Chronicles of the Apocalypse (2011)

Bo: This way. If we cut through downtown, we should reach a safehouse by sunrise.

Bo gestures towards the highway road.

Killen: Let's hope.

Dante: Jesus Christ. The buildings look so tilted. Unstable.

Dante looks up in shock as he looks up at the skyscrapers.

Dante: What the hell happened here?

Bo: Missiles bombed the hell out of the city and the surrounding areas of infected, hoping to kill as much as possible.

Dante: Did it work?

Bo: For a while. Yeah.

Suddenly, the three men heard a cry off in the distance, but like a screeching sound.

Dante: Uh....what the hell is that? That didn't sound like an infected.

Killen: Bo, you hear that?

Bo: Yeah, I do, but it sounds really far away.

Killen: Shit.

Dante: We're safe, right?

Bo: For now. Come on.

The three men continue down the road as they come upon a giant bomb crater.

Dante: Damn. That's a helluva drop.

Dante walks up to the edge and looks down.

Killen: There's a safehouse.

Killen points out a large building with a silver roof.

Dante: That capital building?

Bo: Yeah. That's our safehouse. One of em, anyway.

Dante: Why there?

Bo: It's the one place bandits won't think to look...plus, less infected. We need to get around this.

Dante: What is this? Downtown area?

Bo: It was. Now, it's just a crater of a wasteland.

Killen looks around then went over to a skyscraper that was a few feet away from them.

Killen: Over here.

Dante and Bo follow Killen, then get inside the building and start to make their way through it. At one point, Killen opened a door and found a mangled body of a Zeus Corps Soldier.

Bo: He's been ripped to shreds.

Killen: Yeah....

Killen walks up to the body and looks it over.

Killen: Body's fresh.

Dante: Is that bad?

Bo: Most likely....let's not stick around to find out, yeah?

The three walk up to another stairwell when they come up on another body.

Killen: Fuck. Another one.

Killen grabs the dead Zeus Corps Soldier's radio as he listens in.

Dead Zeus Corps Soldier: This is Vasquez in Sector 14. Taylor's dead. We have contact of infected. Level2. I repeat; level fucking two of infected! Wait! Shit! I think I hear them!

Gunfire and screeches are heard as a final scream is heard.

Killen: Sounds like these guys died waiting for backup.

The three head up another set of stairs through the door to their left, only to see a mutated glowing Skinner body up against the door.

Killen: Damn. It's a Krens.

Dante: A what?

Bo: A Krens. That's what we call Skinners that have been exposed to a shit-ton of radioactive fluid.

Dante: Why is his body glowing?

Bo: That's what happens....painful way to die. They often explode, though.

Dante: Seriously? Just how fucked up did the world get over the past twenty-years?

Killen: Very....

Killen shoulder charges at the door and opens it as the three maneuver their way through the building. At one point, the building began to groan as the storm kept pounding.

Bo: Fuck....

Killen: Whole damn building feels like it's on its last legs.

The three then crouch under a low shelf then over to another room.

Dante: Easy....easy...

Killen tries to open a large metal door, but cannot.

Killen: Give me a hand with this, Dante.

Dante and Killen go and shoulder charge the door until it finally opens.

Bo: Killen!

A Krens Skinner pops up and knocks Killen down, but Killen manages to keep the Krens Skinner at bay until Bo pulls it off, throws it to the ground and shoots it in the head.

Dante: Holy shit!

Killen: Thanks....

Dante: You alright?

Killen: Nothing that won't heal. Come on. Let's get the fuck out of here.

The three continue their way through the building.

Killen: Just see if there's a way through.

Killen boosts Bo up a floor as he looks around.

Bo: Okay. It's clear.

Bo kneels down and holds his hand out. Dante goes over, jumps up and grabs Bo's hand as he pulls him up.

Bo: Come on. You got this.

Bo kneels down and reaches out to Killen.

Killen grabs his hand and then pulls him up. The three head toward a stairwell, which was blocked by a large cabinet. Killen grabs the cabinet, pulls it out and moves it to the side.

