The helicopter landed on the harbor, its blades cutting through the downpour like a razor. Lois Lane disembarked, signaling the pilot to take off immediately.
After all, Gotham was no place to linger tonight.
Lois jogged toward the site of the chaos. She'd barely taken a few steps when the once-proud skyscraper that had served as their battlefield began to collapse.
That building had been through hell tonight: first smashed through by a superpowered brawl, then sliced apart by scorching heat vision. Its structure could take no more, crumbling into a heap of twisted steel and concrete.
---
On the rooftop, Azur floated just above the ground, watching the collapse unfold beneath him. He waited until the building had been reduced to ruins before descending to the ground.
Clark reappeared in the distance, his flight slower than usual due to lingering effects of the kryptonite gas, but his determination undeterred.
"This isn't the time for fighting," Clark said, his voice tinged with desperation. "Martha has been taken! I have to save her!"
Azur gave a casual shrug. "And that has what to do with me?"
He knew exactly who Martha was—Lex had given Clark a one-hour ultimatum, just as in the movie. Soon, Batman would intervene to save her. There was no reason for Azur to involve himself.
But Clark didn't see it that way. His frustration boiled over, his eyes blazing a furious red.
"No one—no one—will stop me from saving Martha. Not even you!"
With that, twin beams of heat vision shot from Clark's eyes, searing through the rain like crimson lightning.
Azur responded with his own heat vision, the golden beams clashing against Clark's. The collision of energies erupted into an explosion that engulfed the battlefield in fire and smoke.
The blast hurled Clark backward, his body skidding across the wet ground. He struggled to rise, weakened but undeterred.
From the rubble of the destroyed building, shards of concrete burst outward as Batman emerged. His armored suit sparked with damaged circuitry, yet he charged forward with unrelenting resolve.
Clark, shaking off the blow, saw Batman leap at Azur, only to be swatted aside with a casual swipe. The force sent Bruce tumbling across the ground, his cape fluttering like a broken banner.
Gritting his teeth, Batman rolled to his feet and hurled a grenade at Azur.
Azur barely reacted, lifting off into the air. The grenade detonated harmlessly beneath him. Descending like a dark angel, he lashed out with a powerful kick, sending the armored vigilante crashing into a pile of rubble.
Despite the impact, Bruce forced himself upright, drawing a handgun from his belt.
Meanwhile, Clark surged forward, his fist cocked like a cannonball. His punch smashed into Azur's, the shockwave rippling outward and scattering the relentless rain. The collision sent Clark reeling once more, his feet skidding across the fractured ground.
Azur barely flinched. He turned his attention to Bruce, who fired his gun—a single bullet whistled through the rain toward Azur.
Azur tilted his head just slightly, allowing the projectile to skim past his cheek and vanish into the night.
"You'll have to do better than that," he muttered.
Gripping the kryptonite spear tightly, Azur began stalking toward Batman, his intentions clear.
Suddenly, a soft gasp broke through the chaos.
Both Azur and Clark froze.
Clark, battered and embedded in a pile of debris, snapped his head toward the sound. His ears honed in, his superhuman senses recognizing the voice immediately.
"Lois?"
---
Lois had reached the edge of the battlefield, intending to call out to Batman, to tell him the truth about why Clark was fighting. But before she could utter a word, a sharp pain bloomed in her chest.
By the time she realized she'd been shot, she was already falling.
Clark burst from the rubble, his speed returning as adrenaline surged through him. In the blink of an eye, he was by her side, cradling her in his arms.
"Lois! What are you doing here?"
Her lips moved, but no words came. Blood blossomed across her chest like a crimson flower.
Clark's x-ray vision scanned her frantically, and his heart sank. A bullet. Lodged deep, right in her heart.
"No… no, no, no!" His voice cracked with despair. "Stay with me! I'll get you to a hospital!"
"Clark…" Lois struggled to speak, her voice a whisper. "Don't… lose hope…"
Her trembling hand reached for his face but fell limp before it could touch him. Her eyes closed, her head slumping against his chest.
"No!" Clark screamed, his voice shattering the rain-soaked silence. "No!"
A blast of heat vision shot into the sky, tearing through the storm clouds as a howl of agony echoed through the city.
---
Back on the battlefield, Azur tightened his grip on the kryptonite spear, his face unreadable. "Well… this just got complicated."
Before he could act, a sudden blur slammed into him with the force of a freight train. The impact sent him crashing through a wall, skidding across the rubble.
Clark stood above Batman, his hands gripping the Dark Knight's shoulders, pinning him against the ground.
"Why?" Clark roared, his voice a mix of rage and grief. "Why would you do this? She had nothing to do with this fight!"
Bruce coughed, blood staining his lips. He didn't answer.
Clark's eyes blazed with fury. "I should've ended you when I had the chance! Tonight, Batman dies!"
---
Far from the chaos, within the Kryptonian ship, electricity crackled as a pod rose from the liquid chamber. Its surface pulsed and writhed, as if something within was desperate to be free.
Lex Luthor took a step back, spreading his arms wide with a manic grin.
"Come forth, my child. Show them true power."
The pod burst open, and a monstrous hand clawed its way out. Gray and deformed, it ripped the pod apart, revealing a towering, grotesque figure.
It roared, its voice primal and terrifying.
Lex gazed in awe.
"Yes… yes!" he whispered, his voice trembling with excitement.
The creature leaped through the ceiling, leaving a gaping hole in the ship. Thunder rumbled as it vanished into the stormy night.
Lex began to laugh, his voice echoing within the empty chamber.
"Go, my child. Kill the one in the cape. And prepare the way… for the arrival of the great one. He is coming. He is coming!"
