Applied Immortality

Chapter 118: Rumor

Xiang Qi and Su Junyu were just visiting, leaving once they knew Wang Qi was fine.

Ai Dinglan was a teaching assistant specifically in charge of the medical office. Heavenly Spirit Range was renowned for its medical expertise; while Innate Peak disciples were the very best, its other branches were still a cut above the rest of the sects. With such a background, Immortal Alliance’s covert house arrest would not raise anyone’s suspicions.

Mao Zimiao came the next day for a visit. Hearing the news, Immortal Institute halted classes for the day, for inspection and self-meditation. A large group of Radiant Divinity Pavilion Eminence Stage cultivators came specifically to guide freshmen’s resolve, one even at the Nirvana Realm. The person needed to pass Nirvana tribulation and he’d rise as an Unfettered.

Wang Qi was confident in his resolve, feeling no immediate need to go listen to their lectures. However, Mao Zimiao’s second news made him rethink the gravity of that entropy amplification devil.

“Radiant Divinity Pavilion Eminence procession will remain for three days, to dispel all confusion Immortal Institute disciples might have for Dao.”

Wang Qi didn’t find it very pragmatic. To an outsider, it looked like the Immortal Institute was focusing on steeling disciples’ resolve, when the even already happened. But to him, it was obvious that the Radiant Divinity Pavilion group was sent here for the devil.

Zhen Chanzi was a wily old fox having lived for ages. His take on it: “The devil didn’t look to proficient at hiding. A simple spiritual sense sweep from an Eminence can cover a large ground. Immortal Alliance is looking to search the entire Argent Apex.”

The devil’s existence represented a destruction of the world, in opposition with Immortal Alliance’s coexistence slogan. Immortal Alliance’s radical reaction was only natural.

Mao Zimiao had come to check on Wang Qi, but also get some guidance from Ai Dinglan. Most questions were regarding the resolve the Radiant Divinity Pavilion Eminence cultivators taught.

To Wang Qi’s slight shock, Ai Dinglan had a deep understanding of Radiant Divinity Pavilion’s teachings, giving a simple explanation to each and every one of Mao Zimiao’s questions. Wang Qi’s respect for her grew. Gene Valley and Radiant Divinity Pavilion were both Heavenly Spirit Range’s branches, but different in research. It really was impressive how Ai Dinglan had such deep knowledge of both fields.

Under Ai Dinglan’s advise, Wang Qi consolidated Evolution Chart, and blending Mendel’s genetics insights with his cultivation. Each time he fine tuned Evolution Chart, he was able to maintain the strengths of his previous mental art.

At noon on the third day, Wang Qi and Ai Dinglan received a secret transmission that they were free to leave, but not to mention anything of what really happened.

Wang Qi eased the a breath, feeling uncomfortable having eyes on him at all times.

Free at last, he fled the medical office. Ai Dinglan was in charge of this place and had to stay behind.

Wang Qi made a beeline for his room, to get out of his clothes and rest. The fight ruined all the seals on his only magic clothing and needed a change.

On his way, Wang Qi found himself being the target of odd looks. He pulled on his clothes with suspicion and saw the the gap over his shoulder. “Are open shoulders a rarity here?”

Zhen Chanzi said, “I don’t think it’s that simple. You’re getting somewhat hostile looks from your schoolmates.”

“Hostile?”

Wang Qi was baffled, but didn’t think Zhen Chanzi was someone who could mistake goodwill for hostility. With fresh clothes on, he stepped out and noticed the looks were just as odd and still very much there.

With classes suspended, the morning theory lessons were canceled, replaced with a Radiant Divinity Pavilion Eminence’s sermon at the training grounds. Wang Qi was in no mood for it, bringing Gottingen Collection with for review and sitting at the edge of the training grounds.

At noon, Radiant Divinity Pavilion Eminence finished his preaching and urged the freshmen to have lunch and relax. The disciples entered the mess hall in a clamor. Wang Qi was engrossed in his book and was slower, arriving when the place was packed.

Then the funniest thing happened. He just entered the mess hall and the all the noise grounded to a halt, with the freshmen giving him pointed stares.

“It always feels.. unpleasant.” Wang Qi touched his face, muttering. “It’s the first time I’m getting so much hostility.”

He went for the queue, only for the disciples to make way. Wang Qi stiffly took his meal and walked over to a table on the side.

Everyone who sat there left the minute he sat down.

“Ha-ha, this is awkward.” Wang Qi yanked Wu Fan who ran off as well. Wang Qi sat there because of him. He forced Wu Fan back in his chair. “What’s all this about?”

Wu Fan lowered his head as he ate, ignoring him.

“Yo, since when did a bottom grow a spine?”

Wang Qi was about to say more when Wu Shiqin sat over with her meal. “Don’t be hard on him.”

Wu Shiqin didn’t look to good, haggard and pale. Her eyes, however, shone, dropping him hints.

Wang Qi grumbled, “We’ve gone through life and death together, but not close enough to have a hart-to-heart. I have no clue what you’re doing.”

Wu Shiqin held her forehead and gave a subtle gesture, pointing up.

Zhen Chanzi’s sent. “She’s been told to keep quiet.”

Seeing the big smile he had to indicate that he got it, Wu Shiqin wiped the non-existence sweat on her brow. Using subtle signs to communicate secretive matters of the Immortal Alliance with the whole world staring at them unnerved her.

Wang Qi looked around, at the odd looks he got, with the shy one avoiding his gaze and learning from Wu Fan and focused on eating. Wu Fan gave a wry smile. “Just what is all this?”

Wu Shiqin shrugged, “Rumors.”

Wang Qi asked further with great shock. It turned out that at some point, gossip unlike the official Immortal Alliance explanation spread among freshmen.

Wang Qi killed Yang Jun.

It was just too absurd for the random freshman to believe it was all due to a devil using constant entropy amplification. So they totally ignored the claim that Yang Jun went mad and injured Wang Qi.

Wang Qi’s insta-win against Yang Jun at the martial test was out in the open for all freshmen to see! a

It thus gave this rumor far more credence than the official version.
