Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Alpha's Intentions

"S... Stanford Pines? That's a Western-style name."

Not just the name.

The man before Alpha is clearly a white individual in his late fifties, sporting a neutral expression.

'Regardless of his ethnicity, he remains a version of my father.'

A sufficient reasoning to diminish Alpha's antipathy toward him.

When you're too far ahead of your surroundings, you tend to see everyone as useless or simply practical.

An unforeseen and unknown situation for Gorou, since he never really had a feeling of total solitude.

Something avoided thanks to Miki and her subordinates.

Yet, Alpha feels this.

"Western? You do have similar facial features though, but the others."

Stanford is confused by the ethnic origin of Raynare, Kalawarna and Souji Okita.

But he noticed various "abnormal" things during his observation of the young women.

'Fallen angels? Or humans modified to adopt this appearance? And why are all these women so beautiful!'

Stanford Pines isn't a virgin.

But he never had a real relationship with a human woman or a creature close to this appearance.

As for his first time... he preferred to forget with whom or what he had to do it and his mental state at that moment.

That's why the appearance of these women didn't leave him indifferent.

Especially since Kalawarna possesses very good arguments to affect the mind of the scientist supposedly immunized to any alteration.

"Hump ~ good observation, but I'm actually Japanese because of genetic heritage on my father's side," Alpha explains in a nonchalant tone that reveals nothing of his real personality.

"Oh! Excuse me, you've been standing there when you come from far away. Allow me to provide you with proper hospitality."

At the albino woman's words and a subtle eye gesture, the black-haired fallen angel hurried to guide Stanford Pines to another location.

The scientist hesitated for a moment but ended up following Raynare after noticing the absence of any disarmament request.

A subtle diplomatic move aimed at quickly obtaining Stanford Pines' cooperation.

"I'll join you quickly, since I need to check certain things about the dimensional portal."

After a nod from Stanford, the two people were separated.

Alpha's "kind" face quickly disappeared.

"Souji... do you think you can neutralize him before he uses the 'Quantum Destabilizer'?"

(Image)

Alpha would really like to neutralize Stanford, but they're both incompatible.

She's a mage and a strategist, while Stanford has faced various creatures unknown to her data.

Especially since she estimates that her opponent possesses immunity to mental control and intelligence equivalent to her creator or close to it.

A fight between the two is just too risky.

"Q... Quantum Destabilizer, what?"

Faced with Souji's response, the woman in the white coat wanted to explode with fury at her stupidity.

But she controlled herself.

Alpha forgot that all their father's projects go through her and her brains.

This situation has made Rei and Souji dependent on her to maintain their equipment and technological installations at 100%.

"It's the weapon he has in his hands..."

Alpha began explaining to Souji the nature of the Quantum Destabilizer.

The Quantum Destabilizer is a weapon that uses a simple laser attack as "appearances" would suggest.

It's an existential information attack or, simply, a quantum attack.

It projects an energy beam at a specific frequency that "alters" the information of a subject and that of local reality.

The information composing the affected entity merges with the world, which ultimately leads to its destruction.

A situation similar to Zamasu, who fuses with the universe but without being able to preserve his self-consciousness and ends up assimilated by the mountain of information that is reality.

A brilliant invention? Isn't it?

Yet, Gorou was unable to recreate it quickly in DxD for several reasons.

First, this weapon isn't as simple to power with energy as the dimensional portal with its nuclear power.

The latter needs a special energy source located in the Paradox dimension.

As for its name? NowUSeeItNowUDon'tTium.

The second reason is a situation similar to that of the dimensional portal, which is annoying.

Gorou needed various elements that don't exist in this dimension.

Stanford borrowed these from various civilizations at the time, before studying them later.

As for the dimensional portal? Stanford stole parts from an extraterrestrial spacecraft in Gravity Falls.

Gorou had to rely on magic and the supernatural world to compensate for all this, since he didn't have a special ship on hand.

That's why the dimensional portal could be created without too much trouble, but not the Quantum Destabilizer.

Now, Alpha has a finished model in front of her...

She can't let it go without studying it directly.

'If diplomacy is impossible, then...'

The idea of assimilating the brain of an alternative version of her father poses no problem.

After all, it would accelerate research.

"I understand. You can count on me to retrieve this technology if he doesn't show himself cooperative."

Souji's words managed to bring out a sincere smile of satisfaction from Alpha.

....

While a tragedy is brewing within the DxD universe, the main culprit stands ready to leave the Brief residence grounds.

"Y... you're not gonna stay in the guest room?"

Tights' hesitant and reluctant voice didn't hide her desire to keep Gorou around.

"Sorry, but I have a company to run, and tons of projects on hold," he said in an apologetic tone.

"Hmm... I see."

Gorou hadn't lied.

He had come solely with the purpose of establishing a certain bond with the Brief family, and the hypnosis on Yamcha was just a bonus.

The current situation had simply exceeded his expectations.

'Bulma is still holding back because of Yamcha next to her, but Tights doesn't hesitate to show her growing interest...'

This result was inevitable, given their common interests and their lifestyle oriented toward technology and fiction.

They're just too compatible.

But Yamcha had accelerated things.

"Why are you making that funeral face? I have your address in East City, and we've already exchanged our contact info, right?"

"What do you mean, funeral face? I just find it unfortunate that we have to stay at a distance for so long."

After expressing her thoughts, Tights realized the scope of her words and quickly left the area.

A gesture judged cute by the scientist.

"I agree with Tights, it's unfortunate that you're very busy... but I hope to see you again soon for a rematch."

Faced with Yamcha's declaration, Gorou simply sketched a smile while nodding toward him.

"I'll come see you at Red Pharmaceuticals, so you better show me what your inventions are really worth."

Bulma gave him a friendly little punch that he didn't block.

"Trust me, you'll be very impressed by my inventions, but also in other areas, more biological ~"

"Ok, ok, you should leave now!"

Gorou's last words were tinted with a suggestive tone that Bulma immediately grasped, judging by her reddened face and furtive glances toward Yamcha, hurrying his departure.

Unfortunately, the muscle-head beside her understood nothing of Gorou's insinuations toward his girlfriend.

'As expected from someone incapable of riding Goku's cloud... Bulma knows a lot about adult interactions.'

Information that satisfied Gorou.
