Chapter 531: 531. Candidates for High-End Combat Power.
Listening quietly to Bruce Wayne's words, Alex's mind was racing.
Upon further reflection, it seemed that he still knew too little about superhero organizations. In these multiverses, not everyone can just go out and act as a vigilante with their face covered.
For those in power in various countries, these extraordinary, or immensely destructive, powers are the most unstable factors. When heroes emerge, their first instinct is always to capture them and study them.
Especially when it comes to heroes with super soldier levels of combat power, like Captain America, these individuals may have some abilities, but they are still limited in the face of a nation's power. Without support, a lone hero has no real way forward.
The Watchmen have Doctor Manhattan, the Justice League has Superman Clark, the Avengers have Iron Man Tony Stark who deals with the government, as well as the Hulk and Thor. The X-Men have Professor X.
These organizations are able to stand in the public eye and operate independently of national control because they have those high-end combat powers backing them.
If it weren't for these figures, their actions might not be as free. Don't forget, the Avengers have gone through numerous civil wars, disbandments, and reformation.
If it weren't for SHIELD having some influence within the government, those superheroes wouldn't have been able to live so comfortably, even while being wanted.
And now, within the Justice Society of the Flashpoint Universe, there was a noticeable lack of a figure who could take on the heavy responsibilities.
Because Alex had taken Kara Zor-El, the Kryptonian Supergirl, away years ago, this universe had lost a crucial top-tier combatant.
Without Starman, Spectre, Johnny Thunder, or Sandman(Dream), who were all high-end combatants, the Justice Society couldn't possibly intimidate those with ulterior motives, relying only on Doctor Fate, Hawkman, and Green Lantern.
Moreover, these three weren't even stationed at the Justice Society headquarters most of the time. They were constantly off running errands, hard to find. Green Lantern had been even more absurd—after joining the Justice Society, he left Earth and hadn't been heard from since.
While Barry Allen, the Flash, was also a member of the Justice Society, he was still a child—naïve, kind-hearted, and even somewhat foolish. He was fine for assisting, but not for intimidating others. Reverse-Flash was even more imposing than him.
In this environment, although the Justice Society appeared glamorous on the surface, behind the scenes, it was already very dangerous, with a constant risk of being replaced by the Suicide Squad.
If the task force from the relevant department were to be established, Alex speculated that the next step for those higher-ups would be to eliminate the old members of the Justice Society and replace them with their own puppets.
At that point, gradually replacing the members of the Justice Society and forming a so-called "Dark Justice Society" wouldn't be impossible.
"Last century, many people were eyeing those relics. Alfred and I spent half our lives protecting them, blocking all those who coveted those treasures. But now, times have changed," Bruce Wayne sighed quietly, unsure if he was reminiscing about the good old days or mourning his departed old friends.
Alex understood exactly what Bruce Wayne meant by relics. Much like the black umbrella behind him, those weapons and equipment left behind by Gotham's supervillains could be deadly if used properly.
"I understand what you mean. As for the candidate to carry the banner, I have a few unrefined ideas. If we can bring them to our side, perhaps it will alleviate some of the pressure," Alex said.
"'A few' unrefined ideas?" Bruce Wayne raised an eyebrow.
He had originally hoped to bring Kara back, as the Kryptonian invasion had left a lasting impression on him. General Zod's terrifying pressure was still a nightmare for Earth's inhabitants.
Since the formation of the Justice Society, Bruce Wayne had increasingly recognized Kara's importance. If he could get the last Kryptonian on his side, everything else would become trivial.
But from what Alex was saying, it seemed they didn't need Kara. There were other combatants on this planet whose power rivaled that of Kryptonians.
Suddenly realizing something, Bruce Wayne couldn't help but ask, "You're not referring to that guy who just appeared in Kahndaq, are you?"
"Teth-Adam, who wields the power of the six ancient Egyptian gods," Alex casually shared the information about Black Adam. "And in my memory, Black Adam and Shazam were also members of the Justice Society."
"Shazam?" Bruce Wayne shifted his sitting position.
"Yes, it is the same as the power granted by the wizard. 'Shazam' is a spell. By reciting Shazam, one can obtain the power of the gods. That Shazam is a warrior who has obtained the power of the gods just like Teth-Adam."
Alex placed Batman's figurine back where it belonged, then continued.
