Chapter 137: Chapter 137 — The Deal That Will Happen
Nagami narrowed his eyes slightly and gave the quiet little girl beside him a gentle head rub.
Passing her the game controller with a calm smile, he said, "Partner, I need to step out for a bit. I'm counting on you."
"Bronya acknowledges the request."
With a practiced high-five, Bronya nodded firmly, her elegant ringlets bouncing slightly.
Silver Wolf—forever a legend!
"Alright, let's go."
With Himeko nearby, Nagami glanced at the green-haired girl sipping her coffee and casually called out, "C.C., we're heading out."
"Mhm." Though her tone was detached, the casual air between the two didn't go unnoticed.
Under the curious stares of the heiress and true Kiana, C.C. silently walked over and matched pace with Nagami, following Rita out the door.
"Where are you guys going? Dinner's almost ready!"
Wearing an apron and flashing a bright smile, Raiden Mei stepped out from the kitchen.
She was a bit pleased that Rita hadn't insisted on cooking today, giving her full rein of the kitchen.
But the moment she saw Nagami putting on his shoes, her smile wavered slightly.
She tilted her head in confusion.
"You're not staying for dinner?"
"No need to wait for us, Just going to meet a friend."
With a friendly wave to Mei and a quick nod to the others, Nagami strode confidently out the door.
To be honest, Mei's words just now reminded him a little too much of his mom.
Led by Rita, they walked through the still-busy campus, passing a few lingering students, until they entered a small, unassuming shop tucked in the corner.
However, the moment Nagami stepped inside, his eyes lit up.
The place was styled in classic British elegance.
Ornate decorations lined the inner walls, the floor beneath them was polished marble, and from the domed ceiling hung a dazzling crystal chandelier, its light cascading down like a soft, luminous stream.
A bar was set off to one side, and on the walls hung what may or may not have been famous paintings.
The whole setup felt like a noble banquet from medieval Europe.
"I can't believe Saint Freya has a place like this… How did I not know about it?"
"Well, you're always holed up in your dorm gaming. Of course you wouldn't know…"
Rita sighed, facepalming slightly.
She genuinely didn't know how to roast this guy properly anymore.
"Er… fair point."
They made their way to the far end of the lounge.
Rita led Nagami and C.C. to a quiet corner with few guests.
She gestured politely for them to sit, then turned and walked over to a certain golden-haired girl seated alone not far away.
"Well, well… Even the dumb goose is here?"
Nagami's inky black eyes sparkled with surprise as he spoke, just as Rita froze for a second mid-step.
'Dumb goose? Was that supposed to mean Durandal?!'
…Honestly…
Rita shot him a sultry glare over her shoulder, then sauntered gracefully toward Durandal with a flirtatious smile.
She hadn't had the chance to tease—no, connect with Durandal in quite a while.
After constantly losing banter matches against Nagami, the few minor victories she scored—like the one in front of the other girls earlier—were her only consolation lately.
But today, she was determined to recharge her mood by savoring Durandal's flustered reactions.
Just the thought of that adorable bashful expression was enough to curl the corners of her lips into a satisfied smile.
Pure bliss—such is the joy of a scheming maid.
Meanwhile, in the farthest booth, Nagami and C.C. sat down side by side at a table set with tea, wine, and an assortment of fruits.
As Nagami's eyes met a familiar figure across from him, gesturing for them to sit, he and C.C. took their seats without hesitation.
"My friends… should I call you C.C., or Nagami?"
The voice was gentle, with no hidden malice.
Otto's emerald eyes were as clear as fine glass, and the noble smile on his face was courteous and calm.
It was their first direct meeting, yet Otto greeted Nagami with an oddly familiar tone—like speaking to an old acquaintance.
"I figured I couldn't hide it from you forever… but mind telling me how you figured it out?"
C.C. rested her cheek in her palm, her golden eyes calm yet curious.
Her tone was light, but she was clearly impressed.
