Chapter 147: Chapter 133: Prom Pressure
Summary:
Ah prom, what could possibly go wrong?
Chapter Text
Amity watched as Luz focused on a board. "Okay, between checking in on the drill, searching for Belos, going to school, searching for Peridot, homework, and my therapy slash sword skill sessions … I should have room to focus on the Centipeetles here." Her girlfriend muttered, drawing on the timeline of events.
She had watched the girl practically drown herself in business lately. The group had thought the extra sessions with Dr. Waybright would've helped, and while Amity was glad that the self doubt had dwindled away tremendously, they may have put more on the girl's plate than she could handle. "Luz, don't you think you should … make time to rest?" Amity suggested. "You know … hobbies?"
"We're already writing that fanfiction with Vee. We even wrote it so we can have weekly updates for the next two years." She explained. "In fact, planning that is what helped me pin down this schedule so well." Great, even the fun stuff panned into the bad habits.
"Alright then…what about dates?" She went for something more personal. "We haven't had an earth style anime slice of life date ever since we've come here."
"Oh, sure. Tonight or tomorrow?" Luz asked. "I can prep a bean bag for us to sit on each other's laps as we binge watch Azura the good witch in Movie form while feeding each other sweets."
"Tomorrow would be great, although I had something else in mind." She pulled something out of her pocket. "I noticed a flier that was crumpled into the garbage when I was taking out the trash. Something called Prom, which I assume is Grom, but without the fear testing monster." A definite plus.
"What?" Luz asked, immediately dropping everything. "No, no no no. Even if I was taking a break and doing something fun with you, it's not going to be at prom."
"Was Grom not fun?" She asked.
"No, it was … a place where you could be whatever you wanted without worry, one where you didn't have to listen to idiots, a place where you could have fun … human prom is just mundane and judgy by comparison. And all school does is give me stress." Luz said. "I'd love to take you on a date, but … anywhere but there."
"Alright, those are fair points. You have every right to feel that way about it." Amity rubbed the girls shoulders. "I was just imagining how great you would look in a tux, showing off the tone of your arms and shoulders, me being swept off my feet like I was the night of Grom, where the two of us had our first dance, ignoring whatever fears or judgements the world wanted to throw at us."
"… You know, if we want to, we can recreate that at the cabin." Luz suggested. "And they won't even have …" The girl leaned into her ear. " Adult supervision for my toned arms ."
"Aaahhhh …" Amity began to stall as Luz traced her spine with a finger.
"And all the fun we could have, just the two of us … enough to make Boscha blush." She continued, kissing the tip of Amity's ear.
"Ahh.." No, this was going bad. Luz was using her own sexiness to her advantage! She needed to regain control of the situation before she became a puddle in the girl's hands.
"Think about it Lucci. We figure out how to control your oracle powers better, and we can have mental dates that last all night." Fortunately Boscha and Lucci came into the room before Luz could press on.
"Angel, I barely slept the last time I used it, and I was already exhausted. I'm not using that unless absolutely needed." The boy complained, walking in on them."Oh, are we interrupting?"
"No! Not at all, not at all!" Amity blushed, immediately responding as she straightened herself out as Luz turned away.
"The blush on your face says otherwise." The three eyed girl pointed out.
"That's beside the point." She turned away. "Me and Luz were just discussing date night plans. I was hoping to take her to Prom, which is Grom without the Grom, but I'm not having any luck."
"Oh, good luck on that." Lucci patted her back.
"Wait, so this Prom thing, it's a school dance event?" Boscha asked.
"Yes, hence my refusal to go and suggest many, many alternate activities." Luz said tiredly. "Human dances are just echo chambers for social hierarchy and superiority."
"Oh really?" Boscha smirked. "Lucci, I think I know the next party for Cherry to crash."
"Wait what?" He asked. "We're bringing out Cherry again?"
"Yeah, they're the party animal, and socially dominant, perfectly for them."
