Chapter 139: Chapter 139 — High Emotional Intelligence

Nagami didn't answer Otto right away.

He hesitated, eyes narrowing as he looked at Otto—no longer the maddened fanatic from before, but someone who had finally calmed down.

"…You know, Otto," Nagami began, "I'd like to think I understand Kallen fairly well."

C.C. peeled an orange with her slender fingers, then gently fed a segment to Nagami, who continued speaking while chewing.

"She was someone who lived to protect others. When disaster struck, even knowing it would cost her life, she still went without hesitation.

A person like that… she truly was worthy of being called a saint."

"If Kallen really were to come back—and she found out everything you've done in the past five hundred years, the tragedies you caused just to bring her back… what do you think she would do?"

"Maybe the end result would be—"

"I already know," Otto interrupted firmly. "But that's exactly why I want it to happen. That's the Kallen I love. That's my saint."

The light of my life.

Otto's face broke into a radiant smile, fresh and clear as if all burdens had been lifted.

No one knew Kallen better than Otto.

And no one understood the weight of his own sins more than he did.

He never cared about the sacrifices made along the way.

The end justified everything.

To Otto, the world itself was merely a toolbox to achieve his one goal: Kallen's resurrection. If he had to discard it all, so be it.

Of course, he understood—Kallen would never accept this ideology.

She would be devastated to learn he trampled on others' lives, ignored their wishes, and committed atrocities in her name.

She'd be furious—just like the day she learned the things Apocalypse family did and what thing done by him—and would probably slap him across the face again, in anger and heartbreak.

But to Otto… that would be a beautiful outcome.

He didn't seek forgiveness.

He wouldn't run from his sins.

As long as Kallen lived again—nothing else mattered.

That was Otto Apocalypse, the number one Kallen fan in the Honkai world.

"It really does seem like Kallen means more to you than your own life, Mr. Otto," Nagami said softly.

He had always known how important Kallen was to Otto—but now, that quiet intensity radiating from Otto's entire being made Nagami feel something close to... respect.

It was like one of those romance novels where the male lead would sacrifice everything for the heroine.

As a fellow man, just in this moment—putting aside all of Otto's past actions, Nagami saw the brilliance of a soul burning with unwavering devotion.

He saw Otto's resolve.

Everything Otto had done throughout the story—Nagami couldn't even judge it from a bystander's perspective.

Because any answer would ultimately be bound by the limits of human morality.

"That's right," Otto said proudly, his voice filled with unprecedented pride.

His face wore a look of undisguised satisfaction, as if he had just defeated every rival and claimed the number one spot on the Kallen Fantasy leaderboard.

"So," Nagami continued, smiling slyly, "for a woman who holds your entire existence in her hands… what kind of price do you think I should demand?"

He didn't answer directly—he countered with a question, locking eyes with Otto as if to probe his soul.

"Whatever you want. Whatever I have," Otto replied. "No—only what Otto Apocalypse can give."

His voice was theatrical, almost exaggerated—but the determination in it left no room for doubt.

Otto didn't care if Nagami made outrageous demands.

Even if Nagami bled him dry, if it meant Kallen would return, it would still be a bargain.

Exactly the response Nagami had expected.

A smirk tugged slightly at the corner of his lips.

"Well, this might be a little early to bring up," he said, "but I'll go ahead and tell you the price."

Nagami and C.C. turned their gazes to Otto at the same time.

Gold and obsidian eyes met his, voices overlapping—one bright and crisp, the other cool and ethereal:

"The price is... you, Otto Apocalypse."

"From this point forward, you must give everything you are.

Survive the trials of this broken world, and in another world even more ravaged by Honkai, you must fight not for one person, but for everyone.

Fight for happiness. Fight for all that is good in the world."

In the Honkai Impact 3rd universe, if someone possessed the ability to bring back the dead, achieving a perfect "Happy End" wasn't impossible.

If Otto—the supposed final boss in the eyes of Valkyrie players—joined the anti-Honkai faction with Nagami, who wielded powers from beyond the Imaginary Tree, then passing the trial known as civilization's test had a good chance of success.

But Honkai Gakuen 2 was a different beast.

That world's Honkai wasn't a test.

