Chapter 32 - Legion (2)
“We can’t let them escape. Each one is a nutrient source.”
From the view overlooking from the sky, the suicide squad was annihilated, and the enemies who could no longer stop our throwing troops were seen crumbling one by one.
Neither the enemies nor we have infinite stamina. Even if we move like machines, we still need energy, so the more fiercely we fight, the more stamina both sides consume.
However, in terms of energy efficiency, our allied soldiers, designed with bodies considering this from the moment of birth, had a slight advantage.
Our allied soldiers had cut away all useless bodily organs and could use nutrients more effectively as a result.
It was natural that those who exist solely for fighting could fight longer than those who don’t.
“Chase them.”
We didn’t let those trying to retreat go. It didn’t matter if a few of our soldiers died. Killing more enemies was profitable.
“N-no!”
From within the collapsed defensive formation, as a charging assault troop opened its large blades like scissors and crossed them in an instant, many enemies were cut to pieces, spraying blood as they fell to the ground.
Already more than half of the enemies had fallen victim to the common troops clinging from all directions and shooting poison stingers, and to the poison gas spread by the throwing troops.
‘This is good?’
If I were the enemy commander, how should I have dealt with my legion troops?
Thinking about it, I couldn’t come up with an answer easily.
Within the knowledge I had, no matter how much I racked my brain, it seemed there was nothing more the enemies could do.
In the end, the fundamental difference in class was the problem.
Orc Baron Zieg also rules his territory with a similar number of districts as I do now, but the level of productivity he extracts from there is on a completely different dimension.
[A race that exists solely for war and predation, that is the race you have created yourself]
As the system message said, I have raised my colony for a single purpose until now.
And I focused all the capabilities of the colony on that. Fighting and devouring.
Even if given areas of the same size, those who leisurely farm and raise livestock are too slow compared to us who cut down every root and seed in the land.
‘Is this the right path?’
Of course, there were times when I wondered if the path of evolution we’re currently walking is truly right.
It’s impossible to always win, and it’s impossible to fight forever.
The end of this endless fight is ultimately predetermined, so in fact, the entire colony, including myself, was running forward while burning our own bodies.
“…It’s okay. We just need to transcend even that. There must be a way.”
Gritting my teeth, I shook off the stray thoughts.
No matter how excellent my auxiliary brain is, capable of processing countless tasks simultaneously, there’s no reason to waste capacity on unnecessary thoughts.
For now, we just devour everything that exists before our eyes.
We just need to run focusing on that one thing.
‘Only the remnants of the defeated enemies remain. I’ll leave the cleanup to the main force, including Seira, and the remaining troops will immediately replenish nutrients and capture the remaining cities and villages.’
Having judged that we had already won the head-on power struggle, I immediately divided the troops.
Some troops would continue to chase and kill the enemies, while the rest would return to the cities they had been pounding to pounce on the residents who would be feeling relieved.
Doing this brings enormous gains from both sides.
By creating temporary bases in every occupied land and creating nests that can digest and distribute nutrients, our allied soldiers could move without rest.

“How could this happen…”
While the victorious side in the war was enjoying the joy of victory and acquiring spoils.
Those who were defeated and barely survived were in despair. Orc Baron Zieg had fled aimlessly to his stronghold, having lost almost all of his main forces mobilized this time.
But even though he had barely escaped alive, the problem wasn’t solved.
All that remained for him, who had desperately escaped from the monsters chasing to kill them, were just a few battered soldiers.
‘Those things won’t stop until they kill us all.’
It was a battle that neither Zieg nor his surrounding retainers had ever experienced before.
A survival competition that only ends when one side is completely annihilated, solely for the purpose of exterminating the other side and using them as nutrients.
It didn’t seem like they could obtain any mercy by surrendering and begging for their lives from those crazy beasts. Even if Zieg tried to save his subjects at the cost of his own life, it would be the same.
In reality, as long as the legion’s purpose was to secure nutrients, their surrender couldn’t be accepted anyway.
“What should we do now? Those things will be here soon!”
“Of course, we must request help from our neighbors, my lord. Although we still don’t know exactly what those crazy monsters are, they are creatures that absolutely must not be left alone. Everyone must join forces to repel them!”
“That’s right, Great Chief. We must contact Hobgoblin Count immediately. These are monsters that must be dealt with, putting everything else aside!”
His retainers who had seen and fought directly, and the surviving mercenaries, all had similar reactions.
The dismissive reactions of “aren’t they just mere demonic beasts” had completely disappeared, replaced by terror-stricken responses that they must somehow get help from their surroundings.
“You go and bring reinforcements.”
In the end, Zieg instructed his trusted retainers, along with a few mercenaries as witnesses, to go and ask for help from the lords who could be considered adjacent powers.
Meanwhile, he said he would be fighting here, mustering the very last of his capabilities.
“…We will definitely bring support. As quickly as possible.”
Those who were to leave had to depart with resolute expressions, leaving behind those who remained. Although they were leaving behind their families, homes, and all their possessions, there was no time for grand farewells or delays.
The monsters that had already defeated them were, as if tireless, literally destroying the eastern part of the territory.
Even at this moment, urgent news from there and refugees were flooding into Ingot, the center and largest city of the territory.
There were only terrible and despairing news, such as cities falling and villages being massacred.
“As expected, they’re probably sending messages around to neighboring areas, begging for help. I don’t think they’ll help easily, but if such a thing happens, it becomes troublesome. Before reinforcements arrive from neighboring territories, I need to capture that place and make the Orc Baron’s territory mine.”
“I will rush there right away.”
The Queen moved her troops without rest, watching the territory’s center where refugees were gathering and defensive postures were being strengthened in real-time.
Literally without rest. The legion’s troops merely received supplies at bases like cars refueling at gas stations, just enough nutrients needed for activity.
As soon as the resupply was over, they immediately set out for activity again.
Workers collected spoils around the bases and replenished nutrients, while combat troops moved mechanically, purely performing combat.
Thanks to this, the numerous large forces numbering over 10,000 could swoop down on the center of the territory in just a few days after sweeping through the eastern part of the territory.
“Th-these things…”
Zieg trembled as he saw the monsters swarming in front of the castle again after just a few days.
Gone was the confidence with which he had declared he would personally take the field and achieve victory; now he could only watch silently.
Even with sturdy castle walls built over a long time and expensive defensive turrets installed, it wasn’t enough to erase the already engraved fear.
“Let the throwing troops go first.”
Meanwhile, the Queen, as if already certain of victory this time as well, sent out numerous throwing troops first to aim at the castle.
“B-bombs! Poison bombs are flying in!”
Those who had already experienced the power of the biological bombs full of poison gas once before panicked and made a fuss upon seeing them.
“H-hold your positions! We can block them!”
The commanders struggled to control the spreading unrest, but the fear spreading from those already defeated was difficult to control easily.
In the meantime, countless bombs flying in unison from the throwing troops’ throws began to fall on the castle walls.
“Spread the barrier!”
Shamans and mages tried to block with barriers.
But this wasn’t something they could do indefinitely, and the barriers were full of holes, not even properly prepared.
The number of those staggering or screaming from poison intoxication increased here and there. Even if they were a minority, it was inevitable that cracks would form in the entire group because of this.
‘We don’t have to worry about that.’
The Queen smirked at this sight and gave the order for all troops to advance.
The Queen’s combat troops, who exist solely as teeth and claws for the colony, did not possess emotions like fear.
They were merely loyal parts willing to throw their bodies away for the mission.