Haha, yes! Friends that could help them go, try talking your way out of that one Luz! "Cherry's not a student." Luz said without missing a beat.
"Does that mean she can't go? Amity wants to." Lucci brought up a valid point.
"Because I would be her date if we did go, otherwise they won't let through the doors." Luz countered.
"Cherry's a wanted criminal, we just break in anyway." Boscha shrugged indifferently.
"True, but as far as the school would see it, you'd be a lone person of ambiguous gender that just looks suspicious if you showed up by yourself." Damn it, there was too much logic! Something that was bound to work! What could Amity use here, what was Cherry's thing? Looking like a spider, potions, being a punk, friends with Kiki Pizza-
"What if you ask Kiki?" Amity suggested.
The moment those words came out of her mouth, Lucci nearly stumbled on nothing, and Boscha, who was inside of a closet grabbing clothes, crashed. "What?"
"Yeah, I'm with them, Sweet Potato….WHAT?!" Luz yelled.
"I mean, you're friends with them, they go to the same school as Luz, just giving you an option?"
"Amity… are you suggesting, to get Cherry into a dance… we, as in me and Boscha, ask Kiki out… on a date?" Lucci questioned.
"I mean … there are worse people to ask." Amity winced at her own suggestion. "Besides, it doesn't necessarily mean it has to be romantic. You've partied with her before as Cherry, it could totally be a singles friends thing… you know, from her perspective."
Lucci looked torn about it. "I don't know, that feels like there's a lot of lying in between the lines."
Amity sent him a look. "When are you not one to lie?"
"Lying to trick jerks is one thing, lying when it has a chance of emotionally manipulating someone's feelings is another." He responded. "Boscha, what do you think?"
"Huh?" Boscha looked out of it, before shaking her head. "Well, it's not a lie that we, as Cherry, consider her a friend, right?"
"No, it's not." He responded.
"Then it's not a lie … right?" She asked. "As long as we're upfront about wanting to just party casually, then nothing about it will be a lie, right?"
Now that Amity thought about it, she could see how they were stretching the truth here, but she'll worry about the guilt later. "Right, so there's nothing to worry about." Amity reassured.
"I guess so … well, she can always say no." Lucci shook his head. "Come on Angel, I need to figure out what kind of dresses we can fuse with."
"Combo options." Boscha smirked, running after him with a handful of clothes.
They watched the couple leave as Luz stared at her. "...Really?"
"We can do everything you suggested afterwards, this is something I think will be good for us." Amity said.
"You're lucky you're so cute that I can't stay mad forever." Luz sighed. "But you do realize now that we HAVE to go for the sake of looking after the mess that's going to come out of Cherry reappearing again."
"Yes, yes I do." She smiled. "And thus, you have no excuse to leave."
"You can be soo devious." Luz kissed her cheek. "And just so you know… I plan on doing everything I was talking about before… because everyone knows the after party is where the real fun begins."
"Mmmm." Amity slowly nodded.
"And for this whole thing … I'm adding a punishment." Luz said with an ominous smirk as she walked away. Why did that feel so tingy?
=======================================================================
Sadie hummed as she cleaned the windows. "So … prom." She brought up the subject to the 'cool kids' eating donuts.
"Yes, a way for school to make money off the love of the youth." Buck stated. "A division to separate those young and in love, and those single and figuring themselves out. A social divide that'll split the entire school for at least the rest of the school year."
"Or a place to party it up." Jenny shrugged. "Sour Cream, you planning on a DJ masterpiece?"
"You know it. I will rock the whole school to the point that my mere name is associated with sick tunes in people's heads." The blonde nodded. "What about you Jenny? Any big plans?"
"Dad volunteered to chaperone, mainly for catering, so half the night's going to be avoiding him." The girl sighed. "The other half is going to be about hooking Kiki up with someone, assuming I can get her to go to begin with."
