Chapter 13: Tsubaki Collbrande
On the streets of Northeastern Orario.
Under Finn's guidance, Kelvin walked next to him, a little slower as he watched the surrounding streets that were full of the hustle and bustle of workers, be it adventurers, blacksmiths, or other merchants selling their wares by the roadside.
It was no wonder, as this area contained the forge where the Hephaestus Familia worked, and that was where they were currently headed.
They walked quietly, ignoring some of the stares directed at them, as well as how noisy the streets were.
Both of their characters were not enough to care or be interested in things like this. That was why they quickly ignored the many things happening around them.
After walking for a few minutes, they arrived at a certain workshop, where Hephaestus worked.
It was just an ordinary building, which was slightly unkempt, and mostly covered by coal ash. Meanwhile, from outside the building, Kelvin could hear loud crashing sounds that he believed came from iron being forged.
"This is the place."
"Um..., here?" Kelvin asked hesitantly.
Despite some speculations, Kelvin found it strange to think that this rundown and dirty looking building was their main destination. Although he did hear the sound of iron forging from inside, and the surrounding area was filled almost to the brim with blacksmiths, but he still felt strange when he knew their destination was a place like this.
After all, even though he had seen it from the anime, but seeing it in person completely ruined his expectations.
Is this the workplace of the most famous blacksmith in Orario?!
How could it not be. Kelvin thought, as the number one blacksmith family in Orario, Hephaestus must have a..., um, luxurious workshop?
But, what he saw was exactly the opposite. This forge was almost no different from any other forge, except that the area was larger, but that was it.
After all, the Hephaestus Familia was called the most famous and number one blacksmithing Familia, with the Goibniu Familia as their rivals, who were trying to usurp the title of the best blacksmithing Familia in Orario.
After all, despite being a blacksmith-type Familia, the Hephaestus Familia was not to be underestimated. Especially when their Familia Captain, was a level 5 adventurer even though he was a blacksmith.
Seeing Kelvin's reaction, Finn only laughed as he looked at him and said, "Most blacksmiths are known to have this kind of personality. They would rather hang out in a dirty forge, forging iron, than sit in a fancy office."
He continued:
"If we make an appointment somewhere else, there's a chance that 'he' won't be able to come, but it's different if we come to this place. It's 100% certain that she's in this place."
While saying this, Finn walked in and opened the door, followed by Kelvin who nodded silently behind him.
"They seem to be busy at the moment. Luckily I've already made an appointment with them, so we can just go straight in."
Once they entered, inside the workshop the lighting was quite dim, only a few lamps from magic crystals placed in several places to light up the room a little.
Deep inside, a faint red glow emanates from the workshop, and the air is filled with the smell of iron. An atmosphere like this would make most people want to keep their distance as the heat generated could be felt even from a considerable distance.
As if unaffected by the atmosphere around him, Finn looked around as he found no one in this room.
"Tsubaki! Are you in there?!"
He immediately raised his voice to be louder, making sure that the people inside the workshop could hear him well amidst the clashing metal.
"Yes! I'm here! Wait a moment!"
In the next second, a female voice responded from inside upon hearing Finn's voice.
With a strong response, a figure appeared before them. And a tall woman appeared from inside the workshop.
The woman had brown skin, long black hair, red eyes, and wore an eye patch over her left eye.
Her large breasts were hidden under the sarashi she wore, and she also wore red hakama and sandals on her feet.
At first glance, Kelvin immediately recognized this woman.
Tsubaki Collbrande.
She was the Captain of the Hephaestus Familia, as well as a level 5 first-class adventurer.
"Hey, Finn! It's been a long time! You still retain your youthful charm. Come here, let me hug you!"
The woman, Tsubaki excitedly came to them, or rather Finn as she opened her arms for a hug.
But, Finn quickly dismissed her hand with a disinterested expression. He was used to this actually.
"No, thank you." Finn said indifferently.
And, as if ignoring Kelvin's existence, the two people started chatting with each other for some time. until finally Finn remembered their purpose to this place.
