Darkness Beneath Light

After an hour she saw an orphanage, she thought would be the perfect place to leave the child. Hiding her face, she flew to the orphanage. There was an old man with the help of a wooden stick in his hands standing in front of the orphanage.

She went down in front of the gate of the orphanage, "Greeting elder." She said in a sad and low crying voice.

'Here come the one more to leave their child behind. Well, what can I say?' Old man thought.

"I–"

Stopping her before she could say anything, "You don't have to say anything about why you have to leave your child behind right. And I guess for that you might have some deep reason. I understand, here give the child to me and leave quickly. Don't worry, I will take good care of him." Old man said.

'My child? Do I even have the right to call him my child? I'm going to abandon him, I can't even protect him by being by his side.' Before handing over the child to the old man, she whispered something in his ears. Then with a sad and happy face behind the cloth she was hiding, she handed over the child to the old man.

As soon as the child was in the arms of the old man, he started crying while looking toward her.

"Please take care of him for a while, I will be back as soon as possible." Saying that she flew away from there.

"She's left, can you please stop crying?" Old man said, looking at the child.

Along with the child, an old man entered the hall of the orphanage, the child was still crying. There were eleven children playing around, most of them around the age of four and five. Two teenage girls and one boy who grew up there were taking care of the children there.

"Hey, all of you listen here. We have one new family member. I will name him Kaito." Hearing the old man, the teens stood up and walked to him while the rest of the children were busy in their own world.

"Stop playing for a while." Still the children continued playing and didn't listen to him.

"Leave them be grandfather, give him to me. I will give a bath and help him to wear the clothes." One teenage girl said. Old man handed Kaito to her, she took him inside the bath house and after a few minutes they returned.

Kid Kaito was wearing a single brown robe which was covering his whole body. She put him on the ground. Sitting on the ground, he was looking around with curious eyes. The old man went next to him. "His name is Kaito, from today onward he will be one of us so look after him." He shouted. This time all of the children playing around listened to him.

One child looking at Kaito moved his arm, "Come here." Old man and three teenagers expect Kaito to quickly stand up and run there. But Kaito slowly started to crawl there.

"Hm? Can't he run or at least walk there?" Teenage boy continued, "Wait a minute, let me help him to stand up." He went near Kaito and holding both his hands, he lifted up Kaito and made him stand on the ground. With his help Kaito easily stood on the ground, "Nice, now walk there." Saying that as soon as the boy leaves Kaito's hand, Kaito quickly fell down on the ground and started crying. "It looks like he can't walk." Old man said.

"How?"

"I don't know." Old man walked closer to Kaito and continued, "Your parents completely ignored you kid, they weren't even taught to walk. Stop crying, and don't worry we will teach you everything we can."

"Grandfather, look he is toothless." Child sitting in front of Kaito said.

"How come he doesn't have a single tooth?" Thinking Kaito was a year old, the old man said. As he doesn't know that Kaito came to the world not long ago.

"Leave that be, it will grow in feature but let first teach him to walk."

In the first few months when Kaito started staying there, sometimes he would cry remembering the face of the young lady she met soon after coming to the world. But slowly he started to live happily among them.

Kaito awakened his energy of Occult Orb when he was only two years old, while others awakened there after turning eight. On top of that he didn't possess a single Occult energy, but five dominant energies. it was abnormal, the old man told him not to use his Occult orb around the people till he turned eight. But as the Occult orb was new and exciting for him, he would always practice it while hiding himself from others.

After Kaito turned five, the old man started to teach how to cook food. After seeing a few times how the old man cooks he easily learns it. While he cooks alone, he always uses his fire Occult energy to cook food easily and quickly.

Now he was ten years old, he could easily cook all types of food. 

All the other members had left the orphanage, children got adopted and teenagers left to study about their Occult orb. As the orphanage's main source of income was by cooking food for other households nearby and sometimes, they get orders from the restaurant around them. And now that only he and the old man were leaving there, he had nothing to do but help the old man in cooking.

It was early morning, Kaito was laying down in his room looking at the roof with his round pink eyes with his hands behind his wavy sky-blue hair was like a small wave of a sea reaching around his neck. "Kaito, are you awake?" He heard an old man's voice coming from outside of the room.

"Yes, grandfather."

"Can you buy some fresh vegetables from the market? Today we got an order from that expensive restaurant where you wanted to eat."

"What? But why would they order us for the food?"

"I don't know the details, but it seems some high figures are coming to our town today. So, their chef would be busy cooking food for them and while the food we will cook would be for the common people like us. And you also have to work more today."

"Oh! Okay, I will be back soon." With the excitement on his face, he came running out of his room and went outside the orphanage.

"Wow! Who is really coming here?" View around him was too different. The shops were clean and had a new look in them. It was like it became a whole new place overnight, and it was also more crowded than usual.

After walking for a while, he reached the vegetable shop from where he always buys. , "Little girl, welcome." A greengrocer female around twenty said smiling. As Kaito's eyes were pink, people around him always teased him by calling him a girl.

"Grandma, I told you to stop calling me girl." And in return he alway calls her grandma despite her young age.

"And I call you to stop calling me grandma. I'm even married, if you keep calling me that people would really start growing suspicious of my age."

"Okay, but first give me all the vegetables you have here."

"All?"

"Yes, why is there any problem?"

"No, but do you really need all this?"

"Yes, so quickly store all the vegetables inside this storage ring." Kaito took out the ring he was wearing in his index finger and gave it to her.

She put the fresh vegetable inside the storage ring and gave the ring back to Kaito. "How much do I have to pay?"

"It will take some time for me to sum up all the costs. You go back, I will stop by the orphanage later."

"Okay, then." With a smile on his face, he wore the ring and started to go back to the orphanage. As he was walking while enjoying the new look of the town, "Commoners! Clear the street, his Majesty's carriage coming."

After hearing the voice coming from behind, he stopped and looked back. All the people were moved to each side of the street making a clear path at the center. Kaito also moved to the left side of the street and stood there, fifty warriors were riding horses, and all of them were wearing silver armors and iron swords in their waist. And at the center of them there was a big carriage attached to two horses. 

People standing on each side of the street were bowing their heads as the carriage came near them. While all were bowing down their heads, Kaito was looking at the carriage, and as it was coming closer to him excitement increased in his eyes.

Soon the carriage passed by him, "Why didn't you bow down your head?" A man spanked the back of his head.

"Oh! Sorry, I got lost in the view."

"Tsk! It's good that our kind king didn't mind it, if it was some other, they would have taken it as an offense."

Kaito started there as he was watching them going from behind, and as the street returned to normal with his happy face he returned to the orphanage.
