Chronicles of the Apocalypse (2011)

About 60 miles from Cratersville, Zeus Corps armored tanks and trucks are enroute to Cratersville, and a Zeus Corps helicopter flying towards them. In one of the tanks, Barnes is wearing his Zeus Corps armor, and four men are sitting on each side with Epps standing next to him.

Barnes: All right, ladies. Here's the drill. We go in quiet first. We simply ask the inhabitants about the subjects whereabouts. Don't fire until I give the signal. Ohh-rah?

Zeus Corps Soldiers: Ohh-rah!

The tanks and helicopter drive to Cratersville. In the city, Nathan, Billy, Colin, Luke, Sarah, Ashley, Justin, Nora and Walter are sitting down in circle for some lunch, eating salmon, broccoli, and mash potatoes.

Colin: It's amazing. There's still some good food in this world. Nate, your sisters are excellent cooks.

Justin: mmm...yep, Blaine always loved fish.

Walter: yeah, and Ben. He always bragged about how fish could breathe in water with gills.

Nora: Ian was never a fish lover. He was more into crabs. After all....he and I are Marylanders.

Luke: all right, guys.

Luke stands up with his drink in his hand.

Luke: Let's make a toast.....to Ian, to Josiah, and to Blaine.

The others stand up and raise their drinks.

Sarah: may their souls rest easy.

Shortly after sitting back down, Billy is seen fiddling with his necklace, which gains the attention of Colin.

Colin: I gotta ask, Billy. It's been bothering me ever since you got to Cratersville. Your necklace.

Billy: What?

Colin: Every now and then, I see you fiddling with that necklace as if it was a mosquito trying to suck your blood.

Billy: what? I can't fiddle with my own necklace?

Justin: well, from what I've heard the world has seemed to come to an end. At least tell us why you've been messing with it.

Billy: Okay, well, my grandfather, he gave me this when he lost his legs in World War 2. When he gave me that necklace, he said "son, you've got your whole life ahead of you. I give you this necklace to not only indulge it., but to look back on great memories of the past and to pass on to your heirs as well as they will pass it on to theirs.

The others seem to indulge in Billy's speech.

Nathan: You're getting old, Billy.

Everyone else laughs. The guard yells "Hey, Zeus Corps en route!". Everyone gets up and walks out as Nathan and Luke head to the gate. Dante, Killen, James and Jacob are en route back to Cratersville, just as the Zeus Corps squad enters the Cratersville gates. Barnes steps out and goes to the city gates with his troops following him. Luke walks to the gate with his desert eagle.

Barnes: My name is Rick Barnes of the Zeus Military Corporation. Would you please open the gate, please? We have matters in this town!

Nathan orders the point man to open the gate, but slightly. Luke opens the gate slightly as Barnes approaches him.

Luke: evening, sir, can I help you?

Barnes: How you doin, sir? I'm Sergeant Rick Barnes. We've got reports of a man that had just moved in with you guys. About close to 50. Goes by the name of Dante Fenix. Also, you have one of our soldiers.

Luke: "Dante Fenix"? Don't think I've seen him around here....as far as one of your soldiers, we did encounter some yesterday, but they all died I believe.

Barnes: Really? Then you won't mind if we search the city real quick.

Luke: Ah, sorry. Uh...my family, friends and I are eating dinner right now. Maybe another time.

Barnes: (sniffs) mmm-mmm-mmm! That's some damn good cooking you got in there. What is it? Trout? Salmon? Bass?....Or the Rainbow Fish?

Both men laugh.

Barnes: I loved that book as a kid. The star ends up giving each and every fish a piece of her rainbow gills. Actually, quiet....beautiful. Don't you think?

Luke: Yeah, it is, but hey, look, I'm sorry, man. I don't think your guy or your soldier is here.

Barnes looks at Walter. 

Barnes: I recognize him from yesterday....he was with five others...one of them was a guy named Dante.

Luke: Yeah, he was with eight of us yesterday. Three of them die, but I'm sorry, your guy's not here.

Barnes: Okay, let's cut the nice guy bullshit. Gimme the fucking man, and my soldiers or it's gonna get very ugly.

Luke gets in Barne's face.

