Across the wide expanse of Seireitei's training field, only a heavy, rhythmic thud echoed—dull, visceral, and unrelenting. Each crash made the watching crowd flinch. It was Zaraki Kenpachi's body hitting the barrier again and again.
No one knew how many times he'd fallen and clawed his way back to his feet. He rose, charged, was struck down, and rose again—tireless, defiant, unstoppable. But this wasn't the wild, one-sided carnage that usually defined his battles. This time, there was no defense, no tactics, no calculated bloodlust—just brute, blind aggression crashing against an unmovable wall.
In the past, Kenpachi's style shattered weaker foes. The sheer force of his attacks broke their spirits before his blade ever touched them. But none of that worked here. Against Su Li, each charge was brushed aside with calm precision, each swing countered without effort. He wasn't just surviving Kenpachi's onslaught—he was dismantling it.
Kenpachi's body was soaked in blood. Deep bruises and fist-sized welts bloomed across him like a grotesque garden of crimson blossoms. Yet Su Li stood untouched, composed, and immaculate, as if the fight had never begun. Each time Kenpachi rose, it took longer. The moments between his charges widened. After each fall, he lay still longer, trembling, before dragging himself upright to lunge again. And every time, Su Li remained motionless, waiting without malice or urgency.
Attack. Fall. Rise. Wait. The rhythm repeated like an endless chant. To the onlookers, it felt like watching an old tale brought to life—a stubborn hero throwing himself at an invincible monster, doomed to fail but too proud to quit. Somehow, the wild beast of the Eleventh Division had become the underdog, and the unknown challenger had become the immovable apex. It was disorienting, surreal. Who was truly being tested here?
The crowd didn't know what to think, but they couldn't look away. With every failed charge and fresh wound, the emotion rippled through them. Ise Nanao gripped her uniform tightly, eyes brimming. "Even just touching his sleeve would be a win..." she whispered, her voice cracking. Kotetsu Isane sobbed openly. "Wuuu… Captain Kenpachi… hit that demon..." she choked out, tears spilling down her cheeks. Rangiku, normally calm and poised, bit her lip until it bled. "Don't give up! You're strong! You can still stand!" Her voice broke as she cried.
Komamura Sajin trembled beside the railing, his massive hands clenched so tightly the steel beneath him cracked. "Kenpachi! Get up! If you're a man—then stand!" he bellowed. Shiba Isshin's voice boomed across the stands, filled with fire. "Damn it! Get up, Kenpachi! You're invincible!" And even Tousen Kaname, known for his cold stoicism, stood and shouted, "Get up, Captain Kenpachi! Don't lie there like a dead dog!" His outburst stunned those near him—not for its intensity, but for the strange irony of a blind man yelling for someone to open their eyes.
Surrounded by cries and screams, Kenpachi stirred. He coughed blood and pushed against the ground, his hands shaking. In the crowd, girls wept. The men clenched their fists until their knuckles turned white. The will to fight surged through the arena like a wave, and still he rose.
Then, at the edge of the stands, Rangiku caught sight of something strange. Yachiru Kusajishi was smiling.
She stared in disbelief. "Yachiru… aren't you worried? He's getting destroyed. Why are you smiling?"
Yachiru clung to the railing, legs swinging, that same innocent grin on her face. "Don't worry. I can feel it. Kenny's really happy right now."
Rangiku blinked. "Happy?"
"Mmhmm. Fighting someone this strong—it's got him super excited. Su Li's amazing. I'll have to thank him later... for making Kenny so happy."
Her voice was soft, certain. She wasn't worried. She never had been. No one knew Kenpachi better.
And then, from somewhere in the back, a sharp voice tore through the crowd.
"Hey! Kenpachi! Don't you get it yet? Or are you still underestimating that guy?!"
Heads turned. It was Kurotsuchi Mayuri, practically snarling with impatience. "You're not even on that kid's level right now! Even if you're holding back for fun, at least get serious! Take it off already, Captain Kenpachi!"
The crowd froze, as if jolted from a dream. In an instant, expressions changed. They'd all forgotten—he was still wearing it.
"…Tch. Damn…" Kenpachi muttered, voice low and ragged. Blood ran down his chin as he chuckled. "As annoying as that freak is... he's right."
He looked toward Su Li, and something in his gaze reignited. "I thought I had the right idea… this should've been an all-out fight. But I got greedy. I haven't felt this alive in years… and I got carried away. I wasted too much time."
Straightening, his spine realigned. His posture shifted, his weight balanced. The moment sharpened. His killing intent crystallized.
Without hesitation, he reached up—and ripped off the blindfold.
The sky shook. The arena cracked beneath them. Kenpachi's Reiatsu erupted like a storm unleashed.
Screams rang out. Some collapsed. Others dropped to their knees, crushed under the pressure. For the younger Soul Reapers, even breathing became impossible.
Now, they understood.
The blindfold hadn't hidden a wound. It had sealed a monster. His spiritual pressure had always been too immense—second only to Yamamoto himself. The eyepatch, crafted by the Research and Development Bureau, was a limiter. A device to suppress his power, to extend his joy in battle by handicapping himself.
But now, the seal was gone.
No restraint. No filters. No blind joy.
Only the raw, unbridled force of the man who lived for battle.
This was no longer Zaraki Kenpachi the captain.
This was the real Zaraki Kenpachi.
