chapter 56 - The Second World (18)
Chen Xi only understands matters between men and women, not male-to-male. Plus, he hadn’t thought in an inappropriate direction at all; he just thought that Ye Kos was provoking him.
A strong feeling of irritation rose uncontrollably from his heart.
Chen Xi subtly raised his eyes and glanced at the little yellow chick above him.
He vaguely sensed that the connection between him and the Sun God seemed to be mutual. Whenever the Sun God had a greater emotional fluctuation, he could also feel it.
Chen Xi wasn’t too surprised. After all, if Lily could hear plush toys talk, this wasn’t such a strange thing.
He felt this was a telepathic bond between gods and their believers.
Chen Xi’s focus was entirely on thinking about why the Sun God was angry.
The black-haired boy across from him felt ignored, and his expression gradually became cold.
He grabbed Chen Xi’s collar. “I’ll say it again: sleep with me tonight.”
With the Earth God gone, Chen Xi had originally planned to refuse.
But after the little chick’s foot stamped twice on his head, he obediently lowered his head. “Alright, I’ll come to find you tonight on time.”
Ye Kos was very satisfied with his obedient, timid response. After telling him his dorm number, he turned around and went back to his small team.
Before leaving, he shot an angry glare at Apple Jam. “You too, did you hear?”
The little girl thought she was the one causing trouble for Chen Xi and felt so guilty she almost cried.
“I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. Don’t be scared. If we’re in danger tonight, I’ll have the fairy godmother hide us all.”
Her vines poked out from her body, twisting into an “okay” gesture.
Compared to the 12-person dorm they had stayed in before, this four-person dorm was simply luxurious.
Upper bed, lower desk, each person with a large wardrobe. The room had an independent bathroom, and it not only had a shower, but also a big bathtub.
Through the glass door, they could see a wide balcony outside, with a row of clothes racks.
The most important thing was that, after years of mixed-gender dorms, they finally had bed curtains for personal privacy.
Seeing the bright and spacious dorm, the kids were all excited.
Even the most composed little villain had a faint blush on his cheeks.
He quickly climbed to the bed near the window on the left, reached out to touch the clean, tidy sheets and duvet, and the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but lift.
Lily was rolling around on the next bed. “The curtain of this bed is pink. I want this bed!”
Apple Jam picked a bed with pale yellow curtains and began rummaging around. She hummed in confusion.
“This bed has wallpaper with little daisies, and there are small words near the pillow.”
Chen Xi pulled open the black bed curtain and poked his head out. “What does it say?”
“Hmm... ‘My gun god is the best god, and with its help, I will survive the orphanage and return to my mother.’”
“Anything else? Lily, did you find anything on your side?”
“Yes, there’s something hidden under the mattress. But what is it? I’ve never seen it before.”
Chen Xi extended his hand, and Lily climbed to the edge of the bed, handing it over to him.
Looking at the white square object wrapped in plastic, Chen Xi fell into deep thought.
Lily mumbled that there was another item that looked even stranger.
Chen Xi took a look at it; it was a slender cotton swab inside a tube.
He couldn’t understand what it was, so he turned to ask Yu Tong.
The little yellow chick looked up and said, “It’s a sanitary pad and tampon, used by girls during their period.”
Chen Xi nodded seriously.
He returned the items to Lily, telling her to keep them well for later use.
In addition to the small pack of sanitary products, Apple Jam found a small makeup bag from the remaining bed.
Inside were lipstick, eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow, a small mirror, and a hand-drawn card.
The card had four cartoon girls, each with distinct characteristics.
The girl on the left with twin ponytails held two guns in her hands and had hand grenades hanging at her waist.
The short girl wearing black-framed glasses held a small three-headed dog in her arms.
The delicate girl with lipstick and eyeshadow, wearing a beret, had a huge butterfly fairy hovering behind her.
The tomboy with a buzzcut was much taller than ✪ Nоvеlіgһt ✪ (Official version) the other girls. She carried a sketchpad and kept her gaze on the beret girl, her eyes full of hearts.
Yu Tong stood on Chen Xi’s arm, looking at the card with him.
The four girls on the card should have been the original owners of the dorm. Each of them had their own god.
