Benchwarmer’s system:Rising through Global Hoops

Chapter 24: Preseason Chemistry

Preseason vs. Golden State: First time sharing the court with LeBron. Warm-ups, LeBron clapped his back. "Heard you coach kids? My son says teaching's the best way to learn."

First quarter pick-and-roll: the play called for a pass, but Lin Mo spotted LeBron cutting baseline—the same route his tryout center ran! He lobbed instinctively; LeBron slammed it home, winking. "Better than the playbook."

Second half, a Warrior guard elbowed his ribs. Lin Mo didn't retaliate. Next defense, he cut off the drive before it started—"Don't wait for them to move," he'd told the kids. The steal led to a fast break, Lin Mo dishing to LeBron for the dunk.

On the sidelines, the Lakers' coach circled a note: "Plays smart."

Locker room after, LeBron tossed him a Gatorade. "Remember this. Basketball's not stats. It's thinking like your teammate—before they do."
