Chapter 10: Half a year later!
Zorai entered the dog house which was now his home and was surprised to see that his vision was better. The originally dim-lit room seemed bright. The lusterless wood making up the floors and walls appeared to be coated in a glistening veil. Zorai was confused and tried to touch it with his hand, but his hand seemed to not touch anything.
Zorai then recounted the information he had read in those books and realized this must be the qi from the wood. Zorai couldn't actually see atmospheric qi as his soul membrane hadn't formed, but through the rebounding of his own qi fluctuations against the qi from the wood, Zorai was able to perceive the qi contained within it.
Zorai sat down in lotus position and began to formulate a plan and list his gains and losses. 'Okay, so let's see. I am currently a Foundation Establishment realm cultivator, jumping straight from mortal to this stage, and from what I know, the method of advancing is to excrete impurities contained in qi, absorb more qi from the heavens, and then compress it to a small size of a baby fist, the more Qi gets compressed to such state, the higher and stronger I will be when I advance.
But currently, there are two problems halting my progress. First, I don't have a body cultivation technique to break through to Core Formation stage, so my pores and orifices can't be opened to absorb qi abundantly. This means my progress will be slowed down incredibly. Second, my dantian is damaged, and if I can't even move my qi freely, I'm sure it can't handle an advancement.
Alright, so until a year has passed, I'll put advancing off. Right now, I need money. I should join the Hunters' Association in town and sell the rank 1 demonic beasts I kill there. Also, with the money, I will be able to get more information on the what are Daos which will further let me understand my state, this should let me know if there ever exists anyone with the Dao of Extinction.
So the plan is: heal up, make money, and increase my knowledge on Daos and cultivation techniques.' Zorai smile, despite living in a dog house he currently didn't mind as he firmly believes within 2 years he will be in somewhere better so why can't he hold on till then? It's not that hard, right?
...
**Half a year later**
Zorai entered a small tavern that seemed to be on the brink of destruction. His long hair was dark and dead, his eyes were a bit colder, his skin pale and lifeless. He thrust a wolf corpse onto the bar.
"Angelica! You dumb whore, there were three packs nesting in Doe Forest! You said there were just a couple of strays! Did you want to kill me?!" Zorai's voice exploded through the tavern, lacking that childish tone he had half a year ago.
During the half-year, although Zorai was unable to advance, he had purified his qi many times over over and over and didn't dare use too much qi and only rely on his physical body which was growing stronger and stronger as he eat lot of meats.
"Haha. You're still alive, so don't go barking in here, you ugly bastard," an unpleasant voice belonging to a pock-faced woman mocked Zorai, though cold sweat ran down her back.
Zorai was about to explode—this wasn't the first time an encounter like the one with the Star Wolves, a rank 1 species in Doe Woods, had happened. It was obvious he was being harassed and bullied, and Zorai knew exactly who was behind it: his cousin Xin Li, the pock-faced girl's lover.
"Hmoh! You can't go about blaming her! She gives information and most at times a event lead to the information being outdated! What if the time she gave it to you, there wasn't truly any Star wolves but while heading there, something happened that made you cross path with them? Blame it on your bad luck which you had since birth." A crude voice came from the other side of the tavern. A boy wearing nice white clothes with a small bun of hair on top walked over. He looked about two years older than Zorai.
Zorai knew there was nothing he could do to Xin Li. If he attacked, the Xin family might use that as an excuse to take his funds or retaliate against him. Zorai stepped forward toward the counter, the aura he radiates, before a seasoned hunter might be weak but before the fat pig like woman was enough to make her tremble a bit especially with how cold and detached he looked at her as if her life wasn't worth a dime.
"Give me my money for the corpse," Zorai demanded. Angelica just laughed, hiding her nervousness behind the facade as she boldly handed Zorai a small silver coin.
"What the fuck is this?" Zorai asked, staring at the coin.
"Your pay," Angelica was about to answer, but Xin Li cut in.
"A Star Wolf corpse costs at least 3 gold for the pelt and 10 silver for the organs!" Zorai felt utterly aggrieved.
"Your wolf corpse just doesn't suit our needs. Its pelt is damaged, and the organs seem a little rotten," Angelica said without even glancing at the corpse.
Zorai felt the overwhelming desire to tear this ugly bitch in two, but he knew the power behind the Hunter Club wasn't something he could challenge. Her boyfriend wouldn't just let him act freely, and Zorai knew he'd have to fight Xin Li as well—which was even worse.
Zorai restrained his actions, but not his anger. Pure bloodlust, refined over half a year of constant killing, combined with the faint aura of Extinction, shook Angelica to her core a bit. Zorai then turn around to leave as Angelica began sweating profusely, her face turning purple.
"Did you get the Law of Death recognition from killing your worthless mother? Ah, that whore—I should have fucked her before you killed her. I mean, would Grandma really have cared? She was just a substitute for Uncle. She was such a pathetic, disgusting woman," Xin Li taunted.
Zorai could handle a lot of things—being beaten, bullied, even killed—but he couldn't stand anyone speaking ill of his mother. In the past, the Xin family wouldn't go to such extremes to provoke Zorai, but Xin Li hated dealing with such a "mongrel" and decided to push things further.
A cold despair sucked all light and joy from the air, with Zorai at its center. A red, demonic eye fixed itself on Xin Li. Zorai lunged forward, his fist saturated with dense Qi as he ignored the strain it put on his healing meridians.
Xin Li was paralyzed in shocked as he didn't expect such attack, but his survival instincts which was earned from training in the ways of sword kicked in, reminding him of what his grandmother had given him. He pulled out a scroll and channeled his qi into it as fast as he could.
Zorai saw this and realized the Xin family truly wanted him dead—because the scroll was an enchanted scroll!
