Became the Queen of the Legion

Chapter 47 - How to Rule (7)

“We don’t have much time. If the Satyr army holding the front line is pushed back, even the chance for rescue will disappear.”

It was natural for Kruger’s mercenary group, which had steadily accumulated military achievements, to receive trust and support from the lords of the area.

This rescue mission they’ve taken on was also entrusted to Kruger by Lizardman Lord Turkan instead of sending his own warriors.

“Honestly, I don’t think those Satyrs will win. What’s the estimated time they can hold out?”

Grash asked about the estimated time. I agreed with Grash’s distrust of the Satyr troops.

They still seemed to be taking things lightly as if they hadn’t properly grasped the situation, and on the actual battlefield they arrived at, they were being mercilessly slaughtered by my soldiers.

Even though they had defensive facilities like defense turrets and installed spell barriers, they were fighting so poorly.

Without special measures, the time I estimate is just three days. Within three days, part of my main force will smash the Satyr troops guarding the path and advance to deeper areas.

“I don’t see them lasting long either. We’ll move without rest and finish everything within three days at least.”

I tipped off these facts to Kruger in advance under the guise of speculation, and he too acknowledged that the Satyrs wouldn’t hold out for long and accepted the three-day timeframe.

“Three days might be a bit tough, but we should follow the words of our captain with good intuition.”

“Let’s move right away.”

The mercenary group followed Kruger’s words absolutely. Because they had never suffered a loss by following Kruger’s words so far.

Of course, they didn’t realize that such a Kruger was moving according to my words.

“We hurry. Reaching the destination is the priority!”

We began to march as fast as possible without considering energy distribution. This area is still the rear, or a kind of safe zone, where my soldiers haven’t reached yet.

With all the lords in the area joining forces to wage war now, the only concern was whether we would arrive at the destination on time.

‘At this speed, we should arrive on time though.’

Baltor, one of the mounts of the demon realm resembling a large ostrich. Kruger’s mercenary group, mounted on these, all rushed towards their destination, the Lizardman fortress.

Even to the eyes of my nearby scout troops, the sight of my avatar moving with them is visible.

At this rate, they will encounter the forces surrounding the fortress. The mission given to the mercenary group was to break one of those encirclements and provide the troops inside the fortress with their superior’s orders and a chance to escape.

‘There’s no way they’ll fail the mission.’

I don’t even need to deliberately favor them. The only thing is that I know in advance but am not moving my troops, but from the start, I designed it so that Kruger’s mercenary group could always choose the best options.

Even if they engage in battle with some of my troops at this rate, I was confident that they could break through sufficiently and succeed in their mission.

* * *

“Those bastards, they’re waiting for us to die of thirst. How dare these evil creatures!”

A fortress that must guard the borders of the territory. A group of Lizardman troops trapped there gritted their teeth at the sight of the legion troops surrounding them.

The enemies, who had smashed the adjacent Lamia territory and continued to push forward without stopping, instead of sending troops to capture the fortress, blocked the path with a small force and conversely formed a defensive line.

In an instant, those inside the fortress were reversely trapped inside the castle.

“Captain, we need to try to break through before it’s too late. We’re almost out of food. We won’t last long like this!”

“Are you saying we should abandon this castle entrusted to us by the lord!”

Moreover, they couldn’t act autonomously. They had to move under the lord’s orders, but it was impossible to send news because the enemies were blocking the path.

The subordinates seemed to have a lot on their minds about this, but the defense captain, who held all the authority, was adamant. Without the lord’s orders, they absolutely couldn’t abandon this place and leave.

‘Do those crazy monster bastards really intend to kill everything living on this land?’

The defense captain climbed the watchtower and gritted his teeth as he raised his telescope towards a distant place.

The sight visible in the magnified view was spectacular.

To operate the digestive organs created to supply nutrients to the legion troops, countless workers and a few combat troops were hunting and inputting almost all living things existing on the surface.

