Chapter 44: Awakening Observation Haki,
____
"Ong!!!!"
At a certain moment, Katsumi found himself entering a unique state. His entire body felt transparent, as if he could sense everything within a radius of hundreds of meters around him.
This was especially true for the snowballs that were constantly being thrown at him. It felt as if time itself had paused, and the snowballs hung motionless in mid-air.
Observation Haki had awakened!
With newfound ease, Katsumi dodged the incoming snowballs. At the same time, he continued throwing snowballs at Mikoto, who had yet to awaken her own Observation Haki.
As he dodged and threw, he opened his attribute panel with a thought. Sure enough, there was a new skill listed in the skill column:
[Observation Haki (1/1000, Entry Level)]
"Huh? The upper limit for entry-level proficiency is 1000? That's ten times higher than the Chakra Refining Technique," Katsumi muttered.
"Doesn't that mean each subsequent stage will also be at least ten times higher?"
Perhaps even more.
"This means it'll take significantly longer to reach perfection or even break through the limit," Katsumi thought, feeling a headache coming on.
However, considering the difficulty, rarity, and high potential of the skill, this was understandable.
"Hmm?"
At this moment, Mikoto noticed something different about Katsumi. His movements became more fluid, and he seemed completely at ease, dodging effortlessly while still managing to throw snowballs without being hit.
Unable to contain her curiosity, she called out, "Katsumi, did you successfully awaken Observation Haki?"
"Yes!" Katsumi nodded confidently while dodging. "I just awakened it. Do you want to continue?"
"Continue!" Mikoto gritted her teeth and nodded firmly.
Katsumi had awakened it, but as his elder sister, she couldn't afford to fall behind.
"Are there any tips?" she asked while trying to dodge the snowballs.
Distracted by her question, Mikoto was hit again.
"Calm down and focus entirely on dodging. That's the only trick!" Katsumi advised.
"Mikoto, your mental strength and talent are sufficient. You just need to believe in yourself!"
He smiled and added, "Next, I'll increase the frequency and angles of my throws. Be ready!"
"I believe you can do it! Here it comes!"
"Okay!" Mikoto nodded, forcing herself to calm down. His encouragement eased her anxiety, and she steadied her mind.
The next moment:
"Swish, swish, swish!!!"
Snowballs rained down on her like a storm, coming from all directions. The speed was more than twice as fast as before, and the angles were far trickier.
Mikoto could no longer spare any attention to throwing snowballs herself—dodging alone took all her focus.
Even so, she was repeatedly hit.
But Mikoto gritted her teeth and persevered. She forced herself to focus, blocking out all distractions.
Her eyes began to tinge red, a sign of her Sharingan awakening. However, Mikoto suppressed it.
Kaori's guidance had proven that activating the Sharingan would hinder Observation Haki's awakening instead of promoting it.
Concentrate. Focus. Again and again.
Mikoto felt as if she was on the verge of a breakthrough, just a hair's breadth away from awakening Observation Haki.
She didn't know how much time had passed. Her sense of time itself faded as she immersed herself in pure focus.
Then, at a certain moment:
"Ong!!"
A rush of clarity enveloped her. Her spirit felt elevated, and a buzzing filled her head.
The entire world seemed to transform, becoming astonishingly vivid.
She could sense every movement and even visualize everything within a range of dozens of meters. The snowballs flying at her from all directions appeared to slow down.
Observation Haki had awakened!
"Swish, swish, swish!"
Mikoto effortlessly dodged the incoming snowballs with precision and grace.
The snowball barrage abruptly ceased.
Katsumi had noticed the change in her and stopped his attacks.
"Congratulations!"
Katsumi walked forward with a smile and said, "Congratulations."
"Huff, huff, huff…"
Mikoto, still panting, rested her hands on her knees but smiled. "Thank you! This time, it's all thanks to you. Without your help, I don't know how long it would've taken me to awaken." She added sincerely, "Your experience was really useful."
"Squeak!"
At that moment, the sound of a door opening drew their attention.
Both turned to see Kureha stepping out of the house, her expression one of shock.
She stared at them and exclaimed, "You two actually awakened Observation Haki! This is incredible! And the difference between your awakenings was just a few minutes! How did you manage that?"
Observation Haki wasn't something easy to awaken.
Even in the world of pirates, it was a skill possessed by only a select few. Most people would never awaken it, no matter how hard they tried.
In fact, there were many strong Armament Haki users who hadn't managed to awaken Observation Haki.
Unlike Armament Haki, which could be achieved through rigorous physical training, Observation Haki required a combination of mental strength and a sixth sense that surpassed the usual five.
Its awakening depended heavily on innate talent.
"Hehe."
Katsumi and Mikoto exchanged a knowing smile.
"We have some special awakening techniques," Katsumi said.
Kureha rolled her eyes. "Do you think I didn't hear your earlier conversation? If awakening Observation Haki was as simple as 'focusing on dodging,' it wouldn't be so rare!"
She continued, "It's obvious that the Uchiha clan has a natural talent for spiritual perception."
The unique eyes of the Uchiha were clearly tied to their spiritual power and possibly even their souls. She had observed this in both Uchiha Kaori and Mikoto.
However, Katsumi didn't seem to have awakened these traits yet.
Kureha suspected it was simply a matter of age. With his talent, his awakening was just a matter of time.
"Maybe," Katsumi replied, slightly stunned by her observation but choosing not to comment further.
"Alright! Now that you've succeeded, stop this noisy training. I can't concentrate on my reading with all the commotion!"
After her blunt remark, Kureha turned and headed back into the house.
Katsumi and Mikoto exchanged amused glances before smiling at each other.
"Let's call it a day?" Xuan Qing suggested.
"Agreed. I also want to test and explore the specifics of Observation Haki," Mikoto said with a nod. "I'll head back first."
With that, Mikoto teleported back to the Ninja World.
A moment later, Katsumi followed.
The first thing he saw upon returning was Kaori setting dishes on the table.
"You're back? It's time to eat. Wash your hands first!" she called out.
Mikoto was already walking towards the kitchen.
"Okay!" Katsumi responded promptly.
He went to his room to change into lighter clothes, washed his hands, and returned to the dining room to sit down.
"I heard from Mikoto that you both awakened Observation Haki?" Kaori asked as they began eating.
"Yes!" Katsumi replied while chewing on a piece of meat.
"Very good! That's quite a coincidence," Kaori said with a smile. "With Observation Haki, your survival ability will greatly improve in the future.
"Make sure to continue practicing it diligently," she advised. "Not only will it enhance your perception and evasion, but it will also strengthen your mental power.
"It's like killing two birds with one stone. For now, I feel it's even better than the Uchiha meditation method."
After a moment's thought, she added, "Of course, I'm not saying you should abandon meditation altogether.
"Meditation and Observation Haki can complement each other. Don't neglect either. Do you understand?"
"Yes!"
Both Katsumi and Mikoto nodded in agreement, taking her words to heart.
This was Kaori's insight, gained from her study of Observation Haki over time.
