American Tax Officer

Chapter 258: Have you heard of Lolita Island?_3

After opening the car door and getting in, he said, "Go to the Long Beach Industrial Area, Zone XXX."

"Director, what's the rush to go there so early?"

Bucky drove the vehicle, following the address given by David.

"Not sure yet, folks from the CIA called us there."

"CIA?"

Bucky and the others were also confused, but since David was not sure of the purpose, they closed their mouths and decided to see what was going on when they got there.

Twenty minutes later, the four of them drove into the industrial area and, following the signs, arrived at their destination, where they found Jerome waiting at the entrance of the safe house.

After getting out of the car, David immediately asked, "What's the matter, Agent Jerome, calling me over this early?"

"Let's go inside first, Director David," Jerome replied before turning to unlock the door.

Meanwhile, Nisen's hand stealthily reached for his service pistol; he knew that David was now being targeted by Freemasonry, and it was possible that these CIA agents had been ordered to cause trouble.

Fortunately, when the door opened, there was no ambush inside, only Elvis and Brod welcoming them, which allowed Nisen to breathe a sigh of relief. Enjoy new adventures from My Virtual Library Empire

"I'm really sorry to disturb you so early, Director David..."

"Enough, get to the point!"

"Alright, follow me," was the reply.

Leading the way, Elvis took the group into the safe house and to an interrogation room.

Seeing the damp surroundings and a female figure inverted, David and the others could guess what had happened here previously—it looked like the CIA had just conducted water torture.

"Huh?"

After a night of torment, Maggie was disheveled and pale, which made it hard for David and the others to recognize her at first. It was only after a closer observation that they started to pick up on the clues.

"You CIA guys really don't understand the concept of cherishing the fairer sex," David remarked as he set the chair upright and wiped the water from her face with a dry towel that hung on the wall.

Hearing David's words, Elvis and his men's faces changed color. Was he really talking about being gentle with a spy?

Although they thought this, they didn't dare to express their opinions in front of David.

Once the chair was set right, Maggie, who had been dispirited, began to regain some sense of awareness.

Seeing David in front of her, gently wiping her face, what would normally be insignificant gestures of chivalry moved her greatly, given her current hellish circumstances.

"Director David, this is the spy we caught last night, codenamed Canary. She used to be a tax contributor to the National Revenue Service. She asked to see you, and that's why I called you so early this morning," Elvis explained.

Understanding the reason for his presence, David then turned to the barely conscious Maggie and said, "Miss Maggie, I'm here now, speak."

Maggie didn't speak immediately but looked towards Elvis, Jerome, Brod, and the other CIA personnel.

David caught on to her hesitation and turned to the men, asking, "Would it be possible to have a word alone?"

"Of course," they immediately exited the room.

David then turned to Simmons and ordered, "Get some clean clothes and a hot cup of coffee."

Afterward, he turned back to Maggie and asked, "So Miss Maggie, what do you need from me?"

"Director David, please help me, get me out of here," she pleaded.

David did not soften due to her pitiful state. Instead, he said with a cold tone, "You must be well aware that our National Revenue Service has a duty to keep your identity confidential, but now that you've been caught by the CIA, we no longer have any say in the matter."

"Come on, Director David, I've contributed my taxes on time to the National Revenue Service for months; you can't just leave me to die, can you?" she argued.

"It is precisely because I recognize your tax contributions to the National Revenue Service that you have the luxury of a hot coffee and dry clothes in this situation. Otherwise, do you think I would give you a second glance?" he countered.

Maggie was rendered speechless.

After a few minutes of silence, she seemed to make a decision, gesturing to the room and her ears, indicating that there might be surveillance.

David then gave a meaningful look to Nisen and Simmons, who instantly understood and immediately left the room.

A few minutes later, Simmons entered with clean clothes and a hot coffee in hand, which he placed on the table and said, "All set, Director."

After he spoke, he turned and left the room.

"You can change into these first," David said, pushing the clothes towards her before standing up to leave, but Maggie suddenly called out to him, "How can I change with these on?"

Turning around, David realized she was still tied to the chair. He approached and untied the ropes that bound her but hesitated with the handcuffs at the end.

First, he had no key, and second, unfastening these final restraints didn't seem to follow proper procedure. Moreover, he had experienced Maggie's combat skills; what if she decided to attack or escape?

He certainly didn't want to be left holding the bag!

Maggie seemed to understand David's dilemma and suggested, "Perhaps you could help me change?"

After considering it, David agreed to the proposal but warned her not to try any tricks. Only then did he begin to help her.
