Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Out of Control Super Soldier Plan!
Samuel Stern, also known online as Mr. Blue—and as Mr. Lan in Joseph's contact list—stood nervously before the camera, trying to remain composed. The battlefield raged in the background as the X-Men, Iron Man, and Hulk fought fiercely against the Abomination. But strangely, the audience in the livestream room no longer paid attention to the battle.
They were too engrossed in Samuel's every word.
"I'll be honest," Samuel began, stealing a glance at Joseph off-camera, "I don't know everything. Most of what I'm about to share was told to me by a net friend—the green titan himself, Hulk."
He took a deep breath and adjusted his stance.
"Many of you have seen the statue of Captain America in the World War II Memorial and know of his heroic deeds. But few realize that Captain America—Steve Rogers—was the first and only success of a top-secret government experiment known as the Super Soldier Project."
The comment section paused for a moment, the audience stunned by the implication.
"The plan was simple in concept—develop a serum capable of enhancing human genetics, granting unparalleled strength, speed, endurance, and reflexes. A perfect soldier."
Samuel's eyes darkened.
"Steve Rogers was the only success. He transformed from a frail man into the battlefield icon you know today. If all had gone as intended, he would have been the first of an entire army of super soldiers."
"But tragedy struck. Dr. Erskine—the man behind the serum—was assassinated. And with him died the exact formula. The project was put on hold… at least, temporarily."
There was a pause. Then his expression turned grim.
"But the military didn't give up."
His voice grew tense.
"They restarted the program under the supervision of General Ross."
A new wave of outrage flooded the livestream chat.
Samuel continued, "Dr. Bruce Banner—yes, the same man who becomes the Hulk—was misled into joining the project. He believed he was performing gamma radiation experiments. But in reality, he was unknowingly part of the military's rebooted Super Soldier Project."
"And then… disaster struck again."
Samuel's voice cracked with tension.
"An accident occurred. Banner's body absorbed gamma radiation in a way no one could have anticipated. His DNA was altered, and from then on, anger would trigger a terrifying transformation into the Hulk."
"Ever since, he's been hunted like an animal by the very people who created him."
"And why?" Samuel narrowed his eyes. "Because his blood—his mutated DNA—is now the key to developing an even stronger serum. A new generation of Super Soldiers."
At this point, most viewers were slack-jawed. Samuel's words weren't just explanation—they were damning.
He pressed on, recounting how Banner eventually reached out to him for help, how he had mailed a sample of his blood in hopes of finding an antidote. Samuel had tried. But the military, led by Ross, traced Banner to his lab and came after him with a specialized task force.
And then came the turning point.
"Emil Blonsky," Samuel muttered with a shudder. "The captain of the elite team sent to capture Banner… lost his mind when he saw Hulk's power firsthand."
"He... put a gun to my head," Samuel said, his voice dropping. "He forced me to inject him with Hulk's blood. He wasn't content with just the Super Soldier Serum the military had given him."
Samuel paused again. His face turned pale.
"He combined both—the incomplete military serum and Banner's mutated blood. The result…"
He didn't need to finish the sentence.
Everyone watching already knew.
"That's how the Abomination was born," he finally said. "Not through careful testing or oversight, but through desperation and obsession. Blonsky transformed himself into a raging monster—and nearly killed me afterward."
Having gotten everything off his chest, Samuel stepped back, visibly relieved.
The audience, meanwhile, was stunned into silence. For a moment.
Then…
"So Hulk's actually a scientist?"
"And the Abomination... used to be a special forces captain?!"
"The military did this?"
"Wait, are you saying the Abomination chose to become that thing?!"
The truth hit like a tidal wave.
The destruction, the deaths, the chaos engulfing Broadway—it was all the military's fault.
Not a tragic accident.
A decision.
A failed experiment born of reckless ambition.
And the realization infuriated everyone watching.
The chat exploded again.
So many dead, so much devastation—all because the military wanted another Captain America. But instead, they created a nightmare. Twice.
This wasn't like Wilhelm Stryker's Weapon X program, which, as evil as it was, targeted Mutants and operated from a different kind of prejudice. What Ross had done endangered everyone.
Stryker's crimes were ideological. Ross's were apocalyptic.
"He should be court-martialed!"
"Ross is worse than Stryker!"
"They let this man become a general?!"
"This is a war crime!"
Messages flooded the screen at record speed. Rage ignited in homes far beyond New York. Across the country, fear settled in people's bones.
Who could sleep soundly knowing that one day, your city might be flattened by another 'experiment'?
Back aboard the Osprey, General Ross stared down at the battlefield. The arrival of the X-Men and Iron Man had shifted the tide slightly—Abomination was wounded and slowed.
For Ross, this was acceptable.
Even if Banner escaped again, that didn't matter. The true prize was still below—Abomination. A more evolved, more controlled version of Hulk.
Blonsky can think, strategize, even speak coherently, Ross reasoned. This version of the serum might actually be better.
In fact, Ross even began to reconsider the value of Stryker's work.
"Maybe Mutants do have their uses," he muttered. "Maybe Weapon X wasn't as much of a waste as I thought."
Just then, a strange voice cut through his private headset.
"General Ross," the voice said mockingly. "Congratulations on becoming a household name!"
Ross stiffened, glancing around. None of his soldiers had reacted. This was a direct line.
His eyes narrowed.
"Who is this?"
"I'm with S.H.I.E.L.D.," the voice answered. "If I were you, I'd pull out your phone and check the latest headlines."
The words hit him like a gut punch.
S.H.I.E.L.D.
Of course. Only they could tap a military comm line like that.
Ross pulled out his phone and opened the news app.
There, at the top of every feed, was Eddie Locke's face—the Global Daily reporter.
The split-screen showed Samuel Stern's interview playing in real time. Everything was being replayed for the world to see: Hulk's origins, Blonsky's transformation, the Super Soldier Project… all of it.
Ross's jaw clenched.
"How... how does he know all this? Banner never mentioned these details. How the hell did Stern know?!"
Seconds ago, Ross was fantasizing about harvesting Abomination's DNA for the next stage of the serum. Now, it all lay in ruins—his secrets exposed, his legacy shattered.
Nick Fury's voice returned in his earpiece.
"General Ross. Those two monsters you helped create? They're wrecking the city. Mutants are out there cleaning up your mess. And you? You're about to become a historical disgrace."
He paused.
"Mutants are getting applause. You're getting condemnation."
"This isn't the first time they've done this," Fury added. "They exposed Stryker, too. You'd think you'd have learned something from that."
Ross slammed a fist into the cabin wall, snarling.
"I don't care about Mutants!"
He stopped mid-sentence. His eyes locked onto the battle again, his fury shifting to cold clarity.
"They're using this... to gain favor. They want to build themselves up by tearing me down."
Fury chuckled.
"At least you're not completely delusional."
Ross seethed. "What's the point of this call, Fury? You calling just to gloat?"
"No," Fury replied. "Just offering you... options."
That gave Ross pause.
"What kind of options?"
"S.H.I.E.L.D. can mediate this," Fury explained calmly. "You're not Stryker. You're still a general. If you agree to let us oversee the Super Soldier Project moving forward... we'll help manage public perception."
Ross's eyes narrowed.
"Terms?"
"Full supervision. From this moment on, the Super Soldier Project is under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s oversight."
For a brief moment, Ross said nothing.
Then he let out a long, bitter breath.
He had no choice.
"Fine," he muttered. "But I'll remember this, Fury."
"Good," Fury said. "Let's hope the next generation of soldiers doesn't come with green skin and city-crushing fists."