"Maybe you'd have better luck doing that if you didn't talk like I'm not next to you." Jenny's twin raised an eyebrow.
"I only do that because I know you'd never take my advice." Jenny said. "Come on, live a little. Have some fun, meet someone interesting."
"Come on, Sadie's going and she's not bringing anyone." Kiki sai-wait what?
"Uh, excuse me, why am I being dragged into this conversation?" Sadie glared.
"Sorry, you're just the nearest example." Kiki responded. "The only person you've shown interest in is Lar's, but you guys haven't exactly asked each other out."
"It could happen…" She weakly defended.
"Ooooh, this I've gotta see." Jenny grinned. "Should I call him out now? Before tonight happens?"
"No, just…it's got to happen naturally-"
"Haven't you two been working together for like three years now?" Buck asked. "Just you two, all alone, working in a shop that's mostly quiet in the afternoons?"
"..Lars can be….complicated.."
"Aka, you're afraid to ask and he doesn't have the spine to." Jenny summed up a bit rudely.
"Hey, come on now." She said. "It's … not that bad."
"He kinda is." Sour cream shrugged.
The bell ringed. "Are we trash talking Lars, cause I'm down for that." Sadie turned to the new customer … and looked up at what could only be described as the hottest thing alive. Pinkish skin that wasn't sunburn off putting, slender frame, eyes that just mesmerized everyone that dared to gaze upon them, hair that seemed to flow like it was a burning flame, not to mention being above six feet, showing off just the right amount of skin around her perfectly toned legs. "Sup party people, I'm back!"
"Cherry! I-I thought you were in jail." Kiki answered, flushing like mad.
"I was. Then I decided the cell was boring and ditched it." They shrugged. "And like I would've gone another day without checking up on one of my few favorite people." They sent a cheeky wink.
She saw Jenny look back and forth with a grin. "So, Cheery, you got anything planned tonight?"
"Not really, just looking for the next party to crash." The punk god-amazon smirked, gazing at Kiki. "You wouldn't happen to know where that would be, would you?"
"Iiiiiii." Kiki squeaked, before getting smacked on the back by her sister. "I … was planning on … heading to a prom …"
"And you need someone to swing and dance with until the sun rises?" Cherry asked with a smirk.
"I mean…yeah…I was just going by myself, you know…but it would be nice to be with…a friend….you know…dancing…" Kiki choked up.
The cool kids smacked their heads, something Cherry seemed to be completely oblivious too. "Sweet, better than me breaking into the school. Now I can look forward to making your night all the more sweeter, like a bowl full of cherries." They once more ignored the choking of the bisexual disaster that was once Kiki. "So Sadie, can I get some donuts?"
"Sure … yeah." She wasn't even going to question how they knew her name.
"Man, can't tell you how great it feels to be out and running about again. Feels like I've been cooped up forever." The punk lifted her feet up on a table, leaning back on the chair she was sitting on. "That Kevin creep hasn't been messing with my favorite girl, has he?"
"Nah, right now he's waiting until the police arrest you." Jenny shrugged. "Like seriously, how are you running about without anyone spotting you with a face like that? Do you turn invisible or something?"
"What can I say? I know how to blend in everywhere and anywhere I am." Cherry laughed, pushing off the table and doing a backflip. "And I'm not going to let one bastard stop me from being me. Life's too short, so you gotta take the chance no matter the situation." So cool.
"You said it Cherry." Sour cream grinned. "Let's rock it out tonight!"
=======================================================================
Willow looked over the dress Luz was putting on. "No tux this time?" Tonight was the human version of Grom, and as the designated single best friend of the group, it was her job to judge/critique their outfits/ help with their hair.
"Between Cherry being wild and us nearly causing brain damage to Amber the last time we hit her, I wanted to go for something a little more casual." Luz said. "You think I should iron out my hair? It's getting kind of wavy and long."
"Nah, You're good. I've only seen you with short hair. It's a nice change of pace." Willow gave her thumbs up.
