Chapter 2: Goodnight Host
"System, is there a way to pick both choices?"
[No, that would defeat the purpose of my existence. I am a Choice-Based System, so you need to choose. It might be difficult, but the choices you make whether good or bad, will help host grow as a person or some bullshit like that.]
Damon felt deflated, having had hope he could do something for the girls, but unfortunately the world doesn't work like that, Damon knew it, but didn't want to accept that fact. But at some point, he knows he will have to accept that the world was just made to fuck with people's lives.
"System?"
[Host...?]
"Why did you choose me?"
[It wasn't me, but my previous master. I made her a choose between a random person on Earth -35 or a Dragon Overlord, at the Interstellar Realm. She didn't like the Overlord, so she chose someone at random here, and it just so happened to be you.]
"So let me get this straight, you just picked me at random with no bigger plans for me, because of a random choice? Am I that pathetic to you?"
[Host certainly is pathetic, but I wouldn't be angry if I were you, after all, you're luckier than most system users, who have been enslaved by their systems to do their bidding.]
Hearing this Damon's heart skipped a beat, and he instantly became wary of the system, but at the same time he couldn't help lament his shitty luck.
At the end of the day, it really didn't matter if the system had ulterior motives, since his life was already shitty. I mean, he has no job, his saved up money will only last another ten years or so if he uses it wisely, he has no powers, his impotent and can't get it up, his depressed and often thinks of killing himself.
So being a slave to a powerful system that will give him powers, help him recover his manhood, make him experience adventures to other worlds different from his own, while providing him with the means to get himself some Dragon babes, didn't seem like too much of a steep price in exchange to escape his miserable life.
After thinking things through, he truly didn't have the right to complain about the System's motives, provided it has one, after all, nothing is ever free, especially when it seems like it.
"System, show my status, and the System Function, if you have one."
[Your status I can show, but as for the System Function, it hasn't been unlocked yet, not until you complete your first mission and earn some System Credits.]
"It's fine, show me my Status then."
[Status]
[Name: Damon]
[Age: 27]
[Rank- F-Ranker]
[Element: Fire (Dormant) (E-rank)
[Fire Skill: Combustion- One Touch to form a curse mark around the bodies of the enemies and with a single snap of a finger, they combust into a charred corpse.]
[Superpower: Sun Summoner (Dormant) (S-rank)]
[Freak Mutation: Fire Breather
[> Type:
[- Dragon Spirit (Dormant) (SSS-Rank)]
[Mana Output: 10% (E-rank)]
Damon was pleasantly shocked to see, his non-Magician genes had more potential than his Magician genes. He already knew all humans have four types of genes in them, but less than 10 percent of the Earth's population are able to awaken even a single gene from their dormancy, as many of them have died trying.
But he was surprised to see, he only had three types of genes, and was missing the beast summoning gene, the only one he always admired, as it allowed it's user to always be at a safe distance, taking non of the risk many other gifted take. As many of their abilities were designed for melee combat, even when they have long range offensive skills. But not the beast summoning, it was the ultimate safe distance gene ability to possess.
"I guess, I have to accept that my luck, is truly shitty," Damon muttered to himself, with a deep exhale that came straight from the soul.
"System, I'm assuming, I will be getting some sort of an upgrade, like awakening all of my dormant genes, right?"
[Of course there will be upgrades, as your mana output sucks. With such little mana output it doesn't matter if you have triple S-rank superpowers, you won't even be able to use them, as the amount of mana needed to use that power would be straining on the body, killing you instantly without the protection of a Mana Aegis.]
Damon didn't know what the hell was a Mana Aegis, but he knew that mana was an important factor for a gifted, as there have been many A and S rank gifted on the news who couldn't cut it, because their mana output was trash, which was worse than being unable to awaken any of the dormant genes.
It was like a starving man being presented a whole buffet of food in front of him, and is unable to eat anything because his a fucking ghost and can't eat shit.
In a way mana works like this, if a person awakens his/her dormant gene, the mana output they have will be providing necessary energy to keep the volatile energies that make up awakened genes from breaking apart and destroying the body.
But when its time to use those awakened genes to use a skill or superpowers mana is needed to feed those gene, in order to keep those volatile energies harmonious, long enough to cast a skill/spell. But those with little mana output aren't able to manage that simple process, because not only do they need mana to keep the volatile energies at bay, they need mana to protect their bodies then enough mana to cast a skill.
And what little mana output Damon has, can barely be considered enough to protect himself from his own powers, especially since his planning on awakening all his genes, something unheard off, because no body can handle those different types of energies at once, as they are destructive and aren't able to exist as one.
"Okay, before you do the upgrades, can you tell me which demands more attention between the choices you gave me, and which has more benefits?"
[I'm impressed.]
"By what?"
[I thought you would choose the world with less risk to preserve your life.]
"Risks! What risks?!"
[I will start to evolution progress, in 10, 9, 8, 7, 6..]
"Stop counting and tell me about the risks?"
[3, 2..]
"What fucking ris..ks..."
[Goodnight Host.]
