Billionaire's Hidden Truth

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: A Last-Ditch Runaway

Linda's POV

Kevin wasted no time at all. Within an hour after our brief phone conversation, he appeared at my door, his eyes searching the room as if someone could be watching, his expression solemn.

He entered and remarked, "We don't have much time." "Just take what you require. The others can wait.

My chest was thumping with my heart. I had a hard time processing everything because it was all occurring so quickly. Only a few days ago, I believed that identifying Kevin as a real person was my biggest challenge. I was now being forced to flee because my entire life was getting out of hand.

I hurried to my room and packed a few clothing and necessities into a small suitcase. Trying to think of things I couldn't live without made my thoughts whirl, but it all seemed so pointless now. With my entire reputation shattered, what use did makeup and clothing make?

Kevin called tensely from the living room, "Linda, hurry."

With my heart heavy with doubt, I zipped up the suitcase and left again. "How about my father?" I looked at my father, who was sitting on the couch and appeared just as confused as I did and inquired.

Kevin promised me that we would take care of him. "But we have to get you out of here right now."

As I nodded, a knot started to develop in my throat. "I'll be back soon, okay, Dad. Simply keep yourself safe.

Mr. Charles gazed up at me, remorse shining in his eyes. "I apologize, Linda. This is not what I ever intended for you.

Even though my heart was breaking, I forced a grin. "Dad, you are not to blame. We will work things out.

Kevin grasped my hand and gently dragged me to the door. "We have to leave now."

Leaving the life I had known behind, we climbed into Kevin's car and drove away. I felt like everything was pressing down on me as we drove through the pitch-black streets. My father's debt, the media controversy, and the revelation of my relationship with Daniel all seemed too much to bear.

Kevin's jaw clenched in concentration as his eyes remained fixed on the road. He was agitated, but he was trying to remain composed for my benefit.

"Where are we heading?" When I did inquire, it was hardly more than a whisper.

"A cabin is there," Kevin said. It is remote and distant from the city. There, we'll be secure for some time.

Observing the city lights disappear into the distance, I gazed out the window. More to myself than to him, I muttered, "I can't believe this is happening."

"I understand," Kevin muttered. "But we'll work this out, I swear."

I looked at him with conflicted feelings. "Why didn't you inform me of Nathan's intentions? Why did you withhold so much from me?

Kevin let out a sigh and gripped the steering wheel more tightly. "I believed I was keeping you safe. I wanted you to stay out of my family's mess.

But now that I'm involved, I murmured, my voice breaking with annoyance. "You ought to have told me everything right away."

I could see the remorse in his eyes as he took a while to react. "You're right," he acknowledged. "I ought to have informed you. However, I was at a loss to describe things. Linda, my past is confusing. And hazardous.

"How dangerous is it?" Needing to know more, I pressed.

Kevin paused. Some people, like Nathan, would stop at nothing to defeat me. They are using you to reach me after waiting for an opportunity to destroy me.

I took a deep breath and realized how deep I was. "Now, what should we do?"

"We stay quiet for the time being," Kevin stated. "I'll find a method to clear your name and hold Nathan accountable for his actions."

The cabin was tucked away from prying eyes in the middle of the forest. I had a fleeting sense of comfort as we pulled up to it, expecting that this location would allow us the time we needed to sort things out.

However, that tranquillity was short-lived.

My heart sank the following morning as I sat by the tiny window and browsed through my phone's news feed. The media frenzy had not subsided. It had gotten worse, if anything. More lies about my previous relationship with Daniel were being published in articles. I could see how the public was turning against me because they were portraying me as a cunning, heartless lady.

Observing my expression, Kevin entered the room. "What's the matter?"

I pointed to my phone and added, "They're still talking about me." "And things are becoming worse."

Taking the phone away from me to view the headlines, he scowled. "This is not good. Nathan is exerting all his energy.

I let out a sigh, completely defeated. "I have no idea how to resolve this. Everyone believes that I am a horrible person.

Kevin dropped the phone and knelt next to me. His voice was firm as he said, "We'll fix this." I'll see to it that the truth is revealed. However, we require additional time.

Kevin's phone buzzed just as I was starting to relax. I saw a sudden change in his demeanour as he looked at the TV. His eyes clouded with concern, and his face turned pale.

"What is it?" With my heart pounding once more, I asked.

He took a while to respond. Rather, he got up and moved to the opposite side of the room, reading the message with his back to me. It seemed like forever before he turned to look at me.

Slowly, he continued, "It's a message." "From someone aware of my history."

I looked at him, perplexed. "What do you mean?"

I took Kevin's phone and read the message:

"Kevin, I am aware of your true identity. You will follow my instructions exactly if you don't want your genuine identity revealed.

My blood froze. "What does this signify? Who sent this?

Kevin said in a strained voice, "I don't know." But they know too much, whoever it is. Additionally, they are threatening to divulge all information.

As I tried to comprehend what was happening, my thoughts raced. Another menace was hovering above us just when I thought things couldn't get much worse. Kevin was now being used against himself because of his enigmatic history, which he had been working so hard to conceal.

"What are we going to do?" I whispered, feeling the weight of the world crashing down on us.

Kevin's eyes met mine, full of determination. "We need to find out who's behind this. And we need to stop them before it's too late."