It was pure annihilation and torture.

In the Zero Era of Honkai 2, the organization that stood against the collapse of civilization was the Human Union.

They had created a superweapon called the "War God"—a massive mecha stationed in orbital satellites, built to destroy Honkai beasts.

But then the Will of Honkai casually summoned a planet-sized Honkai beast straight from Centaurus.

Civilization? Game over.

And right now, if Nagami had enough time to prepare, he could wipe out all of human civilization—like scrubbing the Earth clean with a limitless barrage of nukes.

With the immortality granted by the Code, Nagami was undoubtedly a top-tier existence—T0-level in the Honkai Impact 3rd universe.

But clearing Honkai Gakuen 2? That was another matter entirely.

To achieve a perfect ending in that world, brute strength alone wasn't enough.

It would require far more power—and intelligence.

Otto, without a doubt, was a valuable ally.

Clearly unprepared for Nagami's bold declaration, Otto froze.

His usually composed, elegant face briefly showed something rare: genuine surprise.

"…Haha… ha… hahahaha…"

After a moment of stunned silence, Otto let out a laugh—one that carried a strange complexity Nagami hadn't heard before.

"Well?" Nagami asked.

"That's it?" Otto replied, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes," Nagami said casually. "That's all. If this is a deal centered around Kallen, then surely Otto's credibility is… solid, right?"

"Of course, my dear friend." Otto instantly slipped back into his usual laid-back persona, the one he wore when they first met. "Although… destroying Honkai in another world? That's quite the claim you've made."

He chuckled. "So, that so-called 'Sirin' from a parallel world… is she another version of Kiana? And not a bubble universe, but a truly separate world?"

As expected of Otto—he'd already guessed part of it.

That sharp mind never disappointed.

Just how much did he know about the Sea of Quanta and the Imaginary Tree, anyway? Nagami found himself genuinely curious.

"You could say that," Nagami replied. "We'll discuss the specifics after I revive my dear mother-in-law. Can't have you suspecting I'm up to something shady, after all."

"No, no, no," Otto said quickly, a rare hint of urgency in his voice. "As you said—when it comes to Kallen, you can always trust Otto. I would never interfere with your plans."

But even as he said that, Otto realized the deeper implication in Nagami's words.

He slowly stood up, thoughtful green eyes reflecting the faint, unreadable smiles of the boy and girl before him.

With a sigh and a slight smile tugging at the corner of his lips, Otto murmured:

"…I see."

Raising his right hand, he snapped his fingers.

A brilliant flash of golden light burst forth, and from the void emerged a special box—one created using the divine key Void Archives.

With a casual chuckle, Otto opened the box in front of Nagami.

Inside lay two stunning gems, glowing with an unusual, otherworldly light—one deep crimson, the other dark blue with hints of black.

They levitated into the air the moment the lid was opened, each radiating a luminous aura.

"These two gems are a gift," Otto said smoothly. "A token for our first meeting, dear friend.

Should you face any trouble on the path to reviving Cecilia, well… as your friend, isn't it my duty to help ease your burdens?"

Nagami and C.C. simultaneously reached out—Nagami took the Gem of Serenity, and C.C. picked up the Gem of Plague.

Their voices overlapped in perfect harmony, a single sound as if spoken by one soul:

"You make a fair point. Rationally speaking, it can be quite frustrating when a person focused on a singular purpose is interrupted by the trivial annoyances of everyday life."

Talking with someone sharp was always such a pleasure. And just as their words fell, Otto gave a small nod in agreement.

"I feel the same," he said. "Which is why, my friend… I believe you need a maid at your side. What do you think of… Rita?"

"Wait—Rita?" Nagami blinked. "Isn't she one of Schicksal's three S-rank Valkyries? Having her as my maid seems a bit… excessive."

"Oh, not at all, not at all~" Otto waved dismissively.

He glanced at Nagami's suddenly beaming expression and couldn't help but twitch at the corners of his mouth.

"As your friend, this is hardly an issue worth mentioning. And besides, shouldn't I be doing everything I can to help you pursue love without interruption?"

"Actually… now that you mention it…"

See?

Once you found Otto's weakness—once you touched the heart of his Kallen obsession—getting things done was almost too easy.
