Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Sea of Magma
When Xiao Yan realized there was a possibility that a Heavenly Flame might be hidden within the magma, a surge of excitement welled up in his chest. However, he didn't rush to investigate it right away. Instead, he first focused on fully recovering his condition. Only after restoring himself to peak state did he return to the small village to retrieve Qing Lin.
Originally, Xiao Yan had planned to head into Rock Desert City to meet his two older brothers and leave them some techniques and Dou Skills. But now that he'd sensed traces of a Heavenly Flame, he decisively changed his plans. As for Qing Lin, he worried that leaving her behind alone might put her in danger.
In the end, his concern turned out to be unnecessary. The people in this life seemed far more kind-hearted than in his past life. If it had been before, a group of desperate refugees encountering a little girl like Qing Lin might've thought nothing of treating her like livestock. But here, because she had come with the person who saved the village, the survivors held her in high regard—so much so that Qing Lin herself felt a bit unaccustomed to their respect.
When she saw Xiao Yan return safely, Qing Lin breathed a sigh of relief. Earlier, she had sensed a powerful aura even stronger than Moba Si's appearing near Rock Desert City, and she'd been praying for Xiao Yan's safety ever since. Of course, she didn't know that the aura belonged to Queen Medusa. She had only vaguely perceived it through the unique abilities granted by her Snake-Person bloodline and the Jade Snake Three Flower Pupils.
Because night had already fallen, Xiao Yan chose to rest for the night in the small village. While meditating, his Dou Qi cultivation rose naturally, and he smoothly broke through to the level of a three-star Dou Wang.
This breakthrough came as no surprise. His intense training in the desert had already pushed him to the peak of the two-star Dou Wang level. If he had continued meditating for just a few more days, he would have advanced. The fierce battle with Queen Medusa had pushed his body to its limit, and although it had consumed nearly all his energy, it also helped refine his Dou Qi even further. That was why, after his recovery, his strength advanced without resistance.
After sensing the renewed strength flowing through his body, Xiao Yan exhaled slowly. Gaining strength was always an uplifting feeling—especially at a crucial moment like this, just before seeking out a Heavenly Flame. Every ounce of strength increased his chances of succeeding.
The next morning, just as the first light of dawn appeared, Xiao Yan and Qing Lin said their farewells to the villagers and set off toward the site of the Heavenly Flame. According to his spiritual perception and the map's guidance, the target was located somewhere beneath Rock Desert City. Because he had wielded the Heavy Xuan Ruler during the battle, Xiao Yan specifically stashed it away to avoid being recognized and causing unnecessary trouble.
His two brothers were still training in Rock Desert City, where they'd apparently founded a mercenary group and were doing quite well. But Xiao Yan didn't plan on visiting them. Their fledgling group wouldn't be much help to him now, and when it came to something as sensitive as a Heavenly Flame, the fewer who knew about it, the better. He could always visit them after everything was over.
Soon, Xiao Yan and Qing Lin arrived at their destination: a seemingly ordinary stretch of flat desert. On the surface, it looked no different from any other part of the desert. But with his powerful soul perception, Xiao Yan could clearly sense the scorching energy hidden beneath the sand.
"This is the place," Xiao Yan said as he gazed at the ground before him.
Qing Lin blinked in confusion as she looked around at the barren surroundings. "This is the place you were looking for, Young Master? It doesn't seem special at all…"
"Don't be fooled. What we're looking for isn't on the surface—it's underground," Xiao Yan chuckled, patting her lightly on the head.
"I'll go find a shovel," she offered, about to dash off.
But Xiao Yan stopped her with a shake of his head. "If we relied on digging, who knows how long it'd take. Let your Young Master handle this."
He reached out and pulled Qing Lin into his arms. Then, with a light stomp of his foot, the ground beneath them gave way. A massive hole opened up, and the two of them fell downward. Fortunately, the area was deserted at this hour, so no one saw the two children vanish into the earth—otherwise, it would've caused quite a stir.
The hole didn't remain long. Soon after they dropped, the desert winds blew sand back over it, erasing any trace of the disturbance. This was all due to Xiao Yan's control of his Heavenly Flame. Back at the Scorpion Tomb in the Jia Ma Empire, he had used a similar method to create an escape tunnel.
The method was simple. He concentrated the flame's power at his feet and used its terrifying heat to melt the ground beneath him. At the same time, he wrapped himself and Qing Lin in protective Dou Qi, preventing injuries from sharp stones, and burned a path straight downward. Whether someone later stumbled into the pit was none of his concern.
The descent didn't take long. After a few minutes, light returned as they approached the end of the tunnel. A wave of blistering heat surged toward them—at the bottom of the tunnel lay an ocean of magma, and they were now right above it.
As they were about to fall in, Qing Lin's cheeks turned pale with fear. At that moment, Xiao Yan spread his Dou Qi wings, catching them both midair. He landed gently on a nearby rock ledge and carefully set her down.
"Are you alright, Qing Lin?" he asked.
"I'm fine, Young Master Xiao Yan," she replied, shaking her head. Her eyes, however, were wide with awe as she gazed at the endless sea of lava before them. "I never imagined something like this could exist beneath the desert…"
"The fire attribute energy here is far denser than anywhere on the surface," Xiao Yan said, his eyes shining with delight as he looked over the churning magma. He could feel Flame Mantra automatically operating the moment he entered. If he trained here, his strength would improve even faster.
What's more, with the power of this magma sea, he could finally begin cultivating the Little Glazed Golden Body. In other words, even if there was no Heavenly Flame here, just staying would be worth it. But more importantly, when he entered, the Nine Nether Illusion Flame inside his body suddenly pulsed. That only happened in the presence of something related to a Heavenly Flame.
In other words, this underground sea of magma truly contained traces of a Heavenly Flame!