"Thanks, I actually used to have long and bushy hair. Then after my first trip to Comi-con, I got a real sword as apart of some Azura merch collection…you can guess what happened from there."
"To be fair, none of us can pull off long hair." Willow said. "... Except Boscha, but she balls it all up in a bun anyway."
"Ture." Luz nodded as she fitted it on. "So, do I look good?" She asked, pulling out the sleeves on her blue dress.
"There's hardly anything that you wouldn't look good in Luz." She reassured. "Didn't you say you dressed up as an otter one time?"
"I did, that got me kicked out because apparently that counts as 'not appropriate attire'." Luz groaned. "I tried to tell Amity we could do literally anything else, this is not going to be fun."
"I think she has her own idea of an ideal date." Willow said. "You know at Grom she was going to ask you out then, right?"
"Wait what?" She blinked.
"Lucci told me the whole thing." She shrugged. "He apparently thought that you two thought she was going to ask me out, but chose you instead was hilarious."
"What, but that… but… she… and her fear….." Luz looked like her whole world was breaking apart. "She's liked me for THAT LONG!?"
"Yeah, probably even longer than that. If I had to guess, probably when you first joined school."
"This entire group is just filled with oblivious people." Luz muttered.
"Welcome to my hell." Willow snickered. "That's why I've learned to be content with single life."
Amity walked in, wearing a purple and black dress. "So, do I make this work?"
"Sexy witch …" Luz looked on in awe. In another life, Willow might've said the same thing. Now Willow just gave a simple nod in response.
"So is Camila driving everyone?" The abomination using witch asked.
"No. You, Luz, Cherry, Vee, and Connie are carpooling with Kiki." Willow answered, snorting a little. "Oh that's going to be a mess. It almost makes me want to go just to record the trainwreck in the making."
"You're not going?" Amity asked.
"Like I'm getting ten feet next to someone else's romance."
"You can always focus on your own." Luz smirked.
Willow sighed. "I'm not completely opposed, but with my experience with this group? I'm never going to be the one asking someone else on a date."
"So what you're saying is that you'll only date Hunter if he asks you out first?" Amity chuckled.
"Exactly..wait that's not what I men-"
"Hah, Winter Confirmed!" Luz held her phone up high. "And I have it recorded!"
A vine shot through the device. "Oh no, all the data's lost, what a shame." Willow nonchalantly responded.
"Whatever, doesn't mean we don't have confirmation." Amity smirked. "So, when are you going to tell him?"
"Not anytime soon." Willow stated. "He still gets panic attacks, he's plagued by nightmares of Belos, he and Lucci still occasionally try to stab each other, the last thing on his mind should be romance. If I came out to him right now, it would just be selfish and force him to make a choice he might regret later on."
"That's fair." Luz nodded. "So all that's left is to wait for Cherry?"
"Here I am, here to grace you all with perfection that Kevin wishes he could lay his eyes on." They came out in an outfit that could be described as apocalyptic punk mashed with ballroom attire. A magenta leather jacket with spikes accompanying a fiery red dress and dark black combat boots. "Lavish me with your compliments."
"You look like you're about to set fire to a tea party." Willow deadpanned.
"So what you're saying is that I'm going to light the show."
"No, as in I'm pretty sure you're going to start an actual fire by the end of the night at least."
"And now stopping you from causing property damage is my top priority for the night." Luz sighed.
"Ah, chillax Luz, I promise to only set fire to the jerks that deserve it." Cherry waved off. "I can make Amber disappear for you if you want."
"No killing anyone Cherry, please." Luz said seriously.
"Fine fine … just permanent disability. "
"What was that?"
"Nothing you need to worry about, let's get going.." Amity pushed her date out the door, looking back to Cherry. "Midnight at the least, make it discrete."
Willow watched them leave. "... This is gonna be a disaster."
