Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Going Out with Zi Yan!
Chapter 122: Going Out with Zi Yan!
In the skies above the Inner Academy, two figures streaked across with a faint purple hue. Many students below caught sight of them, but no one paid much attention. Flying wasn't prohibited in the Inner Academy, and instructors and elders often zipped through the air.
Still, there were always some students who couldn't help but look up with envy. After all, some of those instructors had been promoted directly from the Strong Ranking, and it was impossible for the newer students not to admire them.
Everyone dreamed of breaking free from the constraints of the earth and soaring freely through the sky.
From a pavilion, the First Elder Su Qian chuckled softly. "Those two little ones…"
Truthfully, he was quite pleased. When he first met Zi Yan, she was just a tiny, dirt covered little thing, resembling a wild child. She couldn't even speak, only roaring like a beast.
It took several months of raising her in the Inner Academy for her to learn to speak properly. Only then did Su Qian realize that Zi Yan was likely a uniquely gifted magical beast in her true form an extraordinary one at that, judging by her intelligence.
Unfortunately, life in the Inner Academy hadn't been easy for her either. Among the twenty something year old youths, Zi Yan, despite her immense strength, stood out awkwardly due to her petite figure and youthful appearance. She had no friends and was feared by others.
This was likely why she so desperately wanted to grow up. Deep down, her desire wasn't merely to grow taller but to integrate into the Inner Academy. Perhaps being called the "Brute Force Queen" wasn't a title she truly enjoyed.
But now things were different. She had a friend a good one and they seemed to be getting along just fine.
A look of relief appeared on Su Qian's face. The only lingering concern in his heart was the unruly Fallen Heart Flame sealed within the Heavenly Flame Refining Tower. If that problem could be resolved, it would be a great relief.
...
"Zi Yan, where are we headed?" Lu Bu asked, gazing down at the vast expanse of mountains below them.
To be honest, Lu Bu wasn't very familiar with the areas surrounding the Inner Academy. He only had a general sense of direction north, south, east, and west. Beyond that, he was clueless.
"Hmm… let me think…" Zi Yan raised her small, fair hand to shield her eyes from the sunlight, tilting her head left and right as she scanned the horizon.
After a brief moment of thought, she pointed in a direction and said in a cheerful, clear voice, "That way! I remember there's a great treasure over there, but I couldn't beat the creature guarding it, so I could only watch. Ugh, so frustrating!"
"Lead the way. I'll help you take it down!" Lu Bu smiled. Zi Yan had pointed north toward the northern region of the Inner Academy.
That area was a boundless forest, full of mountains. Even the fearless troublemakers of the Black Corner Region rarely ventured in that direction.
"Hehe…" Zi Yan's little eyebrows perked up as she dove toward the forest below, with Lu Bu following closely behind. Their destination was a low lying area within the forest.
However, as they approached from the sky, Lu Bu suddenly slowed down. His Purple Cloud Wings flapped gently, reducing his speed until he finally hovered in place.
"Lu Bu?" Zi Yan raised her eyebrows in confusion.
"Something's up something big," Lu Bu said, his expression turning serious.
"Huh?" Zi Yan bit her small white teeth, puffing up her cheeks in frustration. "What is it? We're not going to turn around and run, are we?"
"No, it hasn't come to that. We're still going, but… it seems there are Inner Academy students down there too," Lu Bu said, his tone a mix of surprise and curiosity. It wasn't something he had expected.
"Let's go down and take a look. Be careful, and don't rush in recklessly."
"Yeah, yeah, I got it…"
...
In the forest below, the terrain was mostly even, with only slight undulations. However, to the north, the ground began to dip, forming a small lowland area.
At the center of the lowland was a dense thicket of shrubs so thick that even if someone stood on top of them, the branches wouldn't bend.
Yet, upon closer inspection, it was clear that these weren't shrubs at all but countless intertwined vines, brimming with life and vibrant greenery.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Not far from the thicket, two figures were locked in battle. Dou Qi surged wildly, and energy waves swept across the ground, leaving deep scars in their wake.
"Impressive. Judging by your strength, you must be on the Strong Ranking of the Inner Academy, huh?" a mocking voice rang out. It was calm and full of confidence, showing no sign of strain despite the intense battle.
The speaker was a young man dressed in white, appearing to be about twenty seven or twenty eight years old. His body radiated a faint purple black Dou Qi, and as his hands moved, subtle energy vortexes appeared and dissipated, effortlessly neutralizing the oncoming attacks.
His opponent was a young man clad in a gray robe, proudly wearing the Inner Academy emblem.
The Inner Academy student wielded a massive battle axe, roaring furiously as he swung it repeatedly. Each strike unleashed fiery red energy, but none of his attacks could penetrate the white robed man's defenses.
Not far from their battle, the corpses of two massive magical beasts lay sprawled on the ground. Pools of crimson blood stained the lowland, and the air was thick with the stench of death.
While the white robed man seemed to have the upper hand, the Inner Academy student was clearly at his limit. Despite giving it his all, he couldn't overcome his opponent and he couldn't escape either.
"Save your strength, kid. With your measly nine star Dou Ling level, you're not getting away!" the white robed man laughed.
"Still, for someone your age, your talent is impressive almost comparable to mine. Why not join my sect? Staying in the Inner Academy is a waste of your potential."
"Shut up, you Black Corner Region scum!" the Inner Academy student roared, his eyes bloodshot with fury. His massive axe unleashed another wave of ferocious attacks as he shouted, "Do you know how many heads of Black Corner Region scum my axe has chopped off? You garbage think you can recruit me? Dream on!"
"Stubborn fool," the white robed man sneered, lifting his palm with a cold smile. His movements were as graceful as a butterfly, effortlessly evading the axe before pressing his palm against the student's chest.
Bang!
The student staggered backward, his axe embedding itself into the ground as he struggled to stay upright.
"Ugh!" He coughed up a mouthful of blood, his face turning pale.
"I'll ask you one last time: will you join my Black Emperor Sect? Refuse, and I'll feed your corpse to the magical beasts here!"
The white robed man stood tall, looking down with a cold smile. His hands radiated faint purple black energy vortexes.
"Pfft!" The Inner Academy student spat, his voice laced with venom. "Black Emperor Sect? Never heard of it! Even dogs wouldn't join you!"
"Well, you've got guts," the white robed man sneered, his eyes flashing with killing intent. He raised his hand, preparing to strike.
But just then, a gust of wind roared through the air above them.
Startled, the white robed man looked up to see two figures descending from the sky.
"Cough… Brute F cough, cough, I mean, Zi Yan?" The Inner Academy student's face briefly lit up with excitement but quickly turned pale again, equal parts joy and fear.
Hearing this, Zi Yan glanced down and frowned. "Huh? You're… uh… that guy, right?"
Scratching her head, Zi Yan furrowed her little brows. The student looked familiar, but she couldn't remember his name. All she ever thought about was finding and eating medicinal herbs. Apart from Lu Bu, she hadn't bothered remembering anyone else.
"Well, this is interesting," the white robed man said with an amused smirk as he eyed Lu Bu and Zi Yan.
"Hey, you two the kid and the little one," he called out. "I'm Mo Ya, Young Master of the Black Emperor Sect. You both have potential. Why not pledge allegiance to me?"
"Huh?" Lu Bu raised an eyebrow. That name… it sounded vaguely familiar.