As expected of someone considered the sharpest mind in the Honkai universe.
"Oh, nothing too special," Otto replied, swirling the wine in his glass. "We had a few of Schicksal's top psychology experts analyze your behavior, and since I've gone through several body swaps myself… let's just say it started as a hunch."
He chuckled softly.
"But I only confirmed it for sure upon meeting you in person."
"I see… so you suspected us because of Void Archives and Fu Hua." Nagami's earlier sense of being observed definitely hadn't been paranoia.
"Hah… You really don't miss a thing."
Otto blinked, raising his brow as if caught slightly off guard by how easily C.C. turned the tables.
"But I am quite curious about your source of intel. Is it some kind of precognitive ability?"
He had considered many theories, but lacked hard evidence for any of them.
If it was some form of precognition, then it wouldn't explain Nagami's precise knowledge of past events.
Such abilities shouldn't be this conveniently reliable.
Yet everything Nagami knew was just too targeted.
"Hmm… You could say that. In a way, it's like prophecy."
Surprised by Otto's bluntness, Nagami decided to be vague but open—revealing the truth wasn't an option.
The story was already too far off from the original plot; canon was practically worthless now.
Classified intel like this was best kept vague.
"What an extraordinary ability," Otto murmured with genuine wonder.
Then, raising his head slightly, he asked again, "A fusion warrior from the Previous Era who's survived until now?"
"Hua told you that?" C.C. smirked, shaking her head.
Her long mint-green hair shimmered as it flowed behind her.
"I'm not some ancient relic, you know."
"Understood." Otto didn't press.
His gaze studied her flawless, porcelain-like face with subtle fascination.
His regal golden eyes flickered faintly.
"This body… it's biological, isn't it?" And not just any biological form either.
"Of course. It's not something you can mass-produce like Soulium-based constructs."
C.C. tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, her pale fingers graceful like jade.
"But I doubt you brought us here to chat about biology. How about we get to the real reason for this meeting?"
Her words were polite, her tone calm—but Otto's eyes hardened slightly, a steel edge hiding behind his gentlemanly expression.
Nagami met that gaze head-on.
Peering into Otto's eyes was like pulling back layer after layer of fog—until he saw it:
Grief.
Regret.
Bitterness.
And… madness.
Otto took a long breath, his fingers briefly trembling as he hid his eyes behind golden bangs.
"My apologies. I seem to have gotten… carried away."
He exhaled, then returned to his usual relaxed tone, though his voice carried a rare note of anticipation.
"My friend, this 'deal I definitely won't refuse'… why don't you explain it to me in detail?"
He was smiling as always—but that slight quiver in his voice betrayed how badly he wanted to know.
Looking at him, C.C. suddenly beamed.
"As you guessed, I possess a method to bring the dead… back to life."
Her golden eyes transformed into shimmering hexagrams, glowing with a mystic light.
"This isn't cloning. It's not reincarnation. It is—true resurrection."
For a brief moment, a shiver ran through the air.
A sharp crack echoed as fine fractures spread across the porcelain teacup Otto was holding.
"I must know more."
His voice was low, almost trembling.
His fists clenched tightly, barely holding something back.
Only when it came to Kallen did Otto ever lose composure like this.
"I believe someone like you would already know about the Imaginary Tree and the true nature of the Honkai, yes?"
"Of course. The eternal moment, the origin of the end, the birthplace of all truth and law. It is the divine itself, and the trials it lays upon civilizations."
His answer came without hesitation.
Otto was sure Nagami already understood that much.
"Truly worthy of being Schicksal's Overseer"
Nagami meant the praise sincerely.
After all, in the original game, Otto himself was the one who explained these truths.
What shocked Nagami was that Otto already knew all of it—even now.
"But the world is infinite," C.C. added, slowly raising her slender white hand.
A multicolored magic circle bloomed above her palm.
"Just because resurrection is impossible in this universe doesn't mean it's impossible in others."
