Chapter 195: Shizi Dogs vs. Longyu Dragons
"The Longyu Dragons get the possession of the ball with their towering center, Riley!" Bao exclaimed in a sharp voice.
Those on the second-string team were the only ones who could hear him, yet they were amused by their peer.
"You know, you might actually be a good announcer with your voice and intonation," Alen said.
Bao smiled and scratched the back of his head. "Well, it's always been something I've considered."
"Then, you should go for it," Mingze chimed.
Bao shook his head. "It's not a practical course. My mom always wanted me to become a doctor, so I'm planning on doing just that," he said, sounding like he was trying to convince himself.
"Guys, shh!" Tony exclaimed, his eyes focused on the court. "The Longyu Dragons had scored!"
They turned their attention to the court, and Fenhua Zhong scored the first point of the day.
The Shizi Dogs on the bench turned to each other in amazement. They were already aware that Fenhua was one of the best players in Longyu Dragons and had the best leadership, so they weren't too surprised.
Fenhua Zhong's specialty lies in his speed and ability to shoot from the inside of the paint.
He was almost like a center without the power of rebounding.
Despite his short height, his accuracy in shooting was greater than most of the players in the high school basketball league who had a much taller height.
Because of this, he was called the 'Yao Ming' of Longyu High. It was an ironic nickname, especially since Yao Ming was a very tall player.
Nonetheless, it was because he was almost as tall as Yao Ming in terms of playing prowess.
Meanwhile, Yuze nodded in acknowledgment, feeling giddy since they were playing with THE Longyu Dragons.
When else would they have the chance to do just that?
Lina, too, felt like she was going to explode since she was so excited.
"Are you not going to make a strategy this time?" Jinping asked, sitting the first half out.
Your journey continues at empire
Lina shook her head. "I want to analyze how they play without my guidance."
"It's been around a month since we've trained formally. I want to see how the guys have improved," she said, her eyes focused on the court.
"Well, wouldn't you want the court to belong to us for the afternoon?" Jinping asked with a small frown.
"Of course I do," Lina said. "However, the best teacher is experience. If they do lose this particular game, then it would be indicative that they needed to improve even more if they want to win in the Interhigh Preliminaries."
"However," she continued a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"I don't think they would let the team lose," she said, gesturing to the court.
Jinping raised his eyebrows in surprise when he saw Kai hanging from the ring, seemingly having done a slam dunk.
"Wooh!" Lina exclaimed. "Nice one, Kai!"
The score was now at a tie.
2-2.
However, Kai's shot was more impressive, leaving a lasting impression on both teams.
Yuze frowned as they ran to the other side of the court.
Zeren, too, felt like Kai had changed a lot since the last time he saw him.
However, he couldn't quite pinpoint what it was, so he continued to play earnestly.
Fenhua, on the other hand, found the Shizi Dogs much better than his expectations.
The Longyu Dragons had played with plenty of top teams in the past, and the Shizi Dogs had almost the same vibe as them.
He didn't want to say that out loud, though.
Fenhua and Riley initiated a play, one that earned them another two points.
2-4.
Yuze, wanting to show the Longyu Dragons that they also had great teamwork, initiated a play with Kun.
They prepared to do an alley-oop, with Kun being the one to throw the ball.
However, because of his nervousness, Kun missed the mark and aimed the ball to the other side of the ring—where Yuze wasn't around to dunk the ball.
Lina clicked her tongue in disappointment. Kun had undoubtedly improved during the Winter Cup. However, it was also evident that he still had a lot of nerves especially during official games.
Although he had already been playing for three years, it still felt like he was an amateur.
Despite having good foundations, he was a player that was prone to mistakes.
Lina ignored it for the past year because she was afraid that she would discourage Kun.
However, now that they had come thus far, she wanted to curate the training camp to cater to their weaknesses.
She wrote it down in her notebook and watched the game once more.
Her eyes quickly widened when she saw Kai hanging on the ring once more.
"What the heck?" she muttered. "Did he do a slam dunk once again?"
Jinping clicked his tongue. "That guy anticipated Kun's mistake," he said.
"I don't know how he did it, but he jumped up perfectly for the alley-oop," he continued.
Lina hummed in pleasant surprise.
Meanwhile, Kun, ready to apologize, raised his eyebrows in surprise since the play turned out successful!
Yuze shook his head and patted Kun's back.
"Be careful next time," he said, causing Kun to nod.
4-4.
Riley clicked his tongue as he watched the scoreboard. He turned to the side and saw that Fenhua had a similar expression to him.
"There's something strange about this team," Fenhua muttered.
Zeren had the same thought as the Longyu Dragons.
"There's something strange about Kai," he said through gritted teeth, watching as he landed another shot.
However, this time, it was from the free-throw line—the mid-range shot that he had been practicing during the near-end of the Winter Cup.
Meanwhile, Dafu, their team's shooting guard, nudged Fenhua's shoulder.
"Doesn't he remind you of someone?" he asked.
Fenhua clicked his tongue, glancing at their bench and finding the impatient-looking first-year student bouncing his legs on the bench.
"Let's bring him in," Fenhua said.
Meanwhile, the first-year player let out a deep breath.
"Why are they letting that guy with the weird hair dominate the game?" he muttered.
"I would understand if it was Yuze—since he's actually a good player. But this guy! There's no way!"
One of the players nudged Guri's shoulder, making him snap back to reality.
"What?" he sighed.
"Substitution."
"They want you to play."