Killen: Here we go.

The three jumped down the staircase.

Dante: The stairwells blocked. Damn it. Should we head back up?

Dante points to the other set of stairs. Bo begins to climb out the window onto a rusted window-washing rig.

Killen: What the hell are you doing?

Bo: Honestly; not a fucking clue. Just don't look down.

Dante: Is he serious? We'll break our goddamn necks.

Bo: If I fall off, you will.

Bo jumps across the rig. Dante jumps on it, then Bo gets on the rig and runs over to the other rig next to them.

Bo: Come on, Dante.

Dante: Jeez, you kids are crazy....

Bo gets up on the ledge of the building and leans against the wall. Dante gets up on the ledge next to her and leans back.

Dante: Don't look down. Don't look down. Thank God I'm not afraid of heights.

The three shimmy along the ledge, then come across an open window and jump through it.

Bo: Skinners....

Bo points to the floor below.

Killen: I'll go check it out. Stay here.

Killen jumps down to the floor and takes out a couple of Skinners with his knife.

Killen: Alright. Come on down.

Bo: I'm impressed, Killen.

Dante: Yeah, you've got skill, kid.

Killen: Thanks.....old man. It's easy to kill those things.

The three come up to see that the floors of the building have caved in.

Bo: Damn it....down we go.

The three descend.

Bo: You know, I was thinkin...once we get back, we get a beer and watch a few girls dance on stage.

Killen: You want to watch girls shake their asses while sitting on your ass with a cold beer?

Bo: Hey, you're the one who suggests I should start over.

Killen: And you always brush me off.

Dante: So....this city....what's it called?

Bo: It's called Cratersville. You'll know why it's called that when you see it....I think you're gonna like it.

The three make their way into an abandoned underground subway. The three walk along until they heard some Skinners and Krens Skinners.

Bo: Fuck. Goddammit. We're almost out.

Bo looks around.

Bo: Okay; Killen, you take point. Dante....

Bo pulls out a knife.

Bo: Time to get your feet wet. Take them out quietly.

The three make their way through the subway, very quietly and slowly, while taking out some infected and Skinners.

Killen: Alright. Come on.

Killen boosts Bo up to the wall at the other end of the room. Bo gets up and drops the ladder for Dante and Bo.

Killen: Get up here.

The three exit the abandoned subway area into the downtown proper.

Dante: Holy shit. We fucking made it.

Killen: You two good?

Bo: Yes. Let's move.

The three get back out onto the streets.

Dante: You two are pretty good at this shit.

Killen: It's called shitty luck, which does run out. Bo, where we goin?

A few minutes of silence.

Bo: Uh....capitol building's in this direction.

Bo points in front of him. The three head that way to see an overturned semi truck blocking the street.

Bo: Well, this guy certainly knew how to drive.

Dante: How the hell do we get over this truck?

The three look around until Killen found a dumpster. Killen grabs the dumpster and pushes it up against the truck. The three then climb up and over the truck then came up upon a garage.

Bo: Dante....you're a big guy. Would you do the honors?

Dante goes over the chain next to the door and begins to pull it, opening the door, until they hear a cry.

Bo: Shh-shh..

Dante: What? I don't hear anything.

Dante stops pulling. The three look over to see some Skinners climbing over the truck and towards them.

Bo: Double time, Dante. Now.

Dante: Fuck!

Killen: Guys. They're coming!

Dante pulls the chain faster.

Dante: I know!

Working together, Bo and Dante finally gets the door open just enough to crouch through.

Bo: Killen! Go! Go!

Killen crawls through then Bo, who holds up the door as Dante manages to get inside the garage, just as a Skinner grabs his ankle, before Bo slams it shut on them. Dante gets up as the three men stare at the door when the Skinners start slamming and hitting the door.

Killen: Hey. You got something on your shoe, old man.

The three look down to see a cut off hand was still attached to Dante's foot as he kicks it off.

Dante: Disgusting....
