Chapter 8: Pain And Rest
Activating his Unique Skill, Out Of Body Experience, had resulted in Tyberius's consciousness being forcefully extracted from his physical body.
Now severed from flesh and blood, his disembodied mind needed a vessel, a shape to give form to thought. The void didn't offer options, yet instinct did. Without overthinking it, his mind took on the form most fitting, most symbolic of his current state: a ghost.
It didn't have to be a ghost. It could have been anything. A wisp, a shadow, even a blade of light. But for Tyberius, the concept of a ghost, something trapped between life and death, between vengeance and peace, it felt the most appropriate. Also thinking of the intangible form he took on, a ghost was the right calling.
[Through ownership of the Unique Skill: Out Of Body Experience, you have acquired the Skill: Astral Projection.]
A voice echoed within his mind, clear, calm, emotionless. But Tyberius barely noticed it.
His eyes, now translucent and glowing with ghostly energy, were fixed on one thing.
Robert.
The man was walking away. Carrying his body like a sack of meat. As if it were just spoils of war.
No.
Tyberius's soul burned with fury.
He couldn't allow Robert to walk away. Not after what he did. Not after how he enjoyed doing it.
And so, acting on impulse, Tyberius did the only thing that made sense to him in that moment.
He dove.
His spectral form shot downward, cutting through the air like a streak of vengeance. He didn't know what would happen next. He didn't plan. He just acted.
[Through ownership of the Unique Skill: Out Of Body Experience, you have acquired the Skill: Astral Possession.]
And then it happened.
The moment his spirit collided with Robert's body, he felt something click. A sudden pull, a suction of consciousness and before he could process the feeling,
He was in.
He didn't just enter Robert. He took over.
Complete control. Full domination. Every limb. Every breath. Every thought.
From there, everything unfolded. A one-sided massacre, Robert's own body, turned against him. A perfect execution orchestrated by the very soul he thought he had destroyed.
Now, it was over.
Tyberius hovered above the carnage in his ghostly form once more. The possession had ended. His revenge fulfilled. Robert lay crushed and unrecognizable. Justice had been delivered not by the hand of fate, but by Tyberius himself.
A thought struck him.
"What if I try entering my own body again?"
It was worth trying.
Without wasting a moment, he descended toward his original body, the pale, bloodied goblin form that still lay crumpled and unmoving nearby.
As his ghostly shape made contact with his skin, a familiar pull returned.
And suddenly, he was back.
---
Pain.
An explosion of suffering surged through every fiber of his being.
His muscles screamed as if torn apart, his nerves flared like fire racing through his veins, and his skull throbbed as though pierced by hundreds of invisible needles, all digging deeper with every second.
He couldn't scream. Couldn't move. Couldn't even breathe properly.
All he could do was lie there and endure.
This pain was inhuman.
No creature, goblin, man, or monster should feel this and survive.
But survive, he did.
So, he remained still. Not by choice, but by necessity. His body was paralyzed, overwhelmed by the torment of spiritual and physical reintegration. Rest was his only refuge now.
And as he lay in his agony, the voice returned.
[Notice: You have slain an F Ranked Human.]
[Existential Point increased.]
[1% to Evolution.]
'Did I get... stronger?' The thought floated through the haze of pain.
He needed answers. And through sheer will alone, he summoned what little strength he had to access the only reliable source of information he possessed:
[Tyberius Gribnakh] – Origin
True Name: Tyr'Vorrnakh el'Durakai
Race: Goblin (Unique Monster)
Existential Value: F- (Prey)
Existential Points: 10 | 100
Racial Trait: Limitless Evolution (Unique)
Unique Ability: Out Of Body Experience
{Out Of Body Experience}: Astral Projection, Astral Possession
[1% to Evolution]
Even through the fog of agony, his mind processed the numbers.
Ten points.
He had gained ten existential points.
Robert had been an F ranked human. Despite all his physical might, his size, power, and training, he was only a step above Tyberius.
Tyberius, who was F-.
And yet, he had won.
Not through strength.
Through strategy. Through vengeance.
It was sobering and revealing.
The disparity between humans and goblins wasn't just in muscle and steel. It was in the very system that governed existence. Goblins were born lower, lived weaker, and died sooner.
It wasn't fair. And now, he had proof.
But that didn't discourage him.
No... Tyberius felt hopeful.
Despite being born into weakness, despite the odds, he had felled someone stronger. And in doing so, proved that his Unique Skill wasn't just some novelty.
It was a game-changer.
A skill that offered more than survival, it offered potential.
Sure, it had nearly killed him. Sure, the pain was worse than anything he could've imagined.
But the outcome?
Worth it.
He now had not just one, but two skills birthed from his Unique Ability:
Astral Projection – The ability to separate soul from body.
Astral Possession – The power to take over another's body.
It was becoming clear that his Unique Skill was more than just a gimmick. It was a path, one that could evolve, grow stronger, and perhaps, someday, rewrite what it meant to be a goblin.
For the first time since his rebirth, Tyberius didn't see his future as bleak or hopeless.
He saw opportunity.
And amid that rekindled flame of optimism, a thought lingered:
'Could there be more skills tied to Out Of Body Experience?'
He didn't know yet.
But he would find out.
Maybe just not now.
If he pushed himself again, he was certain his body would fail him completely.
He wasn't ready.
Not yet.
For now, he would endure the pain, survive the discomfort, and wait until his body was whole again. When that time came, he would explore every facet of this strange and powerful gift.
He would experiment, adapt, evolve.
And most importantly,
He would rise.