=======================================================================
"I'm the queen of the world!" Vee shouted, standing on top of the moving car. "Prom, here we come!" Connie asked her out to prom! PROM! The stuff every teenager dreamed of doing! And here she was, with a date … sort of, she and Connie never actually did anything other than holding hands after that one kiss in a cage, but this might be a genuine next step, if the girl was comfortable with it.
"Hey, sit back down kid!" Kiki said over the wind. "We can't get pulled over with Cherry in the car!"
"Eh, don't be too harsh on her, girl, it's the kid's first dance. I know I was excited." The fusion of Lucci and Boscha (stars she was attractive. If she didn't have Connie, she'd might've felt inclined to ask them out) laughed, holding a peace sign to the wind. "Felt like I was walking on air the entire night."
"It's still the same night." Connie pointed out, wearing a lovely teal dress that reminded Vee of the ocean.
"I never said this was MY first dance. Just my latest." Cherry turned to Kiki. "And with some of the loveliest company I've had in a while." The girl driving blushed.
"Ah…do they not know how much they're flirting?" Vee whispered to Amity and Luz.
"Nope, and when they do we're going to have to clean up." Luz said. "I already prepared multiple ways to-"
"Luz, relax." Amity placed a hand on her shoulder. "Tonight is supposed to be a night of fun, so no stressing out."
"You keep saying that, but I keep telling you that's not that easy. Even with Grom, not everything went according to plan." Luz sighed.
"I know, I know, but…Grom was the night where I was sure." Amity held the girl's hands close. "It's where I knew for a fact that I couldn't live the rest of my life without you in it."
Vee watched them blush around each other. "So cute." She cooed. "Tonight is gonna be amazing, spectacular, perfe-"
"Well hello legs." … They all turned to the car next to them, also stopped at the same red light they were. "Been a while since I've seen you." Kevin spoke.
"Oh for fucks sake." Kiki smacked her head against the wheel. "Can't you ever get a clue?"
"If by get a clue you mean persist, then yes." The creeped smirked. "So baby, how you feel about going to a real party instead of some lame pr-."
"Yo bitch, what's shakin?" Cherry asked.
"... If it isn't you." They glared."So, heading to prom I take it?"
"Yeah, without you."
"I'll be sure to head off." They rolled their eyes.
"Oh, and before you think about driving off and informing the police, here's a little parting gift I cooked up just for you." Cherry grabbed a vial out of her pocket, and threw it into the creep's car. "Hope you love the fumes!"
"The wha-" A pink smoke filled the entire car.
There was a silence as they drove off, only filled with Cherry's laugh. "Cherry …" Vee started. "Did you do anything … dangerous to him?"
"Nope, just knock out gas. He'll be out of if until morning."
"... In the middle of an intersection?" Connie asked.
"Yeah, the cops are going to come, assume he's taking drugs, repossess his car and wake up in a jail cell the next morning." Cherry laughed. "The perfect plan."
Luz sighed. "At least you didn't hurt him physically." She muttered.
"Oh come on, Kiki thought it was funny, right?" The fusion asked.
"It was, I just rather not see you in a jail cell again…I missed hanging out with you." Kiki said. "You shouldn't throw everything away just to get back at that jerk."
"I'm not throwing anything away, I'm making sure he doest get his grubby mitts on you." They smirked. "Besides, I'm not afraid of no-"
"If you threaten the cops, I will do something to you." Vee stated clearly.
"Whatever." They rolled their eyes. Guess Boscha's personality trumped Lucci's desire to please Vee.
Vee sighed, turning to Connie. "Sorry, other than this road bump, tonight is gonna be super fun for the both of us."
"I hope so. This is the first school event my parent's won't be chaperoning. I'm feeling all kinds of anxious." Connie smiled. "But in a good way."
"And we'll have a blast." She held her hand, squeezing it tightly.
"I've gotta ask, what happened?" Kiki asked as they drove.
