Chapter 187: Chapter 187 – Black Zetsu’s Interrogation

When he had finished dealing with his affairs, Black Zetsu emerged from the ground to block Hyuga Gakuya, who was about to head to Konohagakure for the Six Nations Conference.

His face dark with anger and suspicion, Black Zetsu glared at him.

"Hyuga Gakuya, everything you've done… it's completely different from what we originally planned!"

According to Black Zetsu's expectations, Gakuya was supposed to capture the Nine-Tails during the infiltration operation—not throw himself into the ranks of the Five Great Nations.

But Gakuya's face remained calm and unreadable. He stared back at Black Zetsu and replied,

"Plans never keep up with change, Black Zetsu. Too many unforeseen variables emerged during the assault on the Nine-Tails. The Five Great Nations have already united."

"Orochimaru and Uchiha Obito have both betrayed me. Orochimaru has even taken control of Obito. Now they're trying to make themselves the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki."

"If we tried to forcefully seize the Nine-Tails in this situation, we'd only be throwing ourselves into a trap."

"They've got more pieces on the board than I do. They've stolen control of my Edo Tensei army, they could resurrect Uchiha Madara at any moment, and they even have Nagato's Rinnegan. Our only chance to maneuver is to join the Five Great Nations—only then can we create new opportunities."

A dangerous light flared in Gakuya's eyes as if he were truly enraged by the betrayal. He growled,

"One day, I will kill that bastard Orochimaru!"

Black Zetsu began to calm down. When White Zetsu had reported the news, he had immediately come to find Gakuya to confirm the situation himself—but he hadn't expected this outcome.

"Wasn't Orochimaru your subordinate? Why would he suddenly betray you?" Black Zetsu asked warily.

In his eyes, Gakuya had always been a power-hungry madman—useful, but dangerous. Still, he couldn't afford to let his guard down.

"He betrayed Danzo before him. Why wouldn't he betray me?" Gakuya's voice was ice cold.

Black Zetsu was silent for a long moment, clearly mulling over Gakuya's words.

Eventually, he said, "In that case, what's your plan for navigating this alliance with the Five Great Nations?"

Gakuya's gaze turned distant. "Stoke conflict between them. Lay low for now. Wait patiently for the right moment."

"I was overthinking things," Black Zetsu muttered, a cunning glint flashing in his eyes. "Your strategy is flawless. I was wrong to doubt you."

With that, he sank back into the ground and vanished without a trace.

Gakuya stared at the spot where Black Zetsu had disappeared, deep in thought.

He had deliberately revealed the possibility of Uchiha Madara's resurrection—just enough to stir Black Zetsu into action.

This would provoke other desires in him, and from there, Gakuya could begin manipulating Madara according to the original plan.

With that, Gakuya activated Kamui and vanished on the spot.

...

Upon arriving at Konohagakure, the first thing Gakuya saw was Hinata and Hanabi waiting for him at the village gate. As soon as he appeared, the two girls ran up to him, their faces lit with joy.

Hanabi threw her arms around Gakuya's arm without hesitation. Hinata, more reserved, still gently wrapped herself around the other.

Looking at the two sisters, a gentle smile softened Gakuya's face.

"Gakuya," Hanabi said brightly, "you should stay for a few more days this time. Let us take care of you."

Gakuya shook his head lightly.

"There are still many things that need my attention. Uchiha Obito and the others aren't dealt with yet. A lot of the trouble out there was caused by me—I need to clean it up myself."

"I've come this time to attend the Six Nations Summit. We're going to discuss how to confront them."

Hinata looked up at him, eyes full of understanding and support.

"Gakuya… please, be careful."

Hanabi nodded firmly. "We believe in you. You'll make it through."

Gakuya smiled and gently ruffled their heads.

"Don't worry. Once the storm passes, I'll spend some proper time with both of you."

They chatted as they walked, eventually arriving in front of the conference hall.

Gakuya suddenly stopped.

"I'll be arranging for the two of you to go to the Federation soon. The war's about to break out—I can't leave you here unprotected."

Hinata blinked in surprise, then quickly said, "We can take care of ourselves. We don't want to be a burden."

Hanabi clenched her fists, her expression resolute.

"We're not going to be your weakness. We want to stay in Konoha and support you."

Gakuya let out a quiet sigh.

"It's not about being a burden. It's because I care about you. The situation's unstable. You'll be much safer in the Federation."

Hinata bit her lip, about to argue again.

But Hanabi tugged on her sleeve and whispered, "Okay. We'll do what you say."

Gakuya nodded, his eyes filled with warmth.

"Once this is over, we'll finally be together—truly."

He turned and headed for the meeting hall, while Hinata and Hanabi stood there watching his back, eyes gradually filling with tears.

Gakuya couldn't let them be part of this—not if he wanted to keep the plan on track. And this also reinforced the image he needed to maintain in front of the Five Great Nations.

...

When Gakuya entered the hall, the Five Kage were already seated.

In that instant, all eyes turned toward him—some were complicated, some were angry, and some were quietly relieved.

Gaara's was perhaps the most conflicted. Gakuya was both the man who had killed his father and the one who had saved his life.

The most furious, naturally, was the Raikage, A. The moment he saw Gakuya, he looked ready to leap across the table and cut him down—but he knew full well he didn't stand a chance. That grudge might never be settled in this lifetime.

The others, having witnessed Gakuya's power firsthand, were simply relieved he had "chosen the right side."

Unbothered by the stares, Gakuya strode calmly to his seat and sat down.

It was the Tsuchikage, Onoki, who broke the silence first, his tone laced with suspicion.

"Hyuga Gakuya, how can we be sure you're truly here to cooperate?"

Gakuya met his gaze with steady eyes.

"Onoki, the world's on the brink of collapse. I chose this path—so I'll give it everything I've got."

The Mizukage, Mei Terumi, pursed her lips slightly. Her eyes were skeptical.

"Your actions before this make it hard to trust you. What guarantee do we have that you won't turn on us again?"

Gakuya's brow furrowed slightly. His voice deepened.

"We simply chose different paths. But I believe in you. I believe you have the power to change this world. That belief… should be enough."

The Raikage slammed his fist on the table.

"Different paths?! You've killed countless innocents! And now you expect us to write it all off with some philosophical excuse?"

Gakuya looked at him, noting the bandages still wrapped around A's chest. His voice dripped with disdain.

"Don't tell me you're that naive, Raikage. People die in war. That's normal."

"Besides, I don't recall doing much damage to Kumogakure. The people I killed were all resurrected by the previous leader of Akatsuki."
