room now, and her curiosity was getting the better of her, she decided to go to the surgery floor before lunch. She hadn't even reached Strange's location when she heard a bunch of surgeons talking:

"You wouldn't believe it. I used all my strength and couldn't cut through. Is this guy's abs made of iron?"

"That's nothing. My intern was cutting for half the day, and as soon as the front was cut, it grew back! It was like seeing Jesus!"

"I've been a surgeon for 20 years and never encountered something like this. Plus, this isn't an isolated case. Didn't you just hear Steven swearing over there? It seems because when he got into the operating room, the skull hadn't opened up. He has eight surgeries to do today; looks like he won't finish again."

"Waiting a bit longer doesn't matter. But for that neurosurgery he couldn't complete halfway, could the skull actually grow back on its own?"

Wanda eavesdropped at the stairway for a long time. When she heard footsteps approaching, she pretended nothing was amiss and walked upstairs.

"Good morning, Lady Wanda. Are you here to see Steven?"

"Yes, there's something about the mutants..."

"He's resting in the innermost room. You should go over quickly."

Wanda smiled at them and then walked towards the innermost room. She knocked on the door, and as soon as it opened, Strange was pacing around the room like a mule on a treadmill.

Wanda had just walked in when Shiller rushed in hurriedly. As soon as Shiller entered, Strange yelled at him, "Look at what you've done! How am I supposed to do this surgery now?!"
