Chapter 44: HORNS
"Uughh." A man laying inside a cold dusty cell groaned painfully, trying to open his eyes.
His throat was parched and bruised like someone had tried to strangle him.
Blinking once, then a couple of more times, Rando tried to bring his battered self to stand up.
He was feeling immense pain in his body, 'cough cough', he coughed to ease his dry throat that only strained his bruises more.
Looking ahead of him, with his blurry vision, he saw three tall silhouettes staring down at him.
He focused his eyes more by squinting, but that didn't work as the images remained blurry.
He did not feel in control of his own body. He saw the taller silhouette of what appeared to be a man walk towards him.
He felt the urge to move away from him, but his body wasn't cooperating.
"Your eyes weren't green before." He heard the man comment.
'Were his eyes green?' He asked himself.
Gavriel observed the witch before him, whose eyes had changed color. He also noticed the two sharp horns that were piercing through the man's forehead.
The witch's aura had darkened drastically, compared to when he had last seen him.
'He was transforming into something else,' Gavriel concluded, looking at the pathetic man before him.
"Who are you, and where am I?" The witch asked
Gavriel, in a gruff voice, who responded by flicking one of the man's protruding horns.
"Uuggghhhh," Gavriel watched as the witch groaned in pain.
Rando could feel his vision becoming blurry as more pain coursed through his body.
He thrashed on the ground, groaning in pain, trying to fight whatever he felt trying to take over him.
Lester raised his hand and put the witch back to sleep, stopping his groans.
"My king, was he like that before?" The Duke asked.
Gavriel observed the unconscious man before him and said "No he wasn't. He seemed to be a normal witch. He doesn't seem like a witch anymore." He remarked
Listening to the man's heartbeat that had become more profound, he concluded that this man and whoever his maid was had some sort of connection.
Just then, Lester let go of his control of the man's body. Rando woke up again, but this time, his eyes were the normal black ones, but the small protruding horns were still there.
He looked around clueless, trying to decipher what was happening and why his head was in so much pain.
He didn't recognise any of the men before him before he could stare any further at the men, a well polished leather shoe met his torso, sending him flying across the cell.
"Didn't anyone teach you not to stare?" Gavriel asked.
"Cough cough," Rando coughed, blood clutching his abdomen.
Rando looked at the man that had kicked him, his eyes lingering on the man's luscious silver hair.
"King..." he uttered before another kick launched his broken self to another part of the cell.
Raising his hand, Gavriel lifted the man in the air and brought him closer to where he was.
He could see that the witch was almost passing out again, and his aura was darkening the more.
Slapping his cheeks, the witch jerked his eyes open, "What did you want with the girl?" Gavriel asked
Rando couldn't think straight anymore because if he could, he would wonder how the vampire king was able to find out that he and his friend had kidnapped a girl earlier.
Instead, he asked, "The girl, where is she?"
"We were supposed to take her to the mistress. But she got away." he continued mumbling
"Why were you supposed to take her to the mistress?" Gavriel asked, following the man's words.
"Because she wants red ha.. AHHHHHH, " the witch screamed in agony, failing to complete his words.
The three men watched the horns on the man's head elongate, even though it wasn't much, but they seemed bigger than before.
Then, the witch fell unconscious.
Lester and Matthew had watched and listened to the king and the witch's conversation, not quite understanding what was going on.
When the witch fell unconscious, the two looked at the sovereign with curiosity in their eyes.
Waiting to hear from him about whatever was going on.
Meanwhile, in the King's bedroom, a certain red head had fallen asleep on the maroon sofa in an awkward position, unaware of the dangers lurking around her.