They didn’t discriminate between animals and plants. Demonic beasts with hard carapaces, demonic beasts with deadly poison, plants with sharp thorns.

As if there was nothing they couldn’t digest, it was just a meal for them.

The Lizardman troops, including the defense captain, had to watch in anger as their land was being devastated right before their eyes.

Because they knew nothing about players or games, these northern monsters that appeared suddenly like a storm that blew in at some point looked just like a terrible calamity to them.

“Ca-Captain! The east gate! Come to the east gate!”

At that moment, a glimmer of possibility arose for them. The soldiers monitoring the east had discovered something and came looking for the defense captain in a fuss.

“What are you saying? Support has arrived?”

The surprised defense captain hurried to the eastern wall.

His subordinates’ report was certainly not false. A group of troops had launched an attack on the enemies surrounding and monitoring the eastern area. They charged fearlessly to break through the encirclement and engaged in battle with numerous enemies.

“They seem to be mercenaries. Their composition is very diverse.”

“That Orc warrior, he’s fighting quite well?”

The Lizardman troops murmured as they watched them fight. The sight of the Orc warrior at the forefront, skillfully splitting the heads of legion troops while wielding a huge greatsword, was certainly impressive.

And the Orc warrior wasn’t the only impressive one. They fought too well to be just a ragtag group of mercenaries.

“Are you just going to stand there gawking! They are clearly allies. Quickly open the gates. We must help them!”

The defense captain came to his senses around that time and urged his subordinates.

He instinctively realized that those who sent them were his superiors.

“It’s an order from the lord. Abandon the fortress and gather.”

“If it’s an order, we must do so. Quickly prepare to sortie! We’ll break through the east gate and join the main force!”

Kruger’s mercenary group, with the help of the Lizardman troops who had opened the gates and come out, finally broke through the encirclement and reached the castle before more enemy troops could arrive, delivering the lord’s orders to them.

The defense captain had no more reason to hesitate once he confirmed that the order was real. Once the order was given, he had to carry it out.

It was natural for the subordinates, who had been wanting to abandon the fortress and escape from the beginning, to brighten up. The defense captain smirked at the sight.

“By the way, all of you have remarkable combat prowess. Especially you, you don’t seem to be from the borderland Orcs.”

“I did come from the south.”

Meanwhile, the defense captain turned his gaze back to Kruger. Even to the eyes of an experienced commander, he was clearly a standout warrior.

“And it seems it’s not just combat prowess. From what I see, you all seem very adept at dealing with those demonic beasts.”

“We have faced them and survived several times.”

“We don’t even know properly due to the sudden attack. What on earth are those monsters?”

At his words, which seemed genuinely curious, Kruger flinched, and the silver-haired woman standing quietly beside him flashed her eyes.

“I don’t think anyone knows for sure yet. What their exact purpose is, what their true identity is.”

Kruger gave a rough explanation of how strong the legion troops attacking the area were and what they were doing.

At the same time, the defense captain’s eyes grew wider and wider.

Even just thinking about what he had heard, it was clearly not just a case of demonic beasts occurring en masse.

It was an event falling into the category of a great calamity that not only the lord he served, but all the demon races in the area were fighting with all their might.

“You may know, but the areas they’ve swept through turn into devastated lands without a single blade of grass left. Once the land is taken, it’s over. It would be impossible to restore that wasteland, wouldn’t it?”

“That’s absurd. No matter what, there’s no way they can’t win when all the neighboring lords ruling the area have joined forces… they’re just demonic beasts after all.”

“They are certainly not simple demonic beasts, and above all, not all lords have joined forces yet. That’s why the front line is being pushed back.”

Kruger smiled bitterly and looked to the east. Day by day, the front line is being pushed back and the devastated land is increasing, but the Hobgoblin territory is still quiet.

Both the legion and the Hobgoblins ignored each other as if they were unaware of each other’s existence.

‘It’s good for me.’

And there was only one force that would be happy to see this.