"What happened … to what?" Luz asked.
"Connie and Steven. They used to be so close and then it was like a breakup with no fanfare." There was a pause. "Then all of a sudden, Steven's dating Boscha. And I like the girl, a lot actually, but the Steven I knew before would've clashed horribly with her personality. And then you started dating Vee when we haven't seen her around town at all."
"Ah….we just….realized…we wanted different…things in life." Connie said.
"Ah, you came out of the closet. Gotcha." Kiki nodded.
"The closet?" Amity asked. "Why would someone's closet have to affect anything?"
"It's a term people use to those that haven't embraced their sexuality." Luz said.
"What's there to not embrace?" Cherry asked. "You're just into stuff, right? If there's someone you like, just go for it regardless of what happens. If they say no, then you move on to someone else you like."
Vee thought about the closet comment … and about how she felt about Masha as well…how she liked them and Connie BOTH. Like … what was there to do about that!?
"Oh … I see …" Kiki was blushing a lot, looking out the window. "Oh, we're here!"
"Alright…let the judgment and or fun begin." Luz sighed, getting out of the car. "Amity, may I take your hand on this fine evening?"
"You always can Luz." The girl took it, dragging Luz away.
"... You ready Connie?" Vee asked, now a tad nervous.
"I always am." Connie grabbed her hand. "Ready to go on this next adventure?"
Vee gave her squeamish purr in response, not sure what to do with her lingering feelings. If she truly liked Connie, then she wouldn't have feelings for Masha…right…..RIGHT!?
=======================================================================
Cherry smirked as they walked into a large room with kids that were either dancing or chilling. "Alright … now this is a party." Is it too early to light up the stage? Do it when they make us Prom Royalty. You're already my queen, Angel. And you my dazzling prince, Crystal . Oh man, did it feel good to be back out again. Everything was coming out on top. Cherry didn't know what everyone was so afraid about going out of control. She was perfectly in control.
Cherry watched the interactions of the crowd. Sour cream was rocking it out on the mic, Vee and Connie were raiding the snack table, and Amity was dragging Luz to the dance floor. Oh, and Amber was by the bleachers with some guy, keep an eye out in case that ends poorly. Adults everywhere … and one guy by the stage who was hard to make out-
"So Cherry." Kiki interrupted her scan. "What should we do first … you know, as … partners?"
"I say we light up the dance floor and show these knuckleheads what for." They smirked.
"..You mean that metaphorically through dance, right?"
"Yes…unless you don't want it to be metaphorically." Cherry chuckled, letting out a few sparkles. "Remember where we met? I've got a few tricks up my sleeves to make this night magic ."
"You just love going the extra mile for everything, don't you?" Kiki smiled.
"Not everything, just the things I care about." Cherry winked at her. Are we coming on too strongly here? Nah, we're good. Pretty sure they would've said something about now if we were. "What about you, feeling the party bone shaking through you?"
"Not-Not as much as you…really I can only have fun in scenes like this because you're here…with me.." Kiki chuckled nervously.
"Well I'm glad that you get to have fun around me." They giggled.
"Alright people, next song's and oldie but a goodie. For those that love the mid 2000s, this is for you." Sour Cream announced.
"... I'm a little out of touch, was the mid 2000s good or bad?" The punk asked.
"I say they were mediocre in terms of events and pop culture." Kiki said as the music began to play. "So…you mind if I…have this dance?" She stuck out her hand.
This is platonic right? Totally platonic. We're all the romance we need. We're just showing the girl a good time. Right, just a good time. They took her hand and made their way to the dance floor.
"So she said, what's the problem, baby?" The song started as multiple students grinned. "What's the problem? I don't know. Well, maybe I'm in love (love)." It shouted. "Think about it every time I think about it, I can't stop thinking about it." Alright mid 2000s, you earned yourself a check up on songs.
