Ch39 - Cat Teaser
Chapter 5: Cat Teaser
After being shown to his room, Taichi immediately started thinking of ways to make the inn more prosperous. However, he had no knowledge of inn management whatsoever.
All he could do was convey the wonderfulness of cats—specifically, the Forest Cats—to people.
“Just what are you planning to do? Even if they look cute, Forest Cats are monsters. It’s not so easy for humans to accept them,” Luke sighed, sitting on the bed, his nose twitching. He then yawned widely.
(Are you sleepy…?)
“Don’t worry; I have a special strategy! Our café has been gradually getting more customers, right?”
While it wouldn’t happen overnight, he believed that in the long run, customers—no, fans—would increase.
“To do that, we need this! I’ll create a cat teaser using my [Creation (Physical)] skill!”
As Taichi activated his skill, a cat teaser formed just as he had imagined in his mind.
He figured that most people probably hadn’t interacted with monsters before, so he made a long, wire-type cat teaser. At the end were several feathers and bits of cellophane that made a crinkling sound when moved, designed to pique a cat’s interest.
“Perfect! Just as I imagined!”
His unique skill, [Creation (Physical)], granted by the Cat God, allowed Taichi to materialize anything he envisioned in his mind.
Looking at the finished cat teaser, Luke tilted his head and asked, “What on earth is that?”
(Guess it makes sense that Luke, being a dog-type, isn’t intrigued by a cat teaser?)
He waved the cat teaser in front of Luke, but there was no reaction. How disappointing.
“Well, it’s worth a shot! Let’s go ask Arts if we can play with the Forest Cats!”
When they went down to the first floor of the inn, no one was at the reception.
In the adjacent dining area, three Forest Cats were lounging around. Arts seemed to be preparing dinner in the kitchen.
Guests received breakfast included in their stay, and those who wished could have dinner as well.
Today’s dinner seemed to be stew, and the delightful aroma tickled Taichi and Luke’s noses.
“That smells really good,” Luke commented.
“Can’t wait for dinner,” Taichi added.
As they entered the dining area, one of the Forest Cats let out a “meow.”
“Oh, Taichi! What’s up?” Arts called out, peeking from the kitchen.
Taichi showed him the cat teaser. “Is that… an item to interact with the Forest Cats?”
“Yes, it is! Um, can we try playing with them?”
He glanced over at the Forest Cats.
(Oh my gosh, they’re so cute!!)
Taichi was completely smitten by the bright-eyed Forest Cats.
As soon as Arts gave him the go-ahead, he eagerly began to play with the cat teaser.
The three Forest Cats sat adorably on the floor, each about fifty centimeters long.
He felt a strong urge to cuddle them, but he refrained from startling them with sudden actions.
“Look, it’s a fun toy!” he called, crouching down to show and hide the teaser from the shadows of the table legs. The Forest Cats’ ears perked up in response.
(Oh, this seems promising!)
Feeling a rush of excitement in front of the cats, Taichi couldn’t help but be thrilled.
However, he only knew about the cats in cat cafés and stray cats, so he was unsure how typical pet cats behaved. Of course, since these were tamed monsters, they might be completely different.
As he moved the teaser, it made a satisfying sound.
This was the kind of sound cats were said to love, one that made them become engrossed…
(With my level of cat teaser skills, the cats usually don’t want to play with me!)
Despite his worries, the outcome was surprising.
One Forest Cat leaped toward the moving cat teaser from a low crouch!
“Meow!”
“Whoa!!”
Taichi was overjoyed as the Forest Cat bit onto the teaser in an instant.
(They’re so happy to pounce on my cat teaser! This is amazing!!)
Tears of joy streamed down his face.
Seeing this, Arts showed a look of astonishment.
“Wow, I’ve never seen them play so joyfully before.”
“Really?! This is my first time seeing them get so playful with me…”
Usually, he would receive much more subdued responses, so this was immensely gratifying.
Taichi waved the cat teaser more energetically, encouraging the cats to play with him.
In the cat café, the cats would often ignore him unless he used some finesse, but now, just swinging the teaser around turned him into a superstar.
The remaining two Forest Cats joined in, alternating in jumping excitedly at Taichi’s moving teaser.
This was beyond a success; it was revolutionary.
“Meow!”
“Meow!”
“Meow!”
“Aaaaah, so cute! You’re all so cute!”
If they were enjoying it this much, he needed to prepare even more cat teasers.
(Not only that… I want to make balls, tunnels, and other cat toys too!!)
Taichi’s creative passion and love for cats had been ignited.
