Civilization of Darkness

Chapter 6: Killing is Innocent!

"Quick, quick!" Outside the door, a man in his thirties, short in stature but very muscular, waved his hand, signaling the soldiers to hurry.

"Not a single one of them can be spared. Commander Li has ordered that anyone who resists must be killed," the muscular man said coldly.

Each soldier carried a pistol, with a short knife tucked in the waist of their camouflage uniforms, and even their boots had hidden blades. Their gear was extremely well-equipped. Regular soldiers' camouflage uniforms typically had a few pockets, and there were hidden compartments designed to carry useful tools easily.

"First team, scout ahead," the muscular man ordered.

Five agile men exchanged looks and slowly moved forward, keeping close to the walls, and approaching the door. Their guns were always aimed at the door, their expressions grim.

Just then—

Amid the silence, the crisp sound of footsteps was heard, and Ye Chen slowly walked out from inside, with Bai Long and the others following closely behind. They immediately saw a large truck parked not far from the door. Behind the trash bins and small trees in the distance, a few barely noticeable sniper rifles were aimed at them. The dark gun barrels gave a chilling feeling.

At the entrance, five people were pressed against the wall, holding their pistols tightly, their faces slightly nervous.

"Throw down your weapons and squat down," a muscular man from behind the truck shouted loudly.

Ye Chen glanced at him indifferently and said calmly, "Who is Commander Li? Where is he?"

"You don't have the right to ask," the muscular man sneered. "Who do you think you are, asking about the Commander?"

In fact, as a team leader, he wasn't allowed to disclose any information about his superiors.

"No right?" Ye Chen lowered his head and pondered for a moment as if weighing the meaning of the words. After a brief pause, he looked up, fixing his gaze on the muscular man, his eyes narrowing slightly.

"Bang!"

Two yards away, a soldier holding a pistol and constantly alert had his head explode like fireworks, blood splattering in all directions. His body fell to the ground stiffly, not even knowing why he had died so suddenly.

If anyone had been paying close attention, they would have seen Ye Chen's feet move by just one centimeter from where he stood.

All this happened in the blink of an eye, far faster than anyone's eyes or nervous systems could react. No one even saw how he made his move.

"Not good!" The others were all shocked. Although they didn't know how Ye Chen had killed the man, they quickly reacted, raising their pistols and aiming them at Ye Chen's forehead.

"You bastard, how dare you resist? Shoot!" the muscular man yelled angrily.

Everyone had been waiting for that order and immediately pulled the triggers.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...

Countless bullets shot through the air, coming towards Ye Chen. Time seemed to slow down in his eyes, and the trajectories of the bullets were clear to him.

He reached out with his hand.

To the soldiers, Ye Chen's arm suddenly turned into hundreds of afterimages, impossible to track, vanishing in less than 0.001 seconds. It was like an illusion, and then they saw Ye Chen's palm come together.

Ye Chen looked at them coldly and slowly opened his hand.

The entire area fell silent.

In Ye Chen's hand, there was a large pile of bullets. As his palm tilted slightly, the bullets fell to the ground with a series of "thud-thud" sounds, like hammers striking the soldiers' hearts.

Once a human reaches level 10, they gain the ability to dodge ordinary handgun bullets. The typical speed of a handgun bullet is around 300–400 meters per second, while a rifle's is around 700–800 m/s. With Ye Chen's reflexes at level 30, he was more than capable of reacting in time.

"Now, do I have the right?" Ye Chen asked coldly, his gaze fixed on the muscular man.

"You..." The muscular man's heart trembled. Although there were a dozen soldiers around him, he felt no sense of safety in Ye Chen's cold eyes. It was as though he was trapped in an ice cave.

"This is a military camp. Don't make trouble," the muscular man stammered.

Ye Chen's voice remained ice-cold. "Who is Commander Li? Where does he live?"

The muscular man trembled, "In the 68th Military Camp, his name is... Li Junhui."

Ye Chen stared at him for a moment, sensing he wasn't lying, before taking a step forward and leading the group to move out. The soldiers pressed against the walls watched in fear, not daring to stop them. They wished the walls were made of tofu so they could bury themselves in it and escape from such a dangerous person.

The atmosphere was utterly intimidating.

Dozens of soldiers, armed with pistols, could only watch helplessly as Ye Chen and his group walked out, unable to move.

"Beep..."

Suddenly, a large truck came driving from a distance. At about fifty meters away, the soldiers on the truck opened fire, and the gunfire erupted, bullets flying straight toward Ye Chen's forehead.

Ye Chen didn't even glance at them. He raised his hand and grabbed the bullet, then flicked his middle finger. The bullet shot back with a whoosh, striking the soldier who had fired, sending him crashing to the ground.

This move stunned everyone around them.

On the truck, a middle-aged man saw this and was greatly shocked. He quickly shouted, "Stop the truck!"

The driver was stunned for a moment, unsure of what had happened. He only saw Ye Chen waving at him. But after hearing the captain's command, he immediately slammed on the brakes.

"Damn it, how come no one warned me about such a dangerous person?" The middle-aged man on the truck muttered in anger.

"Captain, what do we do now?" one soldier whispered.

The middle-aged man shouted angrily, "What else can we do? Do you want to rush up and die?"

The soldier remained silent.

...

"Where is the 68th camp?" Ye Chen didn't even glance at the truck, focusing on the muscular man.

"Go straight north..." The muscular man's face turned pale as he replied.

Ye Chen nodded, "I'll borrow your truck," and started walking toward the large truck.

"Vroom..."

At that moment, a luxurious BMW appeared from the distance. Judging by its license plate, it was also a military vehicle. The BMW stopped beside the muscular man and his team. A man dressed in black stepped out of the car, looked up, and upon seeing Ye Chen, a smile curved on his lips.

The muscular man saw the black-clad man and his eyes lit up, his heart filled with joy. He thought to himself, Now we're saved. The camp leader is here. This brat is finished.

He quickly walked over, bowing and scraping, "Subordinate greets the camp leader. My apologies for the lack of a proper greeting..."

The man in black waved his hand, interrupting him. He looked around at the tense situation and casually asked, "What's going on?"

The muscular man immediately explained, "Sir, these five people trespassed into the military camp. They are wanted by Commander Li. They have killed people."

According to military law, their punishment should be death.

"...Oh."

The muscular man waited for a response, but after a moment, there was no further reply. He was confused and asked, "Camp leader, should they be executed for violating military regulations?"

The man in black shook his head and said, "They killed in self-defense."

He then walked up to Ye Chen, smiled slightly, and said, "Long time no see. Do you remember me?"
