Chapter 10: Mountainous Region 4
4 years later.
John and the bear had finally reached the bottom after successfully climbing down a 5,000-mile-tall cliff. During those 5 years, the only notable event was the news of Orario falling into a dark age. The previous rulers were kicked out of the city, and the forces of evil rose along with their departure.
Darkness fell upon the city—chaos, death, and the wickedness of mankind were in full display. The filth and beauty of humanity lay exposed.
I stretched my hand to the bear, offering a handshake. "So this is where we part ways."
"Yes, let's meet again," the bear said.
We shared a fist bump and went our separate ways.
My lone journey continues once more, accompanied by the cold wind.
A month later, an arrogant earth dragon was encountered.
Two magic circles appeared on my hands, wrapping around like bracelets. One was brown, the other white.
I clenched my fist and punched the air. A cracking noise began to spread—the atmosphere split like glass.
A powerful earthquake shook the entire mountainous region.
Mountains rose, others crumbled. Avalanches were triggered, and sections of the region collapsed.
The earth dragon causing trouble trembled in fear, not daring to move a muscle.
John walked away without turning back, leaving the terrified dragon behind.
2 months later.
Luck in his side, he found a rare breed of coffee unique to this world. He immediately harvested it—half for cultivation and the other half for drinking.
He used water magic to fill a pot and began boiling it with fire magic. Then he used the hot water to brew the coffee and sat atop a tree, watching the rising sun.
He was enjoying the view when something suddenly caught his eye. It was a tower—ancient in design. A circular-shaped tower over a hundred meters tall, crowned with a sphere at its top. Countless crystalline lines flowed across its surface, beating like a heart.
The tower's foundation stretched deep into the earth, merging with a structure of unimaginable scale.
He scanned the tower but gained nothing. He couldn't decipher the material, the tech, or the purpose of this ancient relic. It was his first time seeing anything like it. He only noticed it visually—had he relied on his other senses or powers, he would have missed it. Only eyesight could perceive its existence.
Even though he couldn't understand its function or mechanics, he could sense its strength. The tower had a toughness so great that even his peak strength couldn't scratch it.
I didn't linger and continued walking.
A year later.
John walked out of the mountainous region and entered the grasslands.
The grass swayed in the wind. Lone trees stood amidst the terrain. The sun was at its peak, and the violet planet dominating the sky remained unchanging and unmoving.
In the distance, a huge black wall stretched across the horizon — the wall that surrounded the Old World. It could be seen in all directions
The sound of birds chirping reached his ears.
He walked leisurely. After covering a mile, he encountered a highway made of bricks with a bluish hue, crafted from an unknown material. The highway was 10 meters wide, with a 2-meter-wide sidewalk on each edge.
Countless invisible and undetectable runes were engraved into it—the highway if it was graded by me this thing us at least at the ??? Level or beyond it, I wasn't sure because I couldn't fully read its strengths.
The highway was enveloped in a barrier that protected both the travelers and the structure itself from all harm.
There were many mechanisms embedded in the highway, but I won't talk about them—there are just too many and a lot I didn't know.
John followed the highway, walking along the sidewalks.
In total, more than 20 years had passed since I began my journey from the mountainous region to the grasslands. And now, I am near my destination.
In the last seven years of my journey, I received some news about the end of the dark age and the demise of the Astrea Familia. Orario was at peace once more. The two new rulers of Orario were finally crowned as the dominant forces in the city.
10 miles before reaching the city.
The city of Orario came into view in the distance, its no longer a dot in distance. I had already seen it back from that tall cliff in the mountainous region, so there was no surprise when I laid eyes on its majestic walls and the towering Tower Barrier resting at the city's center.
The city had a circular layout, surrounded by 50-meter-tall, 30-meter-thick walls. It was 500 miles in diameter, divided by 8 main streets like a pizza—forming eight triangular districts.
At the very center stood a hundreds-of-meters-tall Gray wall as a base. Upon it rested the Tower Barrier, piercing through the multi-layered Dimension Barrier and reaching the barrier that enveloped the world's atmosphere. This wall was different. It was part of the Tower Barrier—and it was unbreakable. Even a ??? level entity couldn't scratch it.
5 miles before reaching the city.
The grassy fields transitioned into vast farmlands and villages. But upon closer inspection, they weren't villages—they were Familia bases, owned by the farming Familias.
The highway grew crowded with people heading toward the city. Everyone moved in the same direction.
John looked ahead and saw the 50-meter wall and the gate.
The city had four gates, located at the cardinal directions. The gate before him was the South Gate.
John spread his magic sense to check whether the highway continued into the city—and it did. All highways converged at the city center, where the smaller Tower Barrier stood and where the dungeon entrance lay.
I looked around, observing the people nearby. There were many different races—Elves, Dwarves, Beastmen, Amazonesses, Pallums, Humans, and more. Some walked. Others rode carriages, wagons, and horses.
While everyone minded their own business, some idiots tried to cause trouble.
A group of people who looked like adventurers began harassing others, demanding money.
The crowd looked at them like fools and refused. In their eyes, those adventurers were idiots courting death.
It was already common knowledge that causing trouble on the highway was the worst mistake you could make in your life.
Seeing the reactions, the would-be adventurers grew enraged and attacked. But before their strike landed, the highway morphed—not far from them, two golems rose from the ground. Each golem was ??? level. Alongside them, a massive door rose from the highway.
The golems knocked down the troublemakers, dragged them toward the door, opened it, and threw them inside before sealing it shut.
After finishing their task, the golems submerged back into the highway.
Order was restored.
"Isn't that too overkill? A ???-level entity dealing with a normal human — isn't that despair itself? It's like asking an ant to fight a dragon that could swallow all of existence in a single bite."
"Obviously, the ant was the human, while the dragon was the ???-level entity."
