Chapter 1129: 385. Someone wants to pick peaches

Donnie straightforwardly said to Rhode Granger.

The smile on Rhode Granger's face disappeared, but his composure did not waver, "Boss, he has no reason to refuse your cooperation, right?"

Donnie smiled and nodded, "Yeah, he has no reason to refuse my cooperation, but now he indeed has refused, so this matter has become much more interesting!"

Though Donnie's influence isn't such that he can get any position he wants, the speed and manner of John Sargent's refusal were too hasty, which is suspicious!

So is it that Tony Sherman and John Sargent have a closer interest relationship, or is it something else?

Donnie asked Rhode Granger, "What was Tony Sherman's performance like before he joined your FBI?"

Rhode Granger pondered for a moment, then said, "Earlier, Tony was in charge of the operations in several western states, but after being transferred back to headquarters, he was very low-key and didn't have any noticeable achievements!"

Donnie nodded and said, "So this person is hiding very well!"

Donnie doesn't believe a low-key person could be chosen so quickly by John Sargent as Edgar Hoover's successor.

"It seems they want to use us as their stepping stone!" Donnie analyzed simultaneously.

No matter how influential Donnie is, he is ultimately just a businessman. If he excessively interferes in the appointments of U.S. officials, it wouldn't be showcasing his influence; it would be challenging the authority of the current officials in the United States.

This would make these people think Donnie is too overbearing.

If such an image forms, it would be difficult for them to cooperate seamlessly with Donnie.

So now Donnie understands that Tony Sherman becoming the FBI Director is an inevitability.

"Did Edgar Hoover hand over all his connections to you?" Donnie asked.

Rhode Granger nodded, "He has handed everything over to me!"

Donnie took out the 500,000 US Dollars he originally intended to give to John Sargent and added another 500,000 US Dollars, totaling 1 million US Dollars.

"Take this money, and with this sum along with the connections Edgar Hoover handed over to you, you can buy off most people at the FBI headquarters. They think that by obtaining the position of FBI Director, they can control the FBI, so let's show them how naive their thoughts are.

Undermine Director Tony Sherman for me!"

Donnie could not possibly hand over the FBI, this power institution. If he can't legitimately control it, then he'll play some tricks and undermine this director who wants to reap the fruits!

Rhode Granger nodded, "I understand, but there might be something that needs you, boss, to personally handle in the future!"

Donnie asked, "What is it?"

Rhode Granger said, "To undermine Tony Sherman, we must gain the support of those Deputy Directors. My influence isn't enough to make them side with me, so I might need your presence, boss!"

Donnie smiled and nodded, "No problem, I can host a small ball at Block Manor, and you can invite those key figures in the FBI then!"

Rhode Granger smiled, "If that's the case, then I have no problem!"

While the two were talking, Randolph Roman entered Donnie's office.

"Boss, we've got news from Boston, those people were found, but they are already dead!"

Previously, Donnie learned from Alan Wicks about the movements of Yasen Liki and others in Boston, so he immediately ordered the United States Logistics Boston branch's special team to investigate.

But they ended up empty-handed.

Those people were no longer at that location.

So Donnie had the special team cooperate with the Boston Police Department to investigate these people.

To their surprise, they found only a few bodies!

"Boss, it's apparent our opponents already know what we know; they somehow always manage to solve all problems just a step ahead of us!" Rhode Granger pondered.

Donnie asked, "What impact will Yasen Liki and the others' deaths have?"

Rhode Granger said, "Dead men tell no tales. The investigation reached this point, and all evidence points to Edgar Hoover, as if they're cementing this matter!"

Donnie nodded and said, "The more they want us to think this way, the less we should think this way. Now our only remaining evidence is John Garner, and we must not let this thread break!"

Rhode Granger nodded, "I understand, I will search the FBI for all materials regarding John Garner!"

Donnie satisfactorily said, "Very good, but we must also appear as if we're closing this case, at least on the surface, to reduce the FBI's investigation of this matter!"

From now on, the investigation of his ambush will shift from the open to the shadows.

Only by making the opposition lower their guard can they investigate this matter better.

"I understand. After returning, I'll release those people!" Rhode Granger stated solemnly.

After Rhode Granger left, Donnie reviewed the matter in his mind, trying to anticipate all actions and cover things up ahead of time.

Though the opposition hides deeply, they've actually exposed some things.

For example, those capable of this must be a small, highly influential group in the world; ordinary people simply don't have such capability.

In fact, with this point, many things become easier to investigate!

Now it just depends on whether John Garner will provide any surprises!