They took an eyeful at the crowds as they and Kiki began moving out on the dance floor, casually moving at their own pace. " How much longer will it take to cure this? Just to cure it 'cause I can't ignore it if it's love (love)." The singer shouted out their frustrations. "Makes me wanna turn around and face me, But I don't know nothing 'bout love." I can relate to this song so much. Literally my whole thought process before we started dating. I've felt like this almost my whole life. Mom knew nadda on romance, so my best guide was doing the opposite.
"Come on, come on, turn a little faster." They twirled around Kiki. "Come on, come on, the world will follow after." Then Kiki twirled around them. "Come on, come on, because everybody's after love." It was like a blur, a flash of bliss where nothing could take them out of this moment.
"So I said I'm a snowball running….Running down into the spring that's coming…All this love melting under blue skies Belting out sunlight, shimmering love.." They took a glance at Amity, lifting her girlfriend up high as she spun her around, making the reluctant Luz laugh. " Well, baby, I surrender to the strawberry ice cream Never ever end of all this love…" They saw Vee awkwardly holding onto Connie as they did a fumbled up version of the Waltz.
"Well, I didn't mean to do it. But there's no escaping your love." What was Luz so afraid of, this was amazing! "These lines of lightning mean we're never alone, Never alone, no, no!" Of course we're never alone, we have each other. Yeah! " Come on, come on, move a little closer…" Kiki did come closer to them. " Come on, come on, I want to hear you whisper." Kiki's breath could be felt on them.
"Come on, come on, settle down inside my love." Okay, we might be getting a bit close. Got it, add more fun and less intimacy. " Come on, come on, jump a little higher!" Cherry jumped in the air, stomping the ground as Kiki laughed. There, much better. " Come on, come on, if you feel a little lighter! Come on, come on, we were once upon a time in love..."
"Cherry….I want to say…I don't think I've ever felt this good about someone as I do with you….I never felt this good WITH someone else before." Kiki looked at them with a dreamily, doe eyed expression.
"..As a friend…right?"
"We're accidentally in love."
And with that line, Kiki … kissed them….. ON THE LIPS
"Accidentally in love…" BADUMP
"Accidentally in love." BADUMP
Accidentally in love BADUMP
Accidentally in love BADUMP
Accidentally in love BADUMP
Accidentally in love BADUMP
Accidentally in love BADUMP
Accidentally BADUMP
Everything froze. Every thought, every emotion, every cell, everything paused in Cherry as they tried to process that … and then it hit them. A friend kissed them. The lying fusion of a romantic pair already taken.
The human pulled back with a wide smile. "I'm in love, I'm in love!" Kiki sang with the music, spinning the dazed fusion around. "I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love!"
They were barely registering the music anymore.
"Accidentally." What the fuck just happened.
"I'm in love, I'm in love I'm in love, I'm in love.I'm in love, I'm in love…!" Kiki kept repeating.
"Accidentally." We messed up. We fucked up…BIG TIME.
"Come on, come on, spin a little tighter!" Kiki stopped, noticing that Cherry had stopped moving. "Come on, come on, and the world's a little brighter." They looked at them with concern. "Come on, come on, just get yourself inside her love….."
The beating of the heart, the nervousness… the fact they thought about Kiki alot…. the fact they didn't fight off the kiss… this… this could on mean one thing. They… Cherry… was… was.." I'm in love.." Their words matched up with the final line of the song.
What… the… fuck! This is so messed up! How did we let this happen!? I thought we were just friends! We need to let her down! We're already lying to them about our species. The fusion would just break everything.
"I … I need some air." They said, letting go. I….I…I like Kiki....I…I LIKE KIKI!?
"Are you okay?" The girl asked.
"I just … need air." They needed to leave, they needed to leave NOW!
=======================================================================
Luz watched as Cherry ran out of the door. "Well … same emotional devastation, none of the bodily harm … other than Kiki's emotions." She looked at the distraught girl on the dance floor. "Should we talk to the former or the latter first?"