"Since this universe has both Teth-Adam and the Council of Wizards, it's highly likely that a new Shazam will emerge. Either one of these two has the combat power to match Kara's, and that would be more than enough to support the Justice Society."
Although there were no records in Alex's mind of Black Adam or Shazam defeating Superman Clark, these two were indeed among the very few who could make Superman hold back his power and fight at full strength.
With Black Adam now emerging, Billy should be close to obtaining the power of Shazam.
Listening to Alex, Bruce Wayne nodded. "That might work, but Teth-Adam is from Kahndaq. It's highly likely that he won't be a permanent member of the Justice Society, so we'll have to place our hopes on Shazam."
"Ahem, if I'm not mistaken, this Shazam is still an underage child." Alex coughed and added, "You might not understand the wizard's selection mechanism, but they only grant Shazam's power to children."
"You mean, you want me to entrust the future of the Justice Society to some kid who doesn't know anything?" Bruce Wayne said, somewhat speechless.
"He transforms into an adult when he says 'Shazam'. Uh, what I mean is, you could educate him. I see that Tim could use a companion, so adding a Robin wouldn't hurt, right?"
Alex envisioned Billy, dressed as Robin, fighting Gotham's enemies, and when things seemed dire, shouting "Shazam" and transforming into an invincible godlike warrior. That image was almost too beautiful to imagine.
He believed the expressions on the faces of the supervillains would be priceless.
But the last time a certain boy was trained by Batman as Robin, Billy... well, never mind, it wasn't important.
Changing the subject, Alex continued.
"This is just one option. After all, a superhero you personally train would give you more confidence, right?"
"But training takes a lot of time. Right now, what we lack most is time. Besides, I don't know much about Teth-Adam, and considering he holds such terrifying combat power, how can I control him?" Bruce Wayne frowned.
"That's simple. Kahndaq has a special metal called Eternium, which is of the same origin as the power that grants Black Adam his Shazam-like abilities. Using this metal, you can easily harm both Black Adam and Shazam."
Alex smiled. "You can think of it as Shazam's version of Kryptonite."
Hearing this, Bruce Wayne nodded slightly. He wasn't worried about whether Teth-Adam would join the Justice Society. Even without Alex, he was confident he could convince him.
But without a way to balance Teth-Adam's power, the mighty force at his disposal would become a potential uncontrollable factor, rather than an asset.
Now that Alex had revealed Teth-Adam's weakness, Bruce Wayne felt relieved.
"I know what you're worried about. Don't worry, once this situation is over, I'll find a way to secure Eternium, along with the pieces in the hands of international allies." Alex said.
"Mmm, this one weakness can't be exposed, or it would severely diminish its deterrent effect. Even if we can't keep it hidden, we should buy some time." Bruce Wayne added.
"But Teth-Adam's personality might be a problem for public acceptance."
Unlike Superman Clark, the cheerful and kind-hearted "sunshine" hero, Black Adam was a cold-faced killing machine. While he could intimidate the higher-ups, getting the public to accept him would be another challenge.
Thinking about this, Alex continued, "So, aside from these two, I have another candidate, but I'm not sure if she exists in this universe."
"She?"
"The development of parallel universes is diverse, and not every universe is exactly the same as the one I remember. You should've realized this when the Flash came to find you, especially since you and the Batman from his universe are quite different."
"I know, but I want to know who you're referring to."
"On Earth, there is a hidden place called Paradise Island, a mystical island difficult for ordinary people to reach. The island is inhabited by Amazonian warriors, and among them is the mightiest, known as Wonder Woman."
In the Justice Society, aside from Black Adam and Shazam, Wonder Woman also represented a high-end combatant, but she was not the well-known Diana; it was Hippolyta, the queen of Paradise Island.
In the comics, Hippolyta travels through time to join the Justice Society's timeline, taking on the mantle of Wonder Woman before eventually leaving this timeline.
However, in the Flashpoint Universe, things might be very different from what Alex knew. After all, in this universe, the Justice League's heroes came first, and the Justice Society came later.
Still, since this universe already has Black Adam, the Wizard's Council, and the Egyptian gods, it was highly probable that the Amazonian warriors under Zeus, including Hippolyta, also existed here.
Though Alex wasn't sure why Diana didn't go through WWI with her first love, he was confident he could locate Paradise Island.
At that point, finding a Wonder Woman to assist the Justice Society wouldn't be out of the question.