Luke: Look, asshole, I already told you. There's no Dante here, and even if I knew where he was, you think I would tell you? I have my kids here. I also have a sniper up high aimed at your head. Now....if you would please, sir, move along with your day.

Barnes smiles and pats Luke's' chest.

Barnes: of course. You always protect what's yours. Have a lovely day, sir.

Barnes turns around and walks away.

Luke: Zeus Corps Prick.

Barnes suddenly stops as time slows down.

Luke: close the gate!

Barnes: yeah, fuck this.

Barnes pulls out his gun and shoots Luke in the shoulder, before shooting the sniper down. The others startle out of their seats.

Barnes: Move out!

Zeus Corps Soldiers run into the city and start gunning everybody down. Luke crawls away, into the city. Armed with either rifles or pistols, Colin, Nathan, Walter, Justin, Nora, Bart and Billy open fire on the soldiers, hitting few. Barnes shoots three Cratersville patrons. A patron uses a bat to knock Barnes' rifle out of his hand, but doges the next swing. Barnes grabs the bat, and breaks the patron's hand, before swinging it straight toward his face, snapping his neck. Barnes pulls out his pistol and starts shooting. Sarah and Ashley manage to get into the fight. One Zeus Corps soldier shoots a Rocket launcher at Colin's saloon, knocking a pedestrian off the platform that falls into a nearby house. Sally is running from the chaos. Meanwhile, Dante, Killen, James, and Jacob are en-route back to Cratersville in their jeep.

Jacob: Hey, Killen. I forgot to mention. When I was younger, I came out here once with wife and kids, they had mountains. Back then it was beautiful. I was a huge photographer. The lens was always blurry, but the pictures turned out good....

James gets bored of Jacob story. Dante laughs as he leans near Killen.

Dante: is he always like this?

Killen: pretty much.

James looking off in the distance hears the gunfire, and notices the black smoke coming from Cratersville's direction.

James: whoa, whoa, whoa, Killen.

Killen: what? What, man? Can't you see I'm driving?

James: How far are we from Cratersville?

Killen: Not far. Why?

James: because I think we're late for something.

James points to the smoke and Killen, Dante, and Jacob look to where James points to.

Killen: what the hell?

Dante: what's goin on?

Killen: I don't know, but we've got to get there fast.

In Cratersville, the jail, Mack is wounded and falls back into the prison. Kyle run to the bars.

Kyle: Hey! Mack! Mack! Let us out!

Mack: What?!

Kyle: Please! I can help! I can tell them to stand down! Please.....Mack! Please!

Mack complies and prepares to open Kyle's cell, but a grenade is thrown into the jail, which Kyle notices.

Kyle: Behind you!

The grenade explodes, killing Mack and knocking Kyle back. After the midst, Kyle notices the gunfight outside the jail. Still in the cell, Kyle tries to reach for the Mack's keys. His fingers touch the keys, just as two Zeus Corps Soldiers enter with flashlights out. They then find Kyle's cell door open and Mack's corpse. Kyle grabs one of the Zeus Corps Soldier and grabs his sidearm. Kyle then kills the two Zeus Corps Soldiers before grabbing his assault rifle. Kyle then takes cover, watching the slaughter of the Cratersville civilians.

Kyle: Shit.....

A Zeus Corps soldier is seen shooting at multiple patrons. Nathan, Justin, Nora, Thomas and Sally are seen taking cover with Nathan returning fire.

Nathan: get ready to move to cover on my go! 

Nathan reloads assault rifle.

Nathan: Ready?

Nathan shoots at Zeus Corps forces.

Nathan: Go! Go! Go!

Nora, Justin and Sally run to cover. However, A Zeus Corps soldier, armed with a harpoon gun, shoots at the three, hitting Sally in the torso and pinning her to a wall.

Justin: Sally!

Nora: No! Oh, my god!

Nathan: Fuck!

Thomas shoots at the Zeus Mini-Gunner, but the bullets have no effect as they deflect off his armor.

Nathan: Thomas! Move!

The Zeus Mini-Gunner ultimately guns Thomas down. While on the ground, Thomas bleeds out for a moment before dying. Nathan guns down the Zeus Corps soldier with the Harpoon gun, before running away. A Zeus Rocketeer shoots a fuel tank, causing it to explode. The fire from the explosion splits up Luke from Sarah, Ashley, Nathan, Walter, Bart and Nora, who are seen taking cover. Luke is seen holding off enemy forces when a Zeus Rocketeer is aiming a rocket launcher at Nathan.

