Chapter 425: Chapter 425: Not Everything Comes Without Downsides
Ever since William's mother, Lena, caught wind of him not only flying a helicopter but also taking part in a mission against insurgents, she didn't say much but made her feelings clear through her actions. She strongly insisted that William work diligently at Chelsea, focusing on the demolition and design of the new stadium and training grounds.
For an entire week, William spent his days discussing the new stadium's appearance and the design of the training grounds with the architects. He shared the design of the Allianz Arena with them, and with Sunday's help, the stadium's exterior was finalized in just five days. The initial design could accommodate 66,000 people, with the option to expand in the future.
During some free time, William even visited Guan Yuming's restaurant in London to enjoy a Cantonese meal.
Now that the murderers were all dead, old Guan had calmed down. Before leaving, he asked William to check on Harry Hart, as he'd called him several times but hadn't gotten any response, which made him anxious.
William agreed to help find Harry and, on his way home, asked Sunday to track Harry Hart's whereabouts. It turned out that Harry was in a coma at the secret service academy hospital, which made it clear to William that Valentine had betrayed him.
Since William had no intention of taking over the Kingsman organization, he wasn't keen on openly visiting Harry. Even if he did want to take over, he figured he would wait until some crazy woman eliminated all the old generation of Kingsman agents before making his move.
William decided not to share this information with Guan. Back home, he silently used a portal to travel to New York. Disguised with a hat and makeup, he took advantage of Valentine's time in London, where he was lobbying at 10 Downing Street to secure new opportunities for his company to supply special raw materials.
Over four consecutive nights, William used magic and his second-generation optical camouflage combat suit to infiltrate several of Valentine's server centers. He quietly uploaded the programs provided by Sunday into these closed-off servers.
William even discovered a highly secretive base in Yellowstone Park, which he discreetly visited, leaving a Trojan horse in its servers. After completing his tasks, he swiftly opened a portal and returned to London. The moment those servers connected to the outside world, Sunday would immediately gain control over them.
After five busy days of preparations, William finally settled down. Early one morning, after having breakfast and sending Abigail off, he rode in his mother's car to Chelsea. Barely a few minutes after arriving at his office, an unexpected visitor appeared at Chelsea.
"SIR, Mr. Yuri Orlov from New York is downstairs requesting to see you," Sunday informed him.
"Yuri? What brings him here?" William was momentarily taken aback. After a brief pause, he said, "Invite him up. Have Sophia bring in two cups of coffee."
"Understood, SIR."
A few minutes later, Gunar's daughter, Sophia, led Yuri Orlov into the office. "Mr. Devonshire, your guest has arrived."
"Thank you, Sophia. Are you adjusting well? If not, feel free to go back and help Abigail. There's not much to do here," William said.
"Thank you, Mr. Devonshire. I really enjoy working on the stadium project, so don't worry about me. I'll step out and get the coffee now," Sophia replied with a smile, then left the office.
William watched Sophia's retreating figure, shaking his head. He knew exactly what the young woman was thinking, but every time he thought about Gunar, he had no interest in Sophia.
"Apologies, Yuri," William said as he shook hands with him. "Sophia is the daughter of one of my trusted subordinates. She's staying here to avoid some trouble. Initially, she was supposed to intern at the stadium, but yesterday she came over, saw I didn't have a secretary, and volunteered for the job."
Yuri teased, "So what? She's your subordinate's daughter, not your wife. You can't stop someone from liking you."
William shot him an annoyed look and said, "Let's drop it. What brings you here in person? You could have just called."
Yuri chuckled but then turned serious. "I came to London for some business and thought I'd let you know something important."
Intrigued by Yuri's serious tone, William leaned in. "Go on."
Yuri hesitated for a moment, glancing around the office. Sensing his concern, William reassured him, "Relax. I run thorough security checks daily. No one can listen in."
"Okay," Yuri nodded. "I'll get straight to the point. Recently, someone placed a secret order with me for a large quantity of weapons. Two hundred sets of AKs and handguns, along with grenades, smoke bombs, and bulletproof vests. That's nothing unusual, but the delivery point is North Africa, just across the sea from France. I got suspicious and did some digging. It turns out these people are not only buying a lot of light weapons, but they're also acquiring drugs from the black market."
"Buying weapons and drugs isn't unusual. Is there something else I should know?"
"Yes, Mr. Devonshire. If these people were staying in North Africa, I wouldn't care. But what if some of them are secretly coming to London?"
"Get to the point. What exactly did you find?" William, having dealt with the recent series of assassination attempts, had grown somewhat numb to such news. He wasn't worried about assassins. His mother was well-protected by four heavily armed guards and a Mark V handheld battle suit, making her safer than most world leaders.
"I suspect these people might target you. If they can't get to you, they might go after your mother."
William had initially been indifferent, but upon hearing that his mother could be a target, he became visibly angry. With a cold smirk, he said, "Who would have thought that the detector I casually developed would end up causing such trouble. Do you know the names, appearances, or whereabouts of these people?"
"I don't know where exactly they are," Yuri replied, seeing William's displeased expression and quickly adding, "Mr. Devonshire, you know I'm just an arms dealer. I barely have enough people to handle side jobs. If the deal is too dangerous, I have to bring in my brother for help. The only reason I found out these people came to London was through a North African associate. The moment I heard, I came straight to you."
William carefully observed Yuri's demeanor and used his mental abilities to sense his heart rate. After a moment of reflection, he realized Yuri truly didn't have much manpower and mainly operated his business with African and desert elites. His lack of influence in London made sense.
Still, the fact that Yuri had personally come to him was a surprise. After thinking it through, William understood that Yuri was looking to pivot his business and win William's favor. Since the turn of the millennium, global crackdowns on people like Yuri had intensified compared to the '90s. The golden age of arms dealing was over.
With people planning something in London and news of William's bomb-detecting watch circulating in the media, Yuri's intentions were clear.
