Chapter 15: Chapter 15: A Mission for Two
The following morning, Fugaku summoned Shina and Itachi to the main hall. His usual stern demeanor was present, but there was a subtle undertone of trust as he addressed them.
"I have a mission for both of you," Fugaku began, his sharp gaze moving between his sons. "This task will require teamwork and coordination. It will also serve as a test of your abilities to work together as brothers and shinobi of the Uchiha clan."
Shina leaned casually against the wall, his arms crossed. "A mission for the two of us? Sounds serious. What's the job?"
Fugaku unfurled a map and placed it on the table. "There's been a series of disturbances in a village near the Naka River. The locals claim that a rogue shinobi is causing chaos—stealing supplies, injuring civilians, and disrupting the peace. Your task is to investigate, eliminate the threat, and ensure the village's safety."
Itachi stood at attention, his young face set with determination. "Understood, Father. We'll handle it."
Shina smirked, glancing at his brother. "Look at you, already sounding like a leader. Don't worry, Dad, we'll get it done. Piece of cake."
Fugaku's expression softened ever so slightly. "I trust you both. Do not let me down."
---
The journey to the village was uneventful, save for Shina's constant chatter. He pointed out random landmarks, told exaggerated stories of his past missions, and occasionally teased Itachi about his stoic demeanor.
"You know, Itachi," Shina said as they crossed a small bridge, "you should smile more. You're too serious for a kid your age."
"I smile plenty," Itachi replied, his tone calm.
"Oh really?" Shina grinned. "When was the last time you laughed at one of my jokes?"
Itachi gave him a sidelong glance. "Do you really want me to answer that?"
Shina burst out laughing, clapping his brother on the shoulder. "Fair enough, little bro. Fair enough."
---
When they arrived at the village, it was clear that something was wrong. The streets were eerily quiet, and the few villagers they encountered looked frightened and wary.
A middle-aged man approached them cautiously, his hands trembling. "You… you're from the Uchiha clan?"
"That's right," Shina said, his tone surprisingly gentle. "We're here to help. Can you tell us what's been going on?"
The man nodded, his eyes darting around as if he expected someone to attack him at any moment. "There's a rogue shinobi. He's… he's powerful. Comes at night, stealing from our homes, hurting anyone who tries to stop him. We're terrified."
Itachi stepped forward, his expression calm but reassuring. "Do you know where he's hiding?"
"Near the river," the man said. "There's an old mill. We think he's been using it as his base."
"Thank you," Itachi said with a small bow. "We'll take care of it."
Shina placed a reassuring hand on the man's shoulder. "Stay indoors tonight. You'll be safe by morning."
---
The brothers waited until nightfall before making their move. As they approached the old mill, Shina whispered to Itachi, "Alright, kiddo, what's the plan? You're the tactical genius here."
Itachi studied the area, his Sharingan active. "He's inside. Alone. We'll approach quietly, surround him, and cut off his escape routes. I'll engage him directly while you cover me from a distance."
Shina nodded, impressed. "Not bad, little bro. Let's do it."
---
The rogue shinobi was skilled, his movements quick and his jutsu powerful. But he was no match for the combined strength and strategy of the Uchiha brothers. Itachi's precision and speed forced the enemy to stay on the defensive, while Shina's unorthodox tactics and well-timed attacks kept him off balance.
In the end, the rogue was subdued, bound with chakra-suppressing ropes.
"That wasn't so bad," Shina said, wiping sweat from his brow. "Teamwork makes the dream work, huh?"
Itachi allowed himself a small smile. "You did well, Shina-nii."
"You too, squirt," Shina replied, ruffling his hair.
---
The villagers were overjoyed when the brothers returned with the rogue in tow. Their gratitude was overwhelming, and for once, Shina didn't make a joke or brush it off. He simply smiled and accepted their thanks.
As they left the village, Itachi looked up at Shina. "Do you think Father will be proud?"
Shina slung an arm around his brother's shoulders. "I know he will. But more importantly, I'm proud of you, Itachi. You're gonna be one heck of a shinobi."
Itachi looked away,