"Uhuk! Let me introduce him to you." Finn glanced at Kelvin as he smiled, "Tsubaki Collbrande, Captain of the Hephaestus Familia, a first-class blacksmith and one of the best in Orario. And, although she's a blacksmith, but she's a level 5 first class adventurer, and is the only blacksmith who has level 1 in Orario at the moment."
"Let me introduce him, his name is Kelvin Edelfelt. And he is our new member."
"Him?" Tsubaki's gaze turned strange, looking at the teenager who wore an eye patch and worked as an adventurer, as well as being part of the Loki Familia ....
In the next second, Tsubaki grinned. After all, there was no way the Loki Familia would accept a youth like this.
Even if they accepted him, he should have something valuable, whether it was a skill or magic, that was powerful enough to be useful to their Familia.
But, she was not interested in finding out more. So, he approached as she extended her hand for a handshake.
"Oh! Nice to meet you, kid! Looks like Finn likes you. In fact, he himself drove you to our place."
"Oh, you know what we're here for?"
"Of course. Although you didn't mention it, but you came while bringing a new member. What else besides you wanting to make a weapon for this brat?"
"Haha, just as you intended. I want you to make a weapon for him. And what that weapon is about," Finn turned to Kelvin, "can you tell him, Kelvin?"
"Um, is this okay, Captain?"
"Of course not. As long as it does not exceed 100 million valis, you can ask for anything for your weapon."
"Haha! Did you hear that, kid? Now hurry up and tell me, and I'll make one strong enough for you!"
Tsubaki laughed as she patted Kelvin's back a few times, making him frown slightly due to the difference in their levels, making Tsubaki's pats really hurt his back.
"Well, then can I have a long stick that can be used as three weapons at once?"
"Oh? Looks like you have something interesting in your head." Tsubaki raised her eyebrows with an interested expression, "try telling me the details."
Not only Tsubaki, but Finn also showed an interested expression about Kelvin's words. Previously, he knew Kelvin wanted to use the scythe as his main weapon, but it seemed he wanted to change that option to a more versatile weapon.
Of course, there were some advantages and disadvantages when using such a weapon.
For example, the advantage was that Kelvin didn't have to spend more money to make several types of weapons. Also, he didn't need to burden his body by carrying several at once, because with one weapon, he could already change it to his liking.
But, the downside was, such weapons were quite fragile and not durable. In addition, there were problems with the mechanics of the weapon; if it wasn't well-made, it would naturally have an impact on the user when he used it.
Then, Kelvin began to explain the type of weapon he wanted.
"I want a long staff, probably around 160-170cm, which I can use as a spear or scythe as I wish."
"Hmm, quite interesting. But, I don't have any drawings that I can make. Well, it's different if you have an image of this weapon for me."
"Hmm, of course. Let me make the blueprints for you."
Hearing that, Tsubaki nodded with an interested expression. She then brought a blank paper along with stationery for Kelvin.
There, although Kelvin was wearing an eye patch, it didn't seem to prevent him from seeing what was around him. He could see normally like everyone else, this really made Tsubaki feel interested.
'Perhaps, because he lost one of his senses, his other senses were enhanced to such an extent?'
She remembered hearing this phrase for some time. So, she thought that this was also the case with Kelvin.
After that, Kelvin made a picture in his head.
He pictured a long stick with a pointed end, on which was a crescent-shaped blade that had a mechanism to open and close in such a way.
If in crescent mode, the blade would spread out with a slightly jagged bottom.
While if the blade was closed, it would fold down, making it a spear with a sizable tip on one side.
"Hmm, this is interesting. Although it's still in rough shape. Would you like me to make this for you?"
"Yes. Approximately how much will it cost me and how long will it take?"
"Let me see. Since Finn said no more than 100 million valises. That means I have to make it from affordable materials. I think I can make this with 90 million valises, with light steel materials. As for the processing time, it should take about 2 weeks, and you can come to pick it up."
"Oh, that's fast enough. I think at this price there won't be any problems with this." Finn nodded quickly.
After all, their current funds were only 100 million valis. To make a first-class weapon with this much money, of course it was enough, but to make a weapon according to Kelvin's wishes would require double the money due to its complexity.
Moreover, it must be quite difficult to make a weapon that changes shape, so Finn thought it was fine to spend 90 million valis on this weapon.
