Chapter 173: Chapter 173 – Kurama Mode

Just then, a sudden burst of smoke exploded in front of Might Guy. From afar, a toad from Mount Myōboku performed the Summoning Technique—Naruto had arrived.

Draped in his Sage cloak, Naruto appeared and wasted no time. Without even raising a hand, he activated Frog Kata. An invisible force veered the Truth-Seeking Orb away from Guy, sending it hurtling off into the distance.

"Naruto... You sure took your time," muttered Hyuga Gakuya. The scene mirrored the moment from the Fourth Great Ninja War—Naruto making a cool, last-minute entrance to save Guy.

But unlike back then, this Naruto didn't have the power of the Yang half of Kurama to save a man who had opened the Eighth Gate of Death.

Naruto's eyes went wide. Though he was a shinobi, he had never experienced war—never witnessed such a hellish scene. Blood and shattered bodies littered the ground like a battlefield torn from nightmares.

He saw the distant battles still raging—and among them, he saw his father.

Sensing his son's arrival through the Yin half of Kurama inside him, Minato turned his head and shouted,

"Naruto! Try to connect with the Nine-Tails—understand it! Break the hatred in its heart! You're the only one who can stop this. I believe in you—because you're my son!"

"Dad…" Naruto whispered, heart aching. He turned sharply toward Gakuya, eyes burning with fury.

"Mokushū, what the hell are you doing?!"

Gakuya's expression didn't change. "Naruto, this is a necessary step to reshape the world."

Naruto's eyes blazed. "Reshape?! This is annihilation!"

Gakuya narrowed his eyes.

"It's just a different method. This world is broken—it must be changed."

"Give me the Nine-Tails, Naruto. I'll help you achieve your dream. I can make you Hokage. Isn't that what you've always wanted?"

Naruto spread his arms, in disbelief that the person before him was once a friend. He clutched his chest in pain.

"My dream… Your dream… None of that's supposed to be built on this kind of madness! You've lost yourself, Mokushū."

"I do want to be Hokage—but not like this. I still remember what you once told me: that it's not becoming Hokage that earns love—it's being loved that makes someone Hokage. Are you going to take that back now?"

"And no—I'm not handing over Kurama. He's my father's gift to me! Even if he's caused me pain, I'll protect him!"

Naruto's eyes burned with fierce resolve as he stared Gakuya down.

"And right now, what I have to do… is stop you!"

...

Within Naruto's inner world, Kurama had gone silent as he listened to Naruto and Minato's words.

Naruto was fighting to protect him.

He could've handed Kurama over for power, for safety—and yet he refused without hesitation. Maybe… this kid really was different from all the other humans.

Even after all this time together, Kurama had never sensed hatred in Naruto's heart. Even when facing the man who killed his parents, Naruto was angry—but not consumed by vengeance.

Kurama let out a long breath, then bared his fangs in a grin.

"Alright, kid. Release the seal. If we're going up against someone like that, we've gotta work together. And… my name's Kurama."

Naruto spun around, eyes lighting up. "Got it, Kurama!"

Without hesitation, Naruto unraveled the seal Minato had placed on him. He reached out and bumped fists with the Nine-Tails.

...

Gakuya sneered. "You're still so naïve, Naruto. This world doesn't work the way you think it does. Your ideals are meaningless."

But the moment Naruto linked with Kurama, an explosive surge of chakra erupted around him. His entire form began to change.

The Sage cloak was overtaken by radiant golden light, transforming into a glowing robe that shimmered with an overwhelming, mysterious power.

Magatama symbols appeared around his collar, pulsing with deep, ominous energy.

His hair spiked upward like flickering flames. His eyes sharpened—the golden irises now slitted like a fox's, overlapping with Sage Mode's cross-shaped pupils.

Clenching both fists, his golden coat fluttering wildly, Naruto shouted,

"Then let's see for ourselves! I'll bring you back to your senses if I have to beat it into you!"

Gakuya's thoughts raced. Just as I expected… Under pressure, Naruto had finally reached harmony with Kurama—and entered Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.

This was the strongest state Naruto had ever achieved before receiving the Six Paths power—already brushing against that divine threshold.

...

While the confrontation between Naruto and Gakuya heated up, elsewhere, the battle involving the four reincarnated Kage was drawing to a close.

Gaara had already sealed his father. Their final conversation was deeply moving. The title of "weakest Kazekage" was, it seemed, well earned by Rasa.

With Gaara joining the battle, the other three Kage were soon sealed as well.

Mu's next move was predicted by Ōnoki, who struck with Gaara's help, destroying most of his body before he could regenerate. He was sealed moments later.

Hōzuki Gengetsu's weakness was known by Mei Terumi, the Mizukage. With the combined effort of three Kage, he was defeated and sealed.

Even Minato was overwhelmed by Jiraiya—now in Sage Mode—and Gaara's combined assault. Sand engulfed every kunai marked with the Flying Thunder God seal, cutting off his teleportation. He was successfully sealed as well.

...

Meanwhile, Tsunade and the allied shinobi from the Five Great Nations were struggling against the Six Paths of Pain.

To buy time, Tsunade made a critical misstep and was restrained by Preta Path, which drained the vast majority of the chakra stored in her Yin Seal, rendering her nearly powerless.

The allied forces were also suffering heavy losses. Under the onslaught of Chibaku Tensei and Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion—techniques that mowed down enemies like cannon fire—their morale was crumbling.

Gakuya and Nagato had proven, through blood and devastation, that battles at this level were beyond what ordinary shinobi could survive.

...

On the Akatsuki side, the Six Paths of Pain now stood beside Gakuya.

Opposing them, behind Naruto, stood Jiraiya, Tsunade, Gaara, Ōnoki, and Mei Terumi—five formidable Kage-level warriors.

Gakuya smiled, not withholding his praise.

"As expected of those who carry the title of Kage. You've wrapped up your fights faster than I anticipated. You've even surpassed the generation before you. And Naruto… you truly surprised me. You've mastered Kurama's power perfectly."

"But now… it's time to stop playing."

Despite being outnumbered, Gakuya smiled calmly. He raised his hand and snapped his fingers.

"Let the father-son showdown begin."