Luke: Nathan!

Luke runs over to Nathan and pushes him away just as the Zeus Rocketeer fires. The rocket hits a barrage of gas tanks that explode, destroying Colin's shack. The burning shack then falls onto Luke as he looks up.

Nathan: Dad! No!

Nathan, shocked at the apparent loss of his father, shoots at the Rocketeer, killing him with a shot to the head. Nathan attempts to run at the blazing gas barrages, but Billy holds him back.

Billy: No! We can't save him! C'mon!

Barnes: This is Barnes! I need a full gun down to this town. Wait until my go for the missiles.

The Zeus Helicopter opens fire with their mini guns, killing multiple citizens. Justin, Billy, Bart and Walter duck as they open fire. Barnes prepares to run out of the city, but Kyle stops him holding his assault rifle at him. Barnes points his pistol at him.

Kyle: Barnes!

Barnes: hello there, Lieutenant.

The tanks open fire with grenade rounds as the trailer falls. Nora is knocked down, but Walter helps her up.

Walter: C'mon, Nora!

Walter and Nora take cover with Bart.

Nora: God. Why the fuck did they pick now to bother us?! What do they want?!

Barnes and Kyle are still having their standoff.

Kyle: Stand down! Now!

Barnes: You're talking to a Sergant, kid....So where's Subject 19?

Kyle: Goddamn it, Barnes. All these people! Just for Dante?!

Barnes: So the old man is here. The Mayor said he wasn't. Guess that makes him a liar. I got orders....Company wants you and the kid or at least the doctor wants his freak brother.

Kyle: You're corrupt with this government bullshit! You're just a puppet.

Barnes: and you're too fucking weak to take something good even when it's staring in the goddamned face! Now, you stand down and help us get the old man.

Kyle: No....

Barnes: Huh...I kinda hoped you refused.

Suddenly, a Zeus soldier behind Kyle attempts to shoot him, but Luke arrives and shoots the Zeus Soldier down with his rifle. Barnes turns as Kyle attempts to attack, but Barnes kicks Kyle back. Luke attacks, but Barnes maneuvers and then pulls out his machete and impales Luke in the heart.

Kyle: Luke!

Kyle sprints at Barnes, punching him and then kicking off off the platform, before he tends to the dying Luke.

Luke: Get them out, son. Get them--

Luke dies.

Kyle: Luke....Luke!

Colin runs to Kyle.

Colin: Kyle....

Colin notices Luke's dead body.

Kyle: I tried....I...

Barnes sprints as he talks into his radio.

Kyle: BARNES!

Barnes: This is Barnes! Blow it to kingdom come!

Zeus Helicopter Pilot: Roger, opening fire with rockets.

The Helicopter opens fire onto the town with rockets. The city is blown to smithereens as the patrons run in panic.

Colin: No.....he's blowin the town. They're blowing the fucking down!

Kyle: Move!

Nathan: Everybody get down into the bunkers underground! NOW! Get them through the tunnels go!

Kyle and Colin run into a giant metal cellar while Walter, Billy, Bart, Justin, Nora, Sarah and Ashley run through the tunnels. Nathan looks around for his father, but after he is unable to do so, he closes and seals the underground tunnel shut. With hesitation, Nathan retreats to the tunnel, before joining Walter, Nora, Billy, Sarah, Ashley, Justin and Bart.

Ashley: Nathan...where's Dad? Nathan! Where is he?!

Nathan: I don't know.

Nathan nods.

Nathan: We have to go! They're going to blow this town! Go!

After the Zeus Corps Soldiers get to a clear distance, Barnes equips the Gods Fist Weapon and aims it at the center of Cratersville. The beam ultimately destroys Cratersville and the dying Luke as the explosion is seen by Dante, Killen, James, and Jacob, whose truck is knocked over by the explosion. The underground escape tunnels are caved in during the explosion, but the escaped survivors manage to find cover and reach a safe distance from the explosion.

Barnes: Wow, now that's some fireworks. Okay boys. We're done here.... Drinks are on me tonight.

The Zeus tanks and Helicopter leave the sight of the now destroyed Cratersville.
