Chapter 135
Chapter 135
The girl greeted them nonchalantly, brushed her hair back with her hand, and looked at Damian and Casey with her crimson eyes.
She was holding a large axe. It seemed to be the axe that had struck the floor, missing Damian.
A sly smile spread across her lips.
Damian was shaken by the girl’s human-like appearance. Casey had mentioned that there were human-shaped golems, but he hadn’t expected one so indistinguishable from a real person. She truly looked human.
With her peach-colored cheeks, lovely eyes with thick eyelashes, and beautiful silver hair, if Casey hadn’t told him she was a golem, he would have thought she was a girl who had gotten lost and wandered in here.
While Damian was flustered, Casey threw a nearby chair and shattered the window.
Crash!
The door was blocked by Dorothy, leaving them with no escape route. They had to escape through the window. Damian quickly realized this and jumped through the broken window.
Damian flew through the air and grabbed the railing of the terrace on the opposite building. Casey was sliding down the gas pipe at a speed that almost looked like he was falling.
Damian moved from terrace to terrace, climbing down the building.
“Ah~ it was a trap after all~ We came here for nothing~”
Casey said in a carefree tone, running faster than anyone else. Damian, hurriedly following him, asked, “Aren’t you going to fight?!”
“I don’t mind fighting. But Dorothy is a nuisance.”
As Casey shook his head, the girl jumped out of the 5th-floor window without any safety gear. She caught up to them and blocked their path, landing gracefully.
“Casey, have you become a coward since I last saw you? Running away as soon as you see me?”
The girl spoke to Casey in a friendly tone, as if she knew him. But Casey pushed Damian forward and whispered, “Sorry, Damian. I think I have to leave this to you.”
“Why?”
Damian looked at Casey in confusion at his words, which implied he was going to retreat. Casey, who didn’t seem to intend to use Damian as a sacrificial lamb, said with a frown, “My flames don’t work on Dorothy. She has fire resistance.”
Meanwhile, the girl Casey called Dorothy slowly approached them.
“Is that guy next to you a new friend, Casey?”
“That’s right. His name is Damian. Say hello to each other.”
Casey’s nonchalant tone seemed a bit out of touch with reality, but it was his way of easing Damian’s tension.
Casey’s easygoing attitude helped Damian regain his composure and start thinking. Judging from the current situation, he knew they would be caught by Dorothy if they tried to run away.
He aimed his rifle at Dorothy and asked Casey quickly, “How do I kill her?”
“It’s the same as when you caught the crow golem. Shoot the magic stone.”
“Where is the magic stone? Is it in her heart like the crow?”
“That’s right. But… It’ll be hard to pierce with a gun. Unlike the crow golem, there’s protective magic around the magic stone.”
“Then how do I catch her?” Damian was bewildered by the constant “no’s.”
“Was it Damian? Damian, are you really going to shoot me with that? That’s scary,” Dorothy said, feigning a pitiful look to evoke sympathy. But her tone was overly dramatic, almost mocking Damian.
“I don’t want to hear that from a girl wielding an axe,” Damian replied nonchalantly, and Dorothy giggled. She adjusted her grip on the axe handle and tilted her head slightly.
“That’s not funny.”
Dorothy charged at them. The sight of the girl running with an axe half her height was quite grotesque.
Damian fired and hit Dorothy’s right arm. The bullet pierced through, but Dorothy didn’t even flinch, as if she couldn’t feel pain, and swung the axe at Casey and Damian.
Damian and Casey dodged in opposite directions.
“The protective magic isn’t foolproof. It’s only around the magic stone for efficiency. So instead of trying to kill her…”
Damian, understanding his intention, said to Casey with a frustrated look, “Then why didn’t you say so earlier?!”
Dorothy, seemingly choosing the less combat-ready Casey as her first target, lunged at him. Casey rolled on the ground to dodge. At the same time, he created flames to obstruct Dorothy’s vision.
As she faltered, Casey stepped back and created distance between them.
Damian tried to provide support fire to help Casey, but the gun was useless unless he hit a vital spot. Dorothy looked back at Damian with an impassive expression.
“Damian is quite bothersome too.”
Dorothy, seemingly finding Damian a hindrance, left Casey alone and swung the axe at Damian this time.
Dorothy was faster than he expected, and Damian failed to dodge the axe’s range.
He reflexively raised his rifle and blocked the axe with the barrel. However, a rifle wasn’t meant for blocking axes. The relatively fragile rifle was struck by the axe and shattered.
Damian, who had succeeded in protecting himself but lost a weapon, clicked his tongue and swung the broken rifle, the part with the stock, at Dorothy.
This time, Damian’s attack was faster than Dorothy’s movements, and the stock of the rifle struck her forehead. There was a cracking sound, and Damian instinctively knew it was Dorothy’s skull.
Fortunately for Damian, it seemed to be one of the areas where he could inflict damage, as Dorothy’s movements faltered for a moment. But she didn’t die instantly like a human.
“That hurts,” Dorothy said to Damian in a whimpering tone, but Casey, who was behind him, retorted, “Don’t lie. You’re perfectly fine.”
Dorothy grinned with a grotesque, cracked face and regained her mobility. However, thanks to the brief respite, it didn’t take long for Damian to pull out his handgun and aim it at her.
Damian aimed at Dorothy’s eyes as she charged at him with the axe.
Bang!
The bullet hit Dorothy’s left eye. Her head snapped back, but like when she was hit in the forehead, she quickly recovered and attacked Damian again.
Damian deliberately allowed Dorothy to approach. When she swung the axe, Damian dodged to the side, barely avoiding the blade, and blocked the axe handle with his right arm.
Clang!
The metal of his prosthetic arm clashed against the axe handle. Damian didn’t feel any pain since there were no sensory nerves in the prosthetic, but he felt the joints creak.
Dorothy smirked, confident that she could win if they continued this contest of strength.
But then she sensed something was wrong and looked at Damian’s right hand. His gun wasn’t there.
As Dorothy tilted her head in confusion, Damian shoved the gun in his left hand against her remaining right eye. Dorothy’s eyes widened, but she couldn’t stop him.
Bang!
Another shot. The bullet pierced through Dorothy’s right eye and exited from the back of her head. The trajectory of the bullet caused the back of her head to explode.
Dorothy didn’t scream or groan, but she seemed to be in shock as she dropped the axe. She fumbled and covered her face with both hands.
Then, she awkwardly reached out, her hands groping the air. It seemed like she couldn’t see because both her eyes were damaged.
“It’s actually better that her body is similar to a human’s.”
He had been worried that she might be able to see even without her eyes, but fortunately, that wasn’t the case. Just as Damian was about to point the gun at Dorothy’s forehead with an indifferent expression…
“P-please spare me…” Dorothy whimpered.
“Pl-pl-please… Spare me… Please? Damian! Casey! Please!”
Damian’s movements stopped abruptly. He was still pointing the gun at Dorothy, but his eyes were filled with turmoil.
