Arcane Ascension: A Fusion of Powers

Chapter 14: Chapter 5: The Journey to Hogwarts

The crisp morning air buzzed with excitement at Platform 9¾ as students and their families bustled about, loading trunks and saying their goodbyes. Aurelius Solen stood quietly near the entrance, observing the scene with a curious glint in his radiant golden eyes. The sight was unlike anything he had experienced in Kamar-Taj. The train itself, with its scarlet exterior and faint puffs of steam, seemed alive with magic.

"Quite fascinating," Aurelius murmured to himself, his cheerful demeanor attracting a few glances from curious passersby.

A tap on his shoulder interrupted his musings. Turning, he saw the familiar face of Severus Snape, his stern expression unchanged.

"Get on with it, Solen. You'll find your way easily enough," Snape said curtly, though there was a hint of something softer in his tone.

Aurelius smiled. "Thank you, Professor. I'll be fine." With a slight bow, he turned and walked towards the train, his steps confident yet unhurried.

Meeting Hermione and Neville

As the Hogwarts Express began to chug forward, Aurelius strolled through the compartments, looking for a seat. Most were already full of chattering students, their laughter and energy filling the train with life. Finally, he found a compartment that had two occupants—a bushy-haired girl buried in a book and a nervous-looking boy clutching a toad.

"Mind if I join you?" Aurelius asked, his voice warm and polite.

The girl looked up, her eyes bright with curiosity. "Not at all. I'm Hermione Granger," she said, scooting over to make room.

"And I'm Neville Longbottom," the boy added, though his voice was barely above a whisper.

"Aurelius Solen," he introduced himself, settling into the seat with a friendly smile. "Pleasure to meet you both."

Neville's toad croaked loudly, making Aurelius chuckle. "Interesting pet you've got there, Neville."

Neville blushed. "This is Trevor. He's a bit of a handful."

As the train sped through the countryside, the three of them began to chat. Hermione was quick to show off her knowledge of Hogwarts and magic, while Neville spoke shyly about his family and their magical heritage. Aurelius listened intently, occasionally asking questions and sharing a few of his own experiences—carefully omitting the details of Kamar-Taj.

When Hermione asked about his magical background, Aurelius simply said, "I've had a unique upbringing, let's just say. But I'm excited to learn more about Hogwarts."

The Boat Ride to Hogwarts

By evening, the train pulled into Hogsmeade Station. The first-years gathered nervously, their breaths visible in the chilly night air. Aurelius followed the crowd, his keen eyes taking in every detail.

"Hurry along, first-years! Over here!" a booming voice called out.

Aurelius turned to see a towering man with a bushy beard waving them over. "Name's Hagrid. I'll be takin' yeh to the castle," the man said, his friendly demeanor putting many of the students at ease.

The first-years were led to a cluster of boats waiting by the lake. Aurelius found himself sharing a boat with Hermione, Neville, and a quiet boy with messy black hair and round glasses.

"Hi Aurelius. Nice to meet you again," the boy said, offering a shy smile.

" Nice to meet you again too, Harry," he replied, shaking his hand warmly.

As the boats glided across the glassy surface of the lake, the first-years were treated to their first glimpse of Hogwarts. The castle stood majestically atop a hill, its many turrets and windows glowing warmly in the night.

"Wow," Hermione breathed, her earlier confidence replaced by awe.

Aurelius leaned slightly forward, his golden eyes reflecting the castle's light. "It's beautiful," he said softly, a rare note of reverence in his cheerful voice.

The Sorting Ceremony

Inside the Great Hall, the first-years gathered in a nervous cluster, their eyes wide as they took in the enchanted ceiling, floating candles, and long house tables. Aurelius, though impressed, remained calm, his cheerful demeanor steady as ever.

Professor McGonagall stepped forward, holding a long scroll and the Sorting Hat. One by one, names were called, and students sat under the hat to be sorted into their houses.

When it was Aurelius's turn, the hall fell silent. His regal posture and glowing presence had already attracted attention. He stepped forward confidently, his charm evident in every step.

As the Sorting Hat was placed on his head, a voice echoed in his mind. **"Well, well, well. What do we have here? Such talent, intelligence, bravery, ambition... you possess qualities of all four houses. How intriguing!"**

Aurelius smiled faintly. "Where would you suggest I belong?"

The hat chuckled. **"Ah, clever and adaptable. You'd thrive anywhere, truly. But... let's see where your journey leads. Gryffindor seems fitting for now."**

"Gryffindor!" the hat announced aloud, and the Gryffindor table erupted into cheers.

As Aurelius took his seat, he glanced at the other first-years. Harry Potter had also been sorted into Gryffindor, and the two exchanged a friendly nod.

The feast began, and Aurelius joined in the merriment, his natural charm endearing him to his new housemates. Yet, even as he laughed and talked, a part of him remained focused, analyzing the magic around him and the path ahead.

Tonight, he was a Gryffindor. But his journey at Hogwarts was only just beginning.
