Chapter 15: -13- The Miss Who Seeks Wool Deals
"She's here?"
"Yes, she's here already!"
"Where, where?"
"Right in the central hall! She's worshipping with Lord Lawuer!"
"Let's go! Let's go have a look!"
In the corridor outside the chapel of the Bold Church Hospital,
the crowd bustled, and believers in different outfits spread the word like a tide heading toward the central hall of the church.
Among them, there were apprentice priests from the church hospital, residents living nearby, and young nobles who had come with their followers to witness the sight.
Passersby on the street could not help but be surprised:
"What's happened? Why are there so many people gathered?"
"Yeah, isn't the church usually pretty quiet?"
"Is there some event at the church hospital today?"
"It's Miss Charlotte!"
An excited resident explained as he pointed towards the central hall and continued,
"She's worshipping in the church! She has been attending for three days in a row!"
"Miss Charlotte? Why does that name sound familiar?"
"Of course, you'd recognize it—she's the young lady of the Castel family!"
"The Castel family? You mean that Castel? The one who recently faced a tragedy in her family and enchanted the Duke's illegitimate son with just one glance, that beauty?"
"That's her!"
Their eyes lit up,
"Let's go! Let's go have a look!"
Gawking is always the pleasure of ordinary people, especially when it comes to the nobility.
It spread like a virus, and passersby quickly became excited and joined the crowd to see what was going on.
However, in the eye of the storm, inside the central hall of the church associated with the hospital, there was an atmosphere of sacred solemnity.
Etheral hymns washed over the soul, and holy brilliance illuminated the hall.
Priest Lawuer was dressed in a white Divine Robe.
Holding the Divine Staff in one hand and the scriptures in the other, he solemnly explained the teachings of the Holy Royal Court.
The Holy Light shone on him, making him look like an envoy of the deities.
Bright, pure, majestic...
Yet, he, the preacher, was not the focus of the room.
Below the pulpit, a beautiful young girl in a pure white dress had her hands folded in front of her chest.
She knelt on the ground, her eyes gently closed, her long lashes trembling slightly, her delicate face full of tranquility and sanctity.
Her golden hair shimmered like silk under the Holy Light, naturally spreading on the ground.
Shiny photons under the Divine Arts fluttered around her like dancing elves.
An angel...
She was an angel fallen to earth!
That was the only thought of everyone who witnessed this scene.
The believers in the hall listening to the Church became even more devout, looking at the girl and the priest with reverence and fervor.
And those fun-seekers who had come to see the rumored beautiful noble girl involuntarily quieted down.
They did not want to disturb the girl in prayer.
They did not want to spoil such a holy and beautiful scene.
They felt ashamed, feeling that any disrespect towards the girl at this moment was a blasphemy against the deities...
There were even freelance artists attracted to the scene, eagerly unfolding their easels on the spot, wishing to capture this sacred moment.
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven..."
The elderly priest solemnly finished the last line of prayer and gently set down the scriptures.
He stretched out his hand, devoutly making the sign of the Ring Cross across his chest:
"Praise the Holy!"
"Praise the Holy!"
The believers also traced the Holy Emblem on their chests, praising in unison.
The hymns ceased, and the Divine Arts' brilliance that shrouded the hall was also dispelled by the priests.
Today's worship was over.
Priest Lawuer nodded slightly to the believers and then left the church with the rising girl.
The hall quieted down for a moment longer, and the solemn atmosphere slowly dissipated.
The onlookers outside the door breathed a sigh of relief.
They exchanged looks and saw awe and amazement in each other's eyes.
"She's so beautiful… No wonder so many people are fond of her!"
"Divine Lord above! Is she the daughter of a deity?"
"Truly worthy of the beauty of the Castel family..."
"Plus, she's an heiress! If someone could woo her, they'd also gain the wealth of the Castel family!"
"Stop fantasizing. Even ordinary nobles probably couldn't match the Castel family!"
"But didn't the Castel family recently face misfortune? I heard she's the only one left?"
"That's sad... She's not of age yet, is she?"
"Heh, even if her family is in trouble, the cost of just one meal for her is still your annual salary."
"Yeah, I heard even the beds and toilets in the Castel family are made of gold!"
"..."
"Ah, Little Charlotte, how have you considered my previous proposal?"
"Becoming a priest does not mean giving up your rights to the inheritance, as long as you do not take an office within the Church. There are many nobles who are priests in the Church."
Walking down the corridor of the Church Hospital, Dean Lawuer walked alongside Charlotte with a kindly smile on his wise face:
"I'm serious. I've been growing to admire you more and more. You are truly suited to be a priest, no... perhaps even in the future, you could become the Saintess of the Divine Church!"
"Have you noticed? With you here, the number of believers attending worship at the church has increased these past few days, and even the priests are working harder."
