Being Overpowered in Akame ga Kill

Chapter 125: 125: Attack of the Hell Butterfly

"Hmph, do you take me for a fool? If that were really true, would your family have fallen into such ruin? And even if it were, do you think I, Lord Syura, would be afraid of him?"

When Cartel mentioned Haruki, Syura visibly paused. Back when he returned to the Imperial Capital, the Minister had personally warned him not to mess with Haruki or anyone close to him. The Minister, fully aware of Syura's lecherous tendencies, wasn't worried about Syura getting hurt—he was worried that Syura would drag him down too.

But all he told Syura was not to provoke Haruki under any circumstances, or even he wouldn't be able to save him. He never revealed Haruki's true identity. As a result, the already arrogant and reckless Syura didn't take the warning seriously at all.

First of all, Syura figured that if Haruki really had such status, as Cartel claimed, then there was no way the Cartel family would have ended up so pitifully.

Second, from his perspective, with six Teigu users on his side, he could run wild as he pleased. Even if Lina truly was Haruki's fiancée, there was nothing Haruki could do to him.

Third, Syura hadn't been back in the Imperial Capital for long and didn't know much about Haruki. He didn't believe Haruki would go so far over a woman.

With all that in mind, Syura ultimately couldn't resist Lina's beauty. Wearing a lecherous grin, he started moving toward her from behind Cartel.

"Wait, Syura, hehe, let me help you get that cute little girl out. And besides, I've never tried someone like him—forty, right? And right next to his daughter, too. Haha, just imagining it feels great."

As Syura approached the father and daughter, the lustful she-wolf, Cosmina, who had just finished dressing, spoke up with a twisted smile.

"Yeah, sounds good. After I've had my fun, let Enshin take a turn too. A rare beauty like her doesn't come around often."

Without a second thought, Syura agreed with a grin.

"You bastards... you won't die a good death."

Seeing that even invoking Haruki's name wasn't enough to scare them off, Cartel was filled with despair. He had heard their sick plan just moments ago, and now he could do nothing but curse at them hoarsely.

"Don't come any closer! Somebody—please, save me!"

Lina cried out in tears as the two creeps walked toward her with disgusting smiles. To her, this day was nothing short of a nightmare. That morning, a group had stormed into her home, killing indiscriminately. Not just her trusted maids and guards, but even her cousins, aunts, uncles—all dead. Even her own brother had been murdered right in front of her.

And now, they had set their sights on her. Powerless and desperate, Lina could only pray for a miracle—for someone, anyone, to save her.

"Haha, little girl, even if the King of Heaven showed up today, he couldn't save you. Just give up and accept your fate!"

Cosmina grinned cruelly as she advanced on Lina with Syura at her side.

But just as disaster was about to strike, something unexpected happened.

Suddenly, a swarm of hell butterflies flew into the room, quickly filling every corner.

"What are these things? I've never seen them before."

Syura looked around in astonishment. Despite years of traveling and his pride in being worldly, he had never heard of these strange purple-black butterflies covered in cross-shaped markings.

And this was the Imperial Capital. Such a bizarre phenomenon was anything but normal.

While Syura tried to make sense of it, a horrifying scene unfolded. Without hesitation, the butterflies dove straight for the corpses on the floor.

In mere moments, the witnesses saw something unbelievable—flesh turning to bone, then even the bones vanishing completely.

These were part of the hell butterflies Haruki had sent earlier to dispose of corpses. Through constant devouring, they could multiply rapidly. Compared to their original number, they had grown exponentially in just a short time—one of the many terrifying traits that made hell butterflies so deadly.

"Oh? How interesting. If we could tame them, they'd make an incredible weapon in the future!"

Watching the butterflies devour the corpses, Syura's eyes lit up with greed. He certainly had a good eye—but what he didn't know was that these butterflies already had a master.

"Ugh, what a nuisance. Interrupting my fun."

Unlike Syura, Cosmina didn't think much of the butterflies. Her eyes remained locked on Cartel and Lina.

"Move!"

With a wave of irritation, she raised something resembling a microphone and swung it through the air, trying to drive the butterflies away.

But no one could have predicted what happened next. That seemingly careless motion would cost Cosmina her life.

The moment she acted aggressively, the butterflies—until then fluttering freely—froze in place. Their wings spread wide.

Then, tiny specks of light began gathering between their wings.

"Boom!"

"Ahhh!"

Beams of energy shot out, striking Cosmina in an instant. Explosions rang out, followed by a scream and clouds of smoke.

"What... what's going on? These butterflies can attack like that?"

As the hell butterflies released their energy, Syura sensed danger and instinctively jumped back, putting distance between himself and Cosmina. That quick reaction saved his life—for now.

When the smoke finally cleared, all that was left was a large crater and the microphone-like device Cosmina had been holding.

Not even a trace of her body remained.