The children who had lived in the orphanage for a long time didn’t understand what early love was, and they didn’t know the difference between heterosexual and homosexual love.
They only knew that when you felt your heart stir, it was love, and those who liked each other should be together.
This card was clearly drawn by the beret girl.
In her drawing, she and the buzzcut girl were holding hands, as close as intimate partners.
Chen Xi turned the card over, and there was a neatly written message in small, beautiful handwriting.
“Nana, Alice, Ann, and Elle are the best friends in the world. We will leave the orphanage together and taste all the delicious foods in the world. Elle and I will have a grand wedding, and we will become the happiest wives.”
Yu Tong couldn’t help but sigh deeply.
Chen Xi tightened his grip on the card, his hands shaking uncontrollably.
He knew why the Sun God sighed.
Although the nun hadn’t said it directly, her hints were very clear.
From now on, this group of children would move from their original dorm to these four-person dorms.
It was like training dogs.
Improving the dorm environment to make the children, who had gods, feel more noble than other children.
Arranging the dorms to look more like small families, increasing their sense of belonging to the orphanage.
The 12-person dorm was upgraded to a 4-person dorm, with bed curtains and independent bathrooms. The children’s interactions would be reduced, making it harder for them to form groups and secretly plot rebellion.
The children moving into the dorm meant that all the children who had previously lived in the four-person dorm had died.
The four girls who wanted to taste the world’s food never got to fulfill their wish.
Lily and Apple Jam hadn’t realized this yet.
They were discussing whether anyone had lived in this dorm and whether they could move others' things.
Chen Xi kept fiddling with the card in his hand and pulled the bed curtain closed.
When a rabbit dies, the fox grieves—perhaps this is also their fate.
Chen Xi took a deep breath, feeling a little downcast.
The little yellow chick hopped into his arms, squinting its eyes and smiling at him. “Are you scared?”
“Don’t be sad. We won’t be in danger. I’m the Sun God. Look at my name. It’s awesome. I’m definitely the main character. We won’t die easily.”
Chen Xi froze for a moment, then smiled shyly, biting his lip.
He lifted Yu Tong up and planted a sincere kiss on his little chicken head.
Looking at his actions, Yu Tong suddenly remembered something.
“Chen Xi, I think I’ve awakened a racial skill. Try rubbing my little chicken head a few times. Stay away though, don’t let my mouth face you.”
Although the little villain was cunning, he adored his little yellow chick so much that he had become blindly obedient.
He didn’t even ask, and without hesitation, rubbed the chicken head twice.
Yu Tong felt his internal temperature rising uncontrollably.
He tried to open his mouth, and a small flame shot out, almost setting the nearby bed curtain on fire.
Chen Xi’s eyes immediately lit up. He rubbed Yu Tong’s feathers and hesitated, asking, “Sun God, can you die and come back to life?”
Yu Tong was stunned. “No, I can only play dead.”
“Play dead? What does that mean?”
“I’m not sure. I guess I just pretend to be a dead chicken perfectly. No heartbeat, no breathing—no one can tell anything is wrong. Why are you suddenly asking this? Did you figure something out?”
Chen Xi’s cheeks turned red from excitement.
He leaned close to Yu Tong’s ear and whispered, “You’re a bird, with golden feathers all over. You can naturally speak human language. After receiving the power of belief, you radiate a golden halo. You can spit fire, lose all signs of life, and come back to life.”
“The only creature in this world with these characteristics is the legendary immortal bird, also known as the Sunbird. Because it can rise from the flames, it is called the divine bird that walks out of the sun.”
Yu Tong fell silent for a moment. “You mean, I’m the immortal bird.”
“Sunbird sounds better.”
“No, no, no, that’s not the point.”
Although he had suspected that his race wasn’t ordinary, Yu Tong hadn’t imagined it would be this powerful.
The system, having a smug moment, spoke in the background. “Aha, isn’t this a win for me? First, I make you an immortal bird, how amazing is that?!”
“Damn, with such a smart and cunning believer, a legendary god. How could we lose with this setup!”
Yu Tong didn’t respond to the system.
He looked at the excited Chen Xi, suddenly realizing how lucky he was.