"What can we even say to the latter? 'Sorry, the person you like can't actually return your feelings because they're actually two younger kids already in a relationship? Oh, and yes, we knew about it beforehand and didn't say anything. No hard feelings?'." Amity faced palmed.
"Yeah … that's gonna suck." Luz sighed. "I thought we confirmed Boscha didn't like anyone but Lucci and was violently jealous of him? Where did this come from?"
"I'm more confused on the fact Lucci let it happen without punching the girl. He's violently dedicated to Boscha and no one else. That's why he hates Bria so much." Very true. "I guess…I guess some part of them… deep down… actually like Kiki… wow… that is so messed up… I shouldn't have brought them here."
"Welcome to my world. I don't realize the implications of my actions until it's too late." Luz groaned as she rubbed Amity's back. "It was sweet of you to try and break me out of my shell tonight though. You wanted to relive your time at Grom, didn't you?"
"Yeah … it was one of the most magical nights of my life."
"Amity, I love you, but the human world isn't like that." Luz said. "It just hates that fun magical stuff that makes the Boiling Isles like that. It's why I was trying to convince you to spend time alone in the cabin. Because … Well, I don't need Prom for you to make me happy." She smiled. "You do that just by being awesome."
Amity's face blushed in that adorable red fashion that Luz came to adore so much. "Right, guess I didn't need to plan the perfect night out after all. Just, going by our luck, I thought I needed to plan something to prevent anything else from popping up."
"Amity, there's no level of planning ahead for that. Trust me, I've been there." Luz chuckled. "Also, wouldn't it make more sense for something to go wrong in public than it would in private?" She asked, pausing. "...Please tell me that wasn't a jynx."
"There's not much to jynx, the problem already happened. At most Cherry blows up a random room in the school you don't care about and Kiki ends up emotionally wrecked." Amity said. "And Vee and Connie are fi-" Amity froze, looking horrified. "He's there."
"Who's here, what are you looking at-"
" He's here." Amity turned her to Vee and Connie … and an approaching Jacob , walking forward to them through the crowd. Belos was here.
Luz tried to run forward, to stop him from killing them, but she wasn't fast enough. He was already upon them, raising back his hand … and slapping Vee's back, before walking away. "... What?" That was all he did? Walk up and tap her back?
"What the heck happened?" Vee turned around, visibly confused.
"Hey bub, watch what you're…" Connie paused, as the two girl caught up with the rest of them, realizing who it was they were approached by. "You ….but…But Lucci.."
"Sent me flying across this town and into the ocean….it was by sheer miracle I didn't drown." The bastard growled, his eyes glowing the faintest blue.
"You're not going to get your way." Luz growled.
"Oh, but you've already given me a perfect opportunity to show the world the truth." Belos gave her a soft smile. "To show them the demons hiding under our very noses."
"Demons …" Which was a general term for … "Vee, how are you feeling?" She asked, turning to the shapeshifter.
"A little scared." The girl looked to herself. "He bumped me in the back. There isn't anything there, right?"
Luz stopped listening, grabbing her and turning her over … to reveal a glyph. "What good is that going to do? You don't have magic here."
"No, I do not …" The man smirked while walking away. "But that thing has a nice storage of it inside of her, doesn't it?"
Because Vee was Basilisk…who lived… OFF OF MAGIC! "We got to take that off right no-!" She tried to grab it, but it zapped her hand, sending her back as Vee's body began to spark.
"What's going on?" The girl asked, looking down at her hands in fear.
"Luz, what glyph was that!?" Amity shouted as the student body stopped dancing, looking at the commotion.
Everyone stared at the sparking Vee … as her body changed … and warped … until a Basilisk stood before the whole school. For a moment, there was nothing but silence. "... Hi there?" Vee weakly greeted.
And then the screaming began. Somehow this didn't come up in her list of top ways prom would suck…but it was sure top of the list now.
