Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 309 - Family Reunion

Lin Ruihai rushed to the two girls, intending to get some answers, but an extraordinary scene unfolded around them. Then, both girls fainted. Fortunately, he managed to catch them in time, one in each arm.

However, the girl on his left was quickly taken away by a foreign boy.

Lin Ruihai was reluctant to hand her over, but before he could react, the girl was already in the boy’s arms. With another girl still in his arms, he had no way to compete with the boy.

Since their identities were unclear, Lin Ruihai had no grounds to contest the matter. It was evident that they had come together.

Song Changlong also moved closer to Lin Ruihai, gazing longingly at the girl in his arms. Lin Ruihai didn’t bother to be polite; there was no way he would hand his sister over to Song Changlong.

After a hurried check, Lin Kexin’s body temperature, heartbeat, and pulse were all normal, which allowed Lin Ruihai to breathe a sigh of relief. He then carried her up and glanced at the girl in the foreign boy’s arms. The foreign boy had also conducted a quick check, and from his expression, it seemed that the other girl’s condition was similar to Lin Kexin’s.

The fainting of the two girls was undoubtedly related to the mysterious apparition of the jade pendant. While they were deeply concerned, they couldn’t think of a solution for now.

Lin Ruihai said to the foreign boy, “Let’s take them into the office first. I’ll call a doctor to check on them.”

The boy, Hebrew Adam, had confirmed that Ruo Manni was unconscious for unknown reasons but showed no significant health issues. Hearing Lin Ruihai’s suggestion, he followed him into the office, carrying Ruo Manni and sitting her down on a chair.

Lin Ruihai laid Lin Kexin on a long sofa, and Song Changlong immediately fetched a blanket to cover her.

Lin Ruihai glanced at Song Changlong but said nothing. Just as he was about to make a call to summon someone, Ruo Manni let out a soft moan and slowly woke up.

Hebrew Adam immediately asked, “Manni, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell? Why did you faint just now?”

Why did she faint? Ruo Manni held her forehead, recalling how she had been overwhelmed by the shocking revelations.

At that moment, Lin Kexin also slowly woke up. Like Ruo Manni, she held her forehead, wearing an expression of severe emotional distress.

Song Changlong helped her sit up and asked with concern, “How are you feeling?”

Seeing the deep worry in Song Changlong’s eyes, Lin Kexin felt a pang in her heart. If he knew that she wasn’t truly Lin Kexin, how would he react?

“I’m fine,” Lin Kexin replied, glancing at Ruo Manni.

Ruo Manni also said, “I’m fine now. Just earlier, it was…”

She gave a bitter smile, unsure how to explain. Lin Kexin mirrored her reaction. The two exchanged a glance, both feeling as if fate was playing a cruel joke on them.

“What’s going on with you two? Can you tell us clearly?” Lin Ruihai finally couldn’t hold back and asked.

Ruo Manni’s gaze toward Lin Ruihai had changed. This was not the Lin Ruihai from a parallel timeline—this was her real older brother, the one who had cared for her deeply for over 20 years.

“At first, I tried hard to keep it a secret, but it was impossible. They quickly realized I wasn’t you. They know you too well,” Lin Kexin said, a trace of envy in her voice.

Ruo Manni didn’t find this surprising. Her relationship with her family had always been close, and noticing something was wrong was only natural.

“Just as you guessed, she is the real Lin Kexin. We switched places,” Lin Kexin explained to Lin Ruihai.

“Brother…” Ruo Manni wanted to speak properly, but she barely got out one word before choking up, unable to continue. Tears blurred her vision as she struggled to hold back her emotions.

“Kexin, you’re really Kexin,” Lin Ruihai said, still in disbelief.

“Yes!” Ruo Manni nodded vigorously, her tear-filled eyes brimming with the desire to throw herself into her brother’s arms.

However, as soon as Ruo Manni moved, Hebrew Adam tightened his arms around her, stopping her in her tracks. Only then did Ruo Manni realize she was still sitting on Hebrew Adam’s lap.

Though Hebrew Adam was a brilliant scholar, he had only been learning Mandarin for a few days. He could manage basic conversations, but anything more complex left him confused.

Still, the young prince was intelligent. Even though he only understood bits and pieces of the two girls’ conversation, he could piece together the general idea of what was happening.

If this were still the world they originally came from, Hebrew Adam might not have been so quick to accept something this unbelievable. However, since arriving in this world, many of Manni’s strange behaviors suddenly made sense when connected to this revelation.

The prince’s first reaction was discomfort. If Manni truly belonged to this world, as the other girl implied, she had parents and siblings here.

Thus, when Manni tried to throw herself into her brother’s arms, Hebrew Adam instinctively stopped her.

Ruo Manni hadn’t expected that she would actually return to her world, let alone see her eldest brother, whom she thought she’d never meet again. Overwhelmed with emotion, she wanted to rush over and hug him tightly, to cry her heart out—but she was stopped.

When Ruo Manni looked up, even through her tear-blurred vision, she could clearly see Hebrew Adam’s dark expression and the stormy atmosphere surrounding him. His hands were tightly wrapped around her waist.

“Hebrew!” Ruo Manni finally realized she had been so caught up in the moment that she completely forgot he was still there. She had spilled everything to Lin Kexin without thinking, and now she wasn’t sure how much he had understood.

“Speak properly,” Hebrew Adam said firmly, refusing to let go. Manni was his—this was something he would never allow to change.

Earlier, when Lin Ruihai saw his sister being held by this foreign boy, he had already sensed the boy’s jealousy. Although it made him uncomfortable, he hadn’t been in a position to comment.

Now that he knew she was indeed his sister, the situation felt entirely different. Frowning, he glared at the boy. “She’s my sister. Your behavior is far too inappropriate.”

The heartwarming moment of siblings reuniting was abruptly interrupted.

Lin Kexin, who had been watching Lin Ruihai’s overwhelming joy at seeing his real sister, felt a dull ache in her heart.

In her original world, her mother had already passed away, and she was an orphan. She believed no one there had ever realized Ruo Manni wasn’t the original Ruo Manni.

In this world, although Father Lin, Mother Lin, and Brother Lin treated her very kindly and even said they saw her as another daughter, she knew deep down that she was nothing more than a stand-in.

Now, with the foreign boy disrupting everything, the atmosphere became awkward. Lin Kexin found the situation somewhat amusing, and her sadness lightened considerably.

“I’m her fiancé,” Hebrew Adam declared to Lin Ruihai, enunciating each word carefully to assert his claim.

Although his Mandarin wasn’t very fluent, the meaning of his words was clear to everyone.

Lin Kexin’s smile froze instantly, as she suddenly recalled who this boy might be.

Although she didn’t know how Ruo Manni had returned from the interstellar dimension to this timeline, the surge of information she had just received made her certain Ruo Manni hadn’t been back for long.

For this boy to confidently claim to be Ruo Manni’s fiancé meant they must have known each other for quite some time. Moreover, his appearance bore a striking resemblance to someone from the Gus Empire in the interstellar world.

“Who is he?” Lin Ruihai and Lin Kexin asked Ruo Manni in unison.

Ruo Manni glanced at the stubborn prince who refused to let her go and said helplessly, “This is my fiancé, the second prince of the Gus Empire.”

The second prince of the Gus Empire? Lin Ruihai immediately recalled what his new sister had said earlier—she wasn’t from this world but from an alternate one.

Now that both girls had explained their souls had been swapped, it meant his real sister had returned from that other world, and this imperial prince had come along with her.
