Chapter 148: Chapter 148: The Mo Tie Mercenary Group of the New Desert City

Chapter 148: The Mo Tie Mercenary Group of the New Desert City

Everyone was stunned as they watched Wu Tian casually swat away a fourth tier magical beast with a single effortless strike. Their eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

That was the very beast that had been relentlessly chasing them across such a long distance! And yet, this young man had disposed of it as if it were nothing.

Who the hell is this guy?

He clearly wasn't a serpent person he didn't have a snake tail.

Would a human Dou Wang really dare to step into serpent territory?

The mercenaries were utterly bewildered, staring at Wu Tian as if he were some kind of divine entity.

Wu Tian had already expected this reaction. The moment he chose to make a move, he knew it would cause a stir.

Besides, this was his own territory there was no need for him to hide his identity.

He had deliberately chosen to enter through the city gate to inspect the new desert city, assessing its defenses and overall structure.

And from what he had just seen, security was far too weak. That fourth tier magical beast had nearly wiped out the mercenaries, and a Dou Ling expert wouldn't have reacted in time.

Had he not been there, the Mo Tie Mercenary Group would have been completely annihilated.

No wonder this city required two Dou Wang experts, Yin Shi and Moba Si, to guard it.

Meanwhile, the serpent tribe soldiers stationed at the gate suddenly rubbed their eyes in disbelief upon seeing Wu Tian.

The next moment, their eyes widened in shock, and they immediately dropped to their knees, trembling as they shouted:

"We pay our respects to the Guardian Elder!"

"Thud! Thud! Thud!"

The Mo Tie mercenaries froze for a moment. Then, as realization hit them, their legs gave out, and they collapsed to the ground in terror.

This young man… was the Guardian Elder of the serpent tribe?!

He was the strongest person in the Jia Ma Empire and he had just saved them!

The lead mercenary, now looking as if he was suffering from severe constipation, recalled how he had casually addressed Wu Tian as 'little brother' earlier.

I'm dead… even if I had 800 lives, it wouldn't be enough to survive this…

Wu Tian glanced at the serpent soldiers and said indifferently, "Get up. Also, help them stand."

The mercenary leader felt a wave of relief wash over him. If he had drunk any more water earlier, he might have pissed himself in fear by now.

Wu Tian then walked up to the lead mercenary and asked, "Is your commander named Xiao Ding?"

"Y yes! Yes, yes, yes!" The mercenary nodded frantically, his voice trembling.

Wu Tian sighed helplessly. Did he really look that scary?

He was clearly a handsome, kind, and approachable young man!

Why are they so terrified?

"You," Wu Tian pointed at another mercenary. "Lead me to your mercenary group."

"Huh?"

The mercenary blinked in shock before hurriedly nodding like a pecking chicken. Without hesitation, he turned and began leading the way into the city.

As Wu Tian stepped into the city, he immediately noticed that it was far larger than the other desert settlements.

The walls were significantly thicker, and the defensive fortifications were much stronger compared to the other desert cities.

Inside, serpent tribe soldiers patrolled the streets, maintaining order.

A Dou Ling level serpent warrior quickly approached Wu Tian, preparing to pay his respects.

However, before he could, Wu Tian waved his hand dismissively and said, "No need for formalities. Just focus on guarding the city, and you'll be rewarded. What's your name?"

"Reporting to the Guardian Elder, I am Huo Jian!"

"Huo Jian? Good name. You've done well very well!"

Wu Tian could immediately tell that this Dou Ling expert had made the right call earlier.

He hadn't rushed to save the mercenaries instead, he had prioritized the safety of the city.

Compared to a few mercenaries, the newly built city was far more important.

Wu Tian was no bleeding heart saint. He understood the difference between what was worth saving and what wasn't.

If that young mercenary hadn't warned him, he wouldn't have bothered rescuing them.

After all, mercenaries lived and died by the sword they knew the risks.

Seeing Wu Tian's approval, Huo Jian's eyes lit up with excitement.

My time to rise has come!

Following the mercenary guide, Wu Tian headed toward the southern district of the city.

As they turned a street corner, a large estate came into view almost as massive as the Xiao Clan's compound in Wu Tan City.

A flag swayed in the breeze, displaying bold, iron clad characters:

"Mo Tie Mercenary Group"

The rugged, bloodstained warriors standing at the entrance were built like human war machines.

Their sharp eyes swept across passersby like hunters searching for prey.

The scent of blood and steel hung around them men who lived by the sword, ready to kill or be killed at any moment.

Seeing their returning comrades, one of the guards stepped forward and asked, "Xue Lan? Why do you all look so battered?"

"It's nothing."

Xue Lan forced a bitter smile and waved dismissively.

Then, noticing his terrified commander, he chuckled and asked, "Are the two commanders inside?"

"Yeah, they're in a meeting with the leaders of two other mercenary groups."

The guard nodded, but then narrowed his eyes, glancing between the serpent warriors and Wu Tian.

Something felt… off.

Mercenaries never received help from the serpent tribe let alone personal escorts.

Right now, two Dou Wang experts were away, leaving only one Dou Ling expert to guard the city.

Yet, the three strongest mercenary groups in the region had no one beyond the Da Dou Shi level.

So how the hell did these guys get the serpent soldiers to carry them back?!

Still, the guard was smart enough not to ask questions.

When you live by the sword, knowing too much could get you killed.

Wu Tian followed Xue Lan through a few corridors, noticing that there were no maids anywhere.

Huh? A bunch of men living together without female servants? How do they even survive?

As they neared their destination, some unlucky fools tried to block their path.

But the serpent soldiers swiftly cleared the way, allowing Wu Tian to walk forward without breaking stride.

Soon, they reached a large hall, where a conversation was taking place.

Inside, three mercenary leaders were seated.

One of them was an extremely ugly, burly middle aged man sitting arrogantly on the side.

He sneered condescendingly.

"Xiao Ding, Xiao Li," he said coldly. "You two should already understand why I'm here. One question will you merge with my Sand Mercenary Group?"

Another leader, seated beside him, chuckled and added,

"Brothers, those who recognize reality are the ones who survive. Our Storm Mercenary Group has already joined Big Brother Luo Bu's Sand Mercenary Group. Your Mo Tie Mercenary Group is too weak!"

Xiao Ding narrowed his eyes and smirked coldly.

"Hmph… that's your decision.

"But we will never join the Sand Mercenary Group!"
