Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Xun'er's Thoughts
"Alright!" Xiao Bai quickly stepped forward, grasping both girls' wrists to separate the two who were smiling while hiding daggers behind their backs.
Xun'er and Xiao Yi Xian, upon seeing this, naturally released each other's hands and turned to look at the culprit with expressionless faces.
Under their scrutinizing stares, Xiao Bai felt his scalp tingle. Helplessly, he said, "Let's sit down and talk."
"Hmph!" X2
"Big Sister Xiao Yi Xian, won't you invite Xun'er in for a seat?" Xun'er turned to Xiao Yi Xian, her previously cold face instantly transforming into a smile as she spoke lightly.
"Miss Xun'er, please!" Xiao Yi Xian responded with a smile, her delicate face blooming like a spring breeze, as she extended her hand invitingly.
Watching the two suddenly acting so friendly, Xiao Bai was dumbfounded. If he wasn't mistaken, hadn't they nearly come to blows just moments ago?
"Xiao Bai gege, you can stay outside!" As she passed by him, Xun'er shot him a glance and said coolly, "Xun'er knows your soul power is strong. But while we talk, you are not allowed to eavesdrop!"
"Fine." Xiao Bai hesitated for a moment before nodding in agreement, then turned and walked toward the large boulder where he usually cultivated.
Xiao Yi Xian was a bit surprised by Xiao Bai's reaction today. She knew his personality well—though he usually appeared calm and gentle, he was actually extremely proud and domineering at heart, unwilling to suffer the slightest grievance.
Xun'er stared at his retreating figure for a moment. A flash of heartache crossed her eyes. Today was the only day in all these years that she had spoken coldly to him, and he silently endured it.
He was suffering, but so was she!
Having grown up with him, she knew better than anyone just how proud Xiao Bai was deep down. It was only for her sake that he would humble himself like this. If anyone else treated him this way, he would've long since walked away without a second thought.
"Let's go." After a long pause, Xun'er forced a faint smile and spoke softly to Xiao Yi Xian.
Xiao Yi Xian studied the girl before her. From her earlier expression, it was clear just how deeply she cared for Xiao Bai. No wonder he obeyed her so readily. Sighing inwardly, Xiao Yixian felt an inexplicable pang of guilt and nodded.
Inside the thatched cottage.
The two sat facing each other.
Xiao Yi Xian gracefully poured a cup of tea and gently pushed it toward Xun'er, speaking in a soft voice,
"Actually... you don't need to be so wary of me."
Xun'er pinched the teacup with her slender fingers, taking a small sip. Hearing this, she frowned slightly, sensing there was more to come, and remained silent.
"I have no future with him, or rather, the future is very uncertain," Xiao Yi Xian hesitated before lowering her eyes.
"Why?" Xun'er raised her beautiful eyes, surprised.
"Have you heard of the Calamity Poison Body?" Xiao Yi Xian sighed, her expression darkening.
"Calamity Poison Body?!" Xun'er tightened her grip on the teacup, her pupils shrinking slightly as she exclaimed, "You mean you…?"
Recalling the wisp of gray mist she had seen earlier during their exchange, she immediately understood—the girl before her was indeed a Calamity Poison Body. Otherwise, a mere Dou Zhe, even one who cultivated poison techniques, wouldn't possess such an eerie aura.
She knew of this constitution. Those with the Calamity Poison Body rarely met a peaceful end—either eliminated before their prime or left to suffer in isolation and agony once the poison body fully matured.
"That's right. So now you understand why I said you don't need to be so guarded against me." Xiao Yi Xian's eyes lowered, hiding the faint gloom in her gaze.
A long silence followed.
"Does he know?" Xun'er pursed her lips before suddenly asking.
"He knows!" Xiao Yi Xian had already composed herself from her earlier sadness. A tender yet playful glint flashing in her eyes as she admitted frankly "Not only does he know, but he also went to find a way to control the poison body! But..."
"That method is far too difficult, with little hope of success. I don't have much confidence in it and didn't want to disappoint him, so I've never shown any hesitation in front of him!"
"In that regard, you really don't need to doubt him. I know him— if he didn't have some degree of confidence, he wouldn't have mentioned it at all," Xun'er reassured her.
Xiao Yi Xian was stunned and asked, "Why?"
"Confused as to why I'd give you confidence?" Xun'er smiled faintly, though her expression carried a trace of sorrow. "Do you know how furious and disappointed I was when I found out about you and him?"
"But what could I do? Could I really throw a tantrum in front of him, force him to kill you or leave you?"
Xun'er continued, her tone slightly resigned. "Honestly, I've been agonizing over this for days. Some people even hoped I'd just walk away from him. But I know that's impossible. Since that's the case, some things simply have to be faced."
"So, you came today to…" Xiao Yi Xian suddenly felt a little nervous. Before, she had been calm and indifferent because she didn't understand the situation, but now…
"Can you tell me what happened after he got injured?" Xun'er didn't answer her question but instead asked about something that had been puzzling her for days.
Ling Ying's investigation had stopped at the Ten Thousand Medicine Pavilion. After that, unless Xiao Bai spoke up himself, only the girl before her would know what had happened.
"He didn't tell you?" Xiao Yixian blinked in surprise. Seeing Xun'er shake her head, she replied softly, "He lost his memory."
"Lost his memory?!" Xun'er stood up suddenly, and some of the doubts in her heart were instantly cleared. After a while, she slowly sat back down and muttered to herself, "No wonder… no wonder…"
She had wondered why, when Xiao Bai was already moving freely at the Ten Thousand Medicine Pavilion, he hadn't returned to the Xiao family despite knowing she was angry and why. Instead, he had left with Xiao Yixian and stayed away for days.
This had been one of the biggest reasons for her dissatisfaction with Xiao Bai these past few days.
It was also what she most wanted to understand. If there hadn't been another reason—if, under those circumstances, he had still chosen to flirt with another girl—then she would've had to seriously reconsider their relationship.
"When those mercenaries brought him in, he was unconscious and didn't wake until the next day. When he did, he didn't even remember his own name. Though unconscious, he did say your name a few times."
"Later, I was pressured by the owner of the Ten Thousand Medicine Pavilion and brought him here. Then one night, he suddenly regained his memory. It seemed like he had something urgent to do and left in a hurry. What happened after that... I assume you already know."
Xun'er nodded, a faint smile appearing on her lips. Now she fully understood—the reason he had left in such a rush that night was because of her.
She could now be certain that things weren't as she had feared these past few days. Xiao Bai hadn't stopped caring about her.
"Now I can answer your earlier question. The reason I came today was to ask for your help." Having resolved some of her worries, Xun'er revealed her purpose for coming.
In fact, there were several possible outcomes for her visit today, and she had prepared for all of them.
One was to confirm Xiao Bai's feelings, and the other was to confirm Xiao Yi Xian's.
But fortunately, the worst outcome didn't happen.
Noticing Xiao Yixian's confusion, Xun'er continued, "Due to my own circumstances, I might not always be able to stay by his side. I want you to follow him in the future and help me keep an eye on him."
"Make sure he doesn't... get too close to other women." As she spoke the last words, Xun'er seemed to recall something, her tone tinged with resentment.
If that scoundrel were left unchecked after she left, who knew how many women might flock to him? With Xiao Yi Xian around, at least he'd have some restraint.
